I’m the God and This World Is Doomed

Chapter 15: [14] Books Are Dangerous?

It was the third day of the survival exam, and the forest was as calm as ever. The morning sun had just begun to break through the trees, casting a warm golden glow over the clearing where Edward, Sienna, and Serian had camped.

Sienna stretched and yawned, wiping sleep from her eyes as she noticed Edward already packing up their supplies.

"Hey, we should catch some fish today," Sienna said, eyeing the nearby stream. "Or maybe some game? I'm getting tired of just eating fruit."

Edward nodded, looking over at the stream. "Yeah, sounds good. We should get a move on."

But before either of them could get up, they froze.

A few rabbits hopped by, each one holding a small bundle of berries in their mouths. They weren't the only ones. A deer walked past, carrying fresh greens in its mouth, and even a couple of squirrels scurried over, dropping tiny apples at Serian's feet.

Serian, still sitting lazily on the branch of a tree, looked up sleepily. His long silver hair was messy from sleep, and his violet eyes were half-lidded with drowsiness. Yet, the animals continued to bring him food, their little gifts piling up in front of him.

Sienna blinked. "What the—"

Edward let out a sigh, used to this by now. "Yep, they do that every morning."

Sienna's mouth fell open as she stared at the scene before her. "How is he… how does he do that?" she whispered, completely stunned.

She couldn't help but notice something else. Serian, despite his drowsy expression, had an otherworldly beauty that made her pause. His silver hair, soft and shiny, seemed to glow in the morning light. His lips, soft and gentle, were perfectly shaped, and his violet eyes shimmered even in his sleepy state.

She could hardly believe it—he was more beautiful than any woman she had ever seen!

"Seriously, why is he prettier than me?" she muttered, unable to tear her eyes away from him.

Edward glanced at her and gave a tired shake of his head. "You'll get used to it."

Sienna's jaw dropped. "Get used to it? How can you get used to something like that?!"

Edward didn't respond at first. He simply patted her on the back, giving her a knowing look. "Trust me. I thought the same thing when I first met him."

Sienna couldn't take her eyes off Serian. He was still barely awake, but as if instinctively, the little animals continued to shower him with food. One by one, the deer, the rabbits, and the squirrels all came over and placed their offerings in front of him.

Serian, still half asleep, nodded at the animals in thanks, his voice barely audible. "Thank you."

He lazily reached for the fruits, biting into an apple. The juice ran down his chin as he savored the sweet taste. The fish, which had swum up to the edge of the water, looked at him curiously.

Serian stared at them for a moment, then at the apples and berries before him. There was a flicker of thought, a brief moment where he considered the fish. The human part of him whispered that fish meant meat, but he didn't care much. The fruits were far sweeter.

He glanced at the fish again, but then sighed softly, his attention drawn back to the fruit. He popped another apple into his mouth.

Sienna, still watching him in disbelief, whispered to Edward, "I don't get it. How does he do that? Why do they just… give him food like that?"

Edward shrugged, sitting down beside the fire and shaking his head. "No clue. Maybe it's because of... whatever it is he's doing. Some people just have that effect on the world around them."

Sienna couldn't tear her eyes away from Serian, who was still surrounded by the little animals. They were all quietly observing him, as though waiting for his next move. The squirrels hopped onto his lap and chattered happily, while the deer stood nearby, watching him in silent reverence.

Serian glanced down at the animals, his expression still calm and serene. "You don't have to bring me anything," he said softly, but his tone was kind. "But I'm grateful."

The animals seemed to understand, giving him one last look before wandering off to resume their day.

Sienna shook her head in disbelief. "I swear, I've never seen anything like that. It's like he's... connected to the forest itself."

Edward nodded. "You're right. But don't ask me why. I've given up trying to understand it."

Sienna sighed and stretched, deciding to let it go for now. "I guess I'm just not cut out for this whole 'magical forest' thing."

Edward gave her a small smile. "Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. Besides, we're not exactly normal ourselves, right?"

Sienna gave a little laugh, feeling slightly better. She stood up and dusted herself off. "Yeah, I guess you're right. But still, it's... pretty crazy."

Serian, still sitting calmly in his tree, suddenly looked up at the sky. His expression grew more thoughtful as he chewed on the apple in his hand. There was something deeply peaceful about him, something that made the world seem a little more at ease, like the forest itself had wrapped him in its embrace.

Sienna looked over at Edward, who was already preparing their things. "What do you think? Should we head out to catch some fish?"

Edward glanced at Serian, then back at Sienna. "Yeah, let's go. We should at least try to get some points today."

Sienna gave him a knowing look. "And we'll leave Serian to his friends in the meantime."

Edward chuckled. "We've got no choice. He's practically a forest spirit at this point."

Sienna agreed, shaking her head with a small smile. "Well, I guess we'll just have to get used to that too."

As the two of them began preparing to leave, Serian, still in his tree, finished his fruit and wiped his hands on his coat. He glanced at the fish in the river one more time, but, as usual, didn't seem to care much about them. Instead, he looked around the forest, watching the peaceful creatures go about their day.

For Serian, this world, with all its strange and magical wonders, was just one more place to explore. The creatures, the plants, the very air—all of it felt familiar in a way that he couldn't quite explain. But for now, he was content.

Sienna and Edward had been walking deeper into the forest when they heard something—something big moving through the brush. Leaves crunched, branches snapped, and then the ground shook. The two of them stopped in their tracks, eyes scanning the forest.

