Irisviel's arrival brought a sense of relief to Rin. However, compared to her, another person on the scene was even more moved by Irisviel's appearance.
"Irisviel..."
Irisviel's mother, Aoi, looked at her daughter with gentle eyes, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face. What she saw wasn't the young Illya she remembered, but a version of her daughter ten years into the future. Although Illya still looked like a child even after ten years, as a mother, Aoi could sense the subtle differences in her daughter.
Seeing Illya, Aoi felt both joy and sorrow. Joy because seeing her daughter grown meant that Illya had survived the next ten years. Sorrow because Illya's presence here meant that she had participated in the Holy Grail War in the future.
Even though Aoi had already learned from Rin that her daughter would survive, she couldn't help but worry. In this altered world, could Illya still survive?
[If Illya stays by that man named Akira's side, she will definitely survive.] This thought suddenly crossed Aoi's mind.
[And...]
[If I were to follow him as well, he could save me from the fate of the Holy Grail, just like he saved Illya.]
[No... no! How could I think such a thing!]
Aoi shook her head vigorously, trying to rid herself of such selfish thoughts. However, unbeknownst to her, a subtle change had already taken root in her mind. A thought she had never considered before was now sprouting within her.
If Kiritsugu's pursuit of the Holy Grail was a mistake, then resisting the fate of the Holy Grail didn't seem so wrong after all.
"Mom!!"
While Aoi was lost in thought, Illya rushed into her arms. For Illya, it had been ten years since she last saw her mother.
"Illya!" Aoi stroked Illya's long white hair, looking at her daughter's face, which now resembled her own, and smiled warmly.
Thus, the battlefield of the Holy Grail War had turned into a heartwarming family reunion.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Kiritsugu was on the move.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The bombs he had planted earlier exploded, completely destroying the building where Kayneth was staying. Both sides had their intelligence. Kayneth knew that Kiritsugu had planted explosives in his hotel, and Kiritsugu knew that Kayneth had his Mercury Magecraft, which would allow him to survive the explosion.
So, before Kayneth could react and escape the building, Kiritsugu detonated the bombs early.
"Even though the Holy Grail has been corrupted, my goal of winning the Holy Grail War remains unchanged!" Kiritsugu muttered with determination. "I must destroy the Holy Grail and prevent the corrupted Grail from being born!"
This was his atonement.
From Rin, who had come from the future, Kiritsugu had learned how to minimize the damage. By relocating the Grail to a less populated area and then destroying it, he could prevent the catastrophe. He even knew how he would design the Greater Grail in the future. Unfortunately, he hadn't lived to see the day when the Grail was truly dismantled.
But that didn't matter. He would make sure it happened this time.
"There he is!"
Seeing his target finally appear, Kiritsugu steadied his breathing, aimed his sniper rifle, and prepared to fire.
At the explosion site, just as Kiritsugu had predicted, a spherical shield of mercury protected Kayneth. This was his Mercury Magecraft. Like in the original timeline, Kayneth's other magecraft tools had been destroyed, leaving only this one.
However, due to the suddenness of the attack, Kayneth had only managed to save himself. He hadn't been able to protect his fiancée, Sola-Ui.
"Sola! Sola, are you okay?!" Kayneth cried out, tears streaming down his face as he looked at his unconscious fiancée.
Even though he knew Sola had betrayed him, he didn't blame her. It was all the fault of that dishonorable knight, Diarmuid, who had seduced her with his cursed beauty mark!
Yes, it was Diarmuid's fault! His cursed mark and his obsession with chivalry had doomed him and everyone around him!
At this moment, Diarmuid, who had just been summoned back by a Command Seal, had no idea what Kayneth was thinking.
"My lord, we must retreat immediately! The enemy could attack at any moment!" Diarmuid said, gripping his spear and scanning the surroundings vigilantly.
"Shut up, you servant who seduced his master's fiancée!" Kayneth shouted angrily. "You, who only cares about your knightly honor and not the honor of serving your master!"
"You said you would fight even if your power was weak, but look at the result of your fighting!"
Because Diarmuid had temporarily left to participate in the battle at the river, he hadn't been able to protect Kayneth when the attack came. Kayneth had only managed to save himself.
"My lord, I fought with your permission, for your sake and for the Command Seals and the Holy Grail," Diarmuid explained, his expression strained. He had gone to battle with Kayneth's approval.
"Shut up! Is this the result of your fighting for me?!" Kayneth pointed at the ruins and his unconscious fiancée, his heart filled with pain.
"Sola..." Kayneth dispersed the mercury shield and rushed toward Sola. No matter what, he had to try to save her! He believed that without Diarmuid's cursed mark influencing her, Sola would still love him!
