Chapter 13
Chapter 13
What was that?
I was left dumbfounded by what Kim Gabyeol said before she left.
[Hahahahahahahahaha! Hahahahahaha!]
"Please stop laughing. Don't you have any dignity as an Archdemon? What's so funny about this anyway."
I openly scolded her to stop laughing, but Marbas pretended not to hear.
Instead, she laughed even louder.
[Hahahahaha! An Archdemon is a being who reigns above all demons, so I can laugh even more without caring about dignity! Hahaha!]
Marbas was spouting utter nonsense.
No way, my smile, which is more righteous, kind, pure, holy, and radiant than anyone's, actually looked like I was drowning someone?
It was a bit convincing, though.
'No, no way. That's total nonsense, not convincing at all.'
I turned my steps toward the nearby restroom.
Can't I just check who's right?
I ran straight to the restroom, looked in the mirror, and smiled.
'How could this kind smile look like I'm drowning someone?'
In the mirror was a man with a very kind smile.
'No matter who looks at it, it's kind, it looks kind...'
Hmm...
Hmmm.......
Hmmmm..........
I decided not to judge.
How can a person be perfect anyway.
No matter how perfect someone seems, everyone makes mistakes in life,
So what Kim Gabyeol said was probably just a mistake too.
At times like this, it's best for someone with a heart as vast as the ocean like me to let it go with broad generosity.
Actually, judging someone's face is wrong in the first place.
Oh, in this case, is it an expression?
Well, expression or face, it's all about appearance anyway. You shouldn't judge based on looks.
I'm such a good person, after all.
I haven't killed a single person in my life yet.
At least, not in this world.
What? I already killed someone during vacation?
Come on, that wasn't me, it was the demons who killed him.
After a demon parasitized his body and then self-destructed, he died, right?
If it weren't for that, why would I have any reason to kill him.
So it wasn't me who killed him.
Even if I had killed him, he was just a villain and a host possessed by a demon.
How could killing a demon's pawn be considered a crime.
So I am righteous and good.
[Why are you so bothered? Is it because you're hung up on what that old hag's contractor said? Well, it was all true anyway. Or was it someone you had feelings for? Aha, so the one you liked said such things, and now your heart feels stabbed and throbbing like it's been pierced with an awl. Right on the mark! Still, to react this intensely, just how much did you admire her? Watching you react like this is quite entertaining.]
"No... it's not."
To Marbas's words that deliberately scratched my nerves, I could only say it wasn't true.
How could I possibly say that I possessed someone from another world, that Kim Gabyeol was my favorite character, and that her words really got to me.
No one could confess that, no matter who they are.
Do you know how it feels to be insulted by your favorite character?
Besides, Kim Gabyeol's personality was also a problem.
The character Kim Gabyeol is not good at lying.
She's the type who speaks her honest impressions as they are.
But that doesn't mean she's inherently evil.
She just doesn't care about reading the room.
'It's my fault for possessing a squinting character.'
Putting aside my worries, I returned to my seat.
"Did you have a good trip to the restroom?"
Lee Jiwoo greeted me warmly.
Seonghyeon didn't pay much attention to me,
But appearances and reality are often different.
Lee Jiwoo is basically kind even to strangers or people she's not close with.
Seonghyeon isn't that friendly to strangers or people he's not close with.
But the truth is different.
Since I read the original work, I know that Seonghyeon actually cares deeply about others.
'Pretending to be indifferent, but actually warm-hearted bastard...'
I smiled and sat down.
"The entrance ceremony hasn't started yet, right?"
"Nope! Oh, right, if our names get called later, don't be surprised, okay?"
Lee Jiwoo looked at me with an expectant expression.
No matter how you see it, that's an invitation to ask why.
Not that I had any reason not to play along,
But acting isn't really my style.
"Ah, are you getting an award or something?"
"What? How did you know?"
Lee Jiwoo's eyes grew wide.
"Haha, didn't I tell you I was in Yongsan? Your achievements there were more than enough to deserve an award."
"Wait, I'm curious about something."
At that moment, Seonghyeon, with sharp eyes, cautiously joined the conversation.
"You said you were there too, right? Then why didn't you help us?"
Yeah, I figured he'd ask that sooner or later.
"Did you know? The two of you worked together incredibly well. I thought if I butted in recklessly, I might just get in your way instead.