"That doesn't sound like any normal animal," Edward said, his voice steady but cautious. "Stay alert."

Sienna, always eager for a fight, grinned. "I don't know. Sounds like fun!"

Edward shot her a disapproving glance. "Don't get too excited. We don't know what we're dealing with."

But it was too late. The creature burst through the trees. It was massive, easily twice the size of a normal gorilla, and its eyes glowed a fierce red. The beast was covered in thick, mottled fur, with large, mutated muscles rippling under its skin. It roared loudly, shaking the ground.

"Whoa!" Sienna exclaimed, her grin widening. "Now that's a beast! Let's go!" She reached for her weapon, eager to jump into the fight.

Edward, on the other hand, quickly stepped in front of her, holding out his hand to stop her. "Hold on, Sienna! We don't know its abilities yet."

But Sienna, too impatient to wait, charged forward, darting past him. "I've got this!" she shouted. "Just stay out of my way!"

Edward sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Always so stubborn…" But he quickly followed her, keeping his distance, making sure not to get in her way while still staying close enough to help if needed.

Sienna attacked first, leaping into the air with her burning fists raised. She struck the mutant gorilla's side, her punches landing with a fiery force. The gorilla roared in pain but retaliated by swiping at her with its massive arms.

"Watch out!" Edward called out, but Sienna was already dodging, too quick for the beast to catch.

She grinned, landing a second blow. "Is that all you've got?"

The gorilla snarled, its eyes narrowing as it turned toward her, clearly angry. It charged at her, swinging its giant fist down with full force. Sienna barely managed to roll out of the way, but the shockwave from the punch sent her stumbling backward.

"Sienna, move!" Edward shouted, rushing to her side. He deflected one of the gorilla's punches with his sword, but it was clear this creature was more than a match for them.

Sienna gritted her teeth. "I'm fine!" She jumped back into the fight, but Edward grabbed her arm, pulling her away from the gorilla's reach.

"Listen to me!" Edward growled, his voice firm. "You're not invincible! You need to be more careful!"

Sienna shook him off, brushing her hair out of her face. "I don't need help!"

"Yes, you do!" Edward snapped, but just as he was about to argue more, the beast swung again, nearly clipping him. He barely dodged it, his heart racing. "Alright, fine. But just promise me you won't get yourself killed!"

Sienna didn't answer, but she did seem to slow down a little, realizing the gorilla was no joke. As she backed away, the gorilla began to charge again, this time with more fury. It was swinging its fists in rapid succession, trying to trap her.

That's when something strange happened.

From out of nowhere, vines shot up from the ground, wrapping around the beast's legs and arms. The gorilla roared and struggled, but the vines held it in place, immobilizing it.

Sienna blinked in confusion, looking around. "What the—?!"

From a nearby tree, Serian casually glanced down at the scene. He was still sitting comfortably, his silver hair gently moving with the breeze. He didn't seem worried or even particularly interested in the fight. His hand was resting on his book, which he opened slowly.

"The vines seemed to like you," Edward muttered, more to himself than anyone else. "I told you, he's like… connected to everything."

Sienna stared at the vines. "What is this? Who's controlling them?"

But before they could wonder any longer, Serian stood up and lazily dropped down from his tree, landing with hardly a sound. With a flick of his wrist, he reached out with the edge of his book and slammed it into the monster's glowing core.

The gorilla let out one final roar before it collapsed, its body going limp.

Sienna and Edward were left staring, wide-eyed.

Sienna turned to Edward, her mouth hanging open. "What... just happened? Did he… did he just kill it with a book?"

Edward shook his head, rubbing his forehead. "I don't know what that was, but I've learned not to question it anymore."

Sienna, still in shock, turned her gaze back to Serian, who had already returned to his perch on the tree, sitting with his legs crossed. He yawned, clearly uninterested in the chaos he had just ended.

"That's it?" Sienna asked, blinking. "You just... finished it off with a book?"

Serian glanced down at her, his expression calm. "It was a bit of a hassle, but I prefer peace." He didn't seem bothered in the slightest.

Sienna frowned. "Well, maybe I should start carrying a book too."

Edward chuckled, sitting down beside Sienna as he caught his breath. "Good luck with that. You'd still need to get the vines to help you."

Sienna glared at him playfully. "Hey, don't make fun of me! This wasn't my fault!"

Serian, hearing their banter, just shrugged and went back to nibbling on an apple. "It's not about fault. It's about getting the job done."

Edward sighed. "I swear, it's like he's from another world."

Sienna shook her head. "You think?" She turned back to the now-dead gorilla, trying to make sense of what had just happened.

"Yeah," Edward agreed, rubbing his neck. "But... I'm getting used to it. The guy's like a walking nature spirit, I swear."

Serian yawned, clearly uninterested in their conversation. "I'm just here for the peace and quiet," he muttered.

Sienna looked at Edward, then back at Serian. "Well, whatever it is, it's definitely not normal. I mean, who else could fight a mutant gorilla with a book?"

Edward smiled wryly. "I don't know, but I think we should just be thankful we're not on the receiving end of his 'peaceful' methods."

Sienna laughed nervously, finally starting to relax. "Yeah, I think we're better off just going with the flow."

As they gathered their things and started to move on, they couldn't help but glance up at Serian, who was already back to his usual calm self, surrounded by squirrels. His power—strange and seemingly limitless—was still something they couldn't quite understand. But one thing was certain: he was definitely someone they didn't want to mess with.

And as for Sienna, well, maybe she'd start carrying around a book just in case.
