Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Shadows of the Past
Years passed under the care of Grandpa Gohan, and the bond between Ikenna and Goku grew stronger. Their days were filled with training, laughter, and shared meals by the fire. The tranquil forest near Mount Paozu was their playground, a place where their Saiyan instincts thrived under Gohan's wise guidance. Yet, despite the peace, Ikenna couldn't shake the feeling that something—or someone—was watching them.
One crisp morning, the boys sparred by the riverbank. The clash of their fists and feet echoed through the valley, their energy growing with every strike. Ikenna's power surged unpredictably, as it often did, forcing him to pause and regain control.
"Focus, Ikenna!" Goku called, darting in with a flurry of punches. "You're leaving yourself open!"
Ikenna grinned, sidestepping Goku's assault and landing a light jab on his friend's shoulder. "You're fast, but I've got you figured out!"
Their playful banter was interrupted by the sound of rustling leaves. Both boys stopped, their tails twitching in unison. From the shadows of the forest, a figure emerged—a tall, armored alien with a scouter over one eye and a cruel smirk.
"Well, what do we have here?" the alien sneered, his voice laced with mockery. "Two little monkeys playing warrior. Frieza will be very interested in you."
Ikenna stepped forward, his tail flicking behind him. "Who are you? And what do you want?"
The alien chuckled darkly. "Name's Togin, one of Frieza's top scouts. I've been sent to investigate the Saiyan energy signals coming from this backwater planet. Didn't expect to find two brats." He tapped his scouter, which beeped erratically as it tried to measure Ikenna's power. "Interesting… your readings are unstable. You're either a weakling or hiding something."
Goku clenched his fists, standing beside Ikenna. "We're not scared of you!"
Ikenna's eyes narrowed, his aura sparking faintly. "If you're looking for a fight, you found one."
Togin laughed, raising a hand. "A fight? Oh, I'm going to enjoy this."
With a burst of speed, Togin lunged at the boys. Ikenna and Goku darted apart, their instincts taking over. Ikenna retaliated with a powerful punch, but Togin blocked it with ease, his armored hand gripping Ikenna's fist tightly.
"Not bad for a kid," Togin said, his grin widening. "But not good enough."
Before he could strike back, Goku slammed into Togin's side with a flying kick. The alien staggered, releasing Ikenna, who landed a swift uppercut. The boys moved in perfect sync, their training paying off as they pushed Togin back.
But the scout wasn't done. With a roar, Togin unleashed a shockwave of energy, sending both boys flying. Ikenna crashed into a tree, while Goku tumbled across the ground.
"You're strong for your age," Togin said, his tone growing more menacing. "But I'm done playing." He raised his hand, a ball of energy forming in his palm. "Time to end this."
Suddenly, a powerful voice rang out. "That's enough!"
Grandpa Gohan appeared, his staff in hand and his energy radiating with controlled intensity. He positioned himself between the boys and Togin, his gaze sharp.
"You dare threaten children?" Gohan said, his voice calm but firm. "You've made a grave mistake."
Togin smirked. "An old man? You think you can stop me?"
Gohan didn't reply. Instead, he surged forward with surprising speed, striking Togin with his staff. The alien staggered, caught off guard by the elderly warrior's strength. Gohan followed up with a precise energy blast, sending Togin crashing into the river.
Coughing and drenched, Togin glared at Gohan. "This isn't over," he spat. "Frieza will hear about this." Activating his scouter, he sent a transmission before blasting off into the sky.
Gohan turned to the boys, his expression grave. "Are you two hurt?"
"We're fine, Grandpa," Goku said, rubbing the back of his head.
Ikenna clenched his fists, frustration evident on his face. "We almost had him. Why weren't we strong enough?"
Gohan knelt before him, placing a hand on the boy's shoulder. "Strength isn't just about power, Ikenna. It's about knowing when to fight and when to retreat. You two did well, but this is just the beginning."
As the sun set, the three of them returned home. Gohan knew the peace they had enjoyed was over. Frieza's forces would come, and they needed to prepare.
That night, as the boys slept, Gohan gazed at the stars. His mind lingered on Ikenna's unstable energy and Goku's boundless potential. He knew that their destinies were intertwined with forces far beyond Earth.
The shadow of Frieza loomed, but so did the hope that these two Saiyan children might one day rise to face it.