So instead, I was worried that civilians might get hurt and focused on protecting them. Since you two held out so long against that vicious-looking villain, I think my judgment was right."
After I spilled out my rehearsed lines, Seonghyeon nodded reluctantly.
"...Alright, I get it for now."
"Haha, do you not believe me?"
Then Lee Jiwoo's eyes sparkled as she asked me,
"Really? Hyun and I worked that well together?"
"Yes, very well indeed. By the way, you two looked really close. Can I ask how long you've known each other?"
"Ah! Hyun and I are childhood friends. We've known each other pretty much since we were babies."
"Yeah, pretty much."
And at that moment, the lights on the stage came on.
"Oh, looks like the entrance ceremony is starting."
*
Nothing much happened during the entrance ceremony.
Seriously, is it even possible for an entrance ceremony to finish without getting attacked?
Well, since they all piled up and attacked a few days later, I'm not happy about it.
After the ceremony ended, we checked our assigned classes.
I was in Class 1, while Seonghyeon and Lee Jiwoo were in Class 4.
"Too bad we're not in the same class."
"Yeah, that's a shame. You're the first friend I made at the Academy!"
"But Warna Academy has lots of events between classes, so it's fine. Or there are clubs too."
"Haha, that's true. Well then, I'll head to my class now."
After a brief farewell with Seonghyeon and Lee Jiwoo, I headed to my assigned classroom.
"Class 1 is... ah, here it is."
[I sense Gabriel's presence.]
Marbas, as if she had PTSD from Gabriel, kept fussing that she could feel Gabriel's presence everywhere she went.
Because I got a bit lost, quite some time had passed before I finally arrived at Class 1.
Seriously, just how big is this academy?
Well, I guess that explains why those incidents happen in the original story.
As I got closer to Class 1, I could already hear the murmurs of many gathered students chatting away.
The outside of the classroom had a front door and a back door, just like a typical school classroom.
And in between, there were windows.
Maybe it was just the nature of the academy's architecture, but the ceiling was much higher than in normal schools, and the corridor was incredibly wide.
I quietly opened the back door and stepped into the classroom.
The moment I entered, a mix of various scents and the distinct air of the place greeted me.
First, I caught the smell of grass.
Probably means there's an alchemist in Class 1.
Then there was the scent of ashes left behind after something had burned.
'Seems like there's a fire mage too.'
I could also faintly sense divine power, probably because someone had contracted with an angel.
The classroom itself was about three times larger than a typical school classroom.
I paused for a moment to take in the inside of the classroom.
The first thing that caught my eye was the students.
Of course, the variety of hair colors was a given, but there was even someone whose hair moved on its own.
The floor was a dark gray, and stepping on it gave a sensation I couldn't quite identify.
It felt solid, but not like wood or concrete.
Maybe it's a new material I've never heard of?
Come to think of it, in the original story there were quite a few accidents in classrooms, but I don't recall any mention of the building being damaged.
And on that floor, I saw white lines drawn in a square-pretty obvious what those were for.
Probably for sparring.
The entire front wall was a whiteboard.
And in the corner, a very large TV stood out.
The desks were slightly bigger than the ones I used back before I possessed this body.
Instead of being paired together, each desk was spaced apart individually.
After my gaze had swept across the entire classroom, it felt quite quiet.
'Huh? Wasn't it pretty noisy just a moment ago?'
Maybe the timing just coincidentally lined up with a lull in conversation.
Though, for that, I felt like there were a lot more eyes on me now-but that was probably just because I had just walked in.
Anyway, since I arrived so late, there were only a few seats left.
All the good spots were already taken, so the only seats remaining were awkwardly at the front.
Well, nothing I can do about that.
I sat down in any empty seat.
"You're in Class 1 too?"
As soon as I sat down, a white-haired girl in front of me suddenly turned around with a swish.
The girl who turned to face me was Kim Gabyeol.
"Ah, so you're in Class 1 too, Kim Gabyeol?"
"Yeah, looking forward to studying together."
After exchanging a brief greeting with me, Kim Gabyeol turned her head back to the front.
'Was Kim Gabyeol originally in Class 1?'
I pondered it for a moment, but soon realized it was a pointless question.
She was in Class 1 in the original story too, so of course she's here now.