"My lord! Don't disperse the mercury shield! The enemy could be aiming at us right now!" Diarmuid urgently warned.
"Shut up! How could a mere bullet outpace your reflexes?" Kayneth sneered. He remembered that Kiritsugu's magecraft tool was a gun, a weapon Diarmuid could easily intercept mid-air.
Diarmuid had no choice but to stay close to Kayneth, ready to react at any moment.
On top of a nearby building, Kiritsugu felt a sense of satisfaction.
"Kayneth... it's time for you to exit the stage."
"Maiya, let's do it together."
"Understood," Maiya's cold voice replied.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two gunshots rang out almost simultaneously.
"My lord! Watch out!" Diarmuid reacted instantly, intercepting one of the bullets with his spear.
"Clang!"
The red spear successfully deflected one bullet.
However...
"Thud!"
The second bullet struck Kayneth in the chest. Blood sprayed as the mercury shield expanded and contracted violently before collapsing.
"My lord!!" Diarmuid's eyes widened in horror.
Two bullets! He had been careless! Both he and Kayneth had been careless!
"Lancer... take me away..." Kayneth weakly muttered. He had wanted to say, "Take me and Sola away," but in his critical condition, he could only manage to say that much.
"Understood, my lord!" Diarmuid quickly hoisted Kayneth onto his back.
However, just as he did so, a voice filled with mockery and amusement came from outside the ruins.
"How tragic. So very tragic."
"I never thought that even in this altered world, Kayneth would still meet such a fate."
"Who's there?!" Diarmuid turned sharply toward the source of the voice. He was shocked that someone had gotten so close without him noticing.
Standing there was a man who seemed to be the center of the world itself. Whether it was his aura or his presence, Diarmuid had never encountered anyone like him before.
"You can call me Akira," the man said with a smile.
Thanks to Medea's ancient blood magic, Akira had almost fully recovered from his injuries. The regenerative power of his Leviathan bloodline was truly formidable.
Akira had just returned from Seekvaira's sealed space, intending to have a chat with Saber and Irisviel. Then, he heard the explosion in the distance.
After understanding the situation, he arrived just in time to see Kayneth being shot.
Seeing this, Akira couldn't help but feel that Kayneth was truly unfortunate.
"You... you're that man! What are you doing here?!" Diarmuid recognized Akira. Earlier, he had been on his way to the river to join the battle, but before he could even participate, Akira had dragged the sea demon away, and Diarmuid had been summoned back by Kayneth.
"What am I doing here? I'm here to save people and fulfill your wish," Akira said with a smirk, casually tossing a small fireball toward the distance.
"Boom!"
The fireball struck Kiritsugu's sniper rifle, melting it into a pool of molten metal.
"Alright, Kiritsugu's been dealt with. Now, let's talk about our business," Akira said, walking toward Diarmuid with a sword in hand.
The sword was named the Holy-Demonic Dragon Sword. Despite its somewhat edgy name, its power was undeniable. In terms of pure destructive power, it even surpassed the divided Excalibur of the DxD world!
Seeing Akira approach with his sword, Diarmuid quickly raised his spear.
"You want to fight me? Why? You're not a participant in the Holy Grail War, are you?"
"That's right. I'm neither a Master nor a Servant. But like you, I seek the Holy Grail."
"I see. Then we have a reason to fight," Diarmuid said, steeling himself and preparing to escape with his Master.
However, before he could move, a green circular space began to spread around Akira.
Diarmuid didn't react in time.
"Damn it!" Diarmuid leaped into the air, escaping the range of the green circle.
"My lord! That's a healing space!" Diarmuid shouted.
Kayneth, who had been carried out of the healing circle, suddenly felt much better. His wounds were healing rapidly.
"Take me back inside!" Kayneth ordered.
Diarmuid hesitated for a moment before cautiously stepping back into the green healing space.
Akira's healing ability came from Asia. Now that Asia had unlocked her Balance Breaker, her healing capabilities had reached new heights. Not only could she fire healing arrows, but she could also create healing fields. However, the healing field's effect was much weaker compared to her arrows. If Asia were to heal someone with a fatal injury, it would only take her a few seconds to fully restore them.
Akira had only healed Kayneth to make him talk. If Kayneth were on the verge of death, he wouldn't be able to say much.
As Kayneth's wounds began to heal, he felt a sense of relief. However, just as he was halfway recovered, the healing effect suddenly stopped.
"What's going on?" Kayneth looked around and saw Akira retracting the healing field.
It seemed Akira didn't intend to fully heal him. Understanding this, Kayneth didn't complain. After all, he was still alive, and that was what mattered.
