Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Ren Sensei

Chapter 35: Ren Sensei

Ren thought to himself, Not yet. Although the temperature is higher, it's still far from the original Breath of the Sun.

The Flame Breathing he had developed only improved in temperature and smoothness, but it wasn't as seamless or natural as the Sun Breathing technique.

The Breath still lacked a certain sense of simplicity.

Ren stopped his movements and returned the Nichirin Sword to Kyojuro.

He asked with concern, "How about you, Brother Rengoku? Have you figured it out? If not, I can demonstrate it again."

Senjuro stared at Ren blankly, utterly dumbfounded.

He had been jealous of Ren before, but those words felt like a slap to the face.

It stung.

Kyojuro took the Nichirin Sword and, looking at the still-warm blade, couldn't help but sigh.

"Ren, you're a monster," he said, exasperated.

"I've memorized your movements, but this breathing method..."

Kyojuro, usually so confident and outspoken, now hesitated. His expression was uncharacteristically nervous.

"Could you teach me this breathing method?" he asked, almost timidly. "Don't worry—I won't ask you to demonstrate again!"

Kyojuro's bell-like eyes stared intently at Ren, nervous about his answer.

But Ren just smiled and said, "What are you talking about, Brother Rengoku?"

Hearing this, Kyojuro felt a pang of disappointment. Of course. Why would Ren share such a precious technique?

Just as disappointment set in, Ren patted Kyojuro on the shoulder.

"This Fire Breathing technique is derived from Flame Breathing. Of course, you have the right to learn it."

Kyojuro's vitality instantly returned at those words.

Wasting no time, the two began discussing the techniques behind Fire Breathing.

Kyojuro listened carefully, his expression alternating between deep thought and sudden realization. From time to time, he asked Ren targeted questions.

The scene was almost surreal.

If the other Hashira had seen this, they would have been stunned.

It was supposed to be Kyojuro training Ren, yet here Ren was, teaching the Flame Hashira like a seasoned master.

Watching his elder brother seek advice from Ren, Senjuro felt ashamed.

If my brother becomes Ren's student, what does that make me? he wondered. His junior?

No! I need to learn this too!

What if he learned it before his brother? Then wouldn't Kyojuro become his junior?

And so, Senjuro eagerly joined in.

The dignity of the Rengoku family was cast aside as both brothers absorbed Ren's teachings.

An hour passed, and as it grew late, Ren decided to wrap up for the day.

Seeing the disappointed expressions on the brothers' faces, he felt a twinge of guilt.

But Ren had underestimated their enthusiasm—and his own skill.

He had thought a brief explanation would suffice, but the brothers' endless questions dragged things out.

If there were cameras in this era, Ren mused, I'm sure they'd record everything I said and replay it endlessly.

Kyojuro made significant progress thanks to his Flame Breathing foundation, grasping roughly one-tenth of the Fire Breathing's intricacies after Ren's explanations.

Senjuro, however, didn't fare as well. He barely understood anything, despite his earnest efforts.

Seeing their slow progress, Kyojuro suggested seeking more guidance from Ren at the Butterfly Mansion the next day.

When they said their goodbyes, Ren handed Kyojuro's Nichirin Sword back to him.

As Kyojuro examined it, Senjuro suddenly exclaimed, "Huh? Brother, your sword looks different!"

Kyojuro glanced down and noticed that the green blade now had a faint black tint.

Ren explained casually, "Oh, don't worry. When I used your sword earlier, I polished the blade with my flames. It should now be more compatible with your breathing technique, Brother Rengoku. If you're lucky, you might even activate the Red Blade."

Realizing what he had said, Ren immediately regretted it.

As expected, Kyojuro froze in place, processing his words.

Polished it? Is Ren also a blacksmith? And what's a Red Blade?!

Before Kyojuro could bombard him with more questions, Ren was already retreating, holding Kanoe's hand as they disappeared into the night.

Kyojuro stood dumbfounded, only snapping out of it when he noticed Ren had vanished.

"Ren! Wait!" he shouted, preparing to give chase.

Before he could transform into the Flame Hashira and sprint after Ren, Senjuro grabbed his sleeve.

"Brother, wait!" Senjuro exclaimed, holding Kyojuro back with all his strength.

"What is it, Senjuro? Don't you want to learn Fire Breathing?"

"Think about it, Brother!" Senjuro said. "Ren must be exhausted! Don't forget—he's supposed to spar with the Wind Hashira in two days!"

Hearing this, Kyojuro finally paused.

"Hahaha! You're right! What was I thinking?" He scratched his head sheepishly. "I'll go see him at the Butterfly Mansion tomorrow."

Senjuro nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Ren, already far away, had no idea that Kyojuro was plotting another round of training.

The Rengoku brothers stayed behind, watching Ren disappear into the distance.

At that moment, Senjuro tugged at Kyojuro's sleeve.

"Brother," he asked eagerly, "what do you think of Ren?"
