Chapter 24:
Chapter 24: Killed the Wrong Person???:
Lin Fan quickly answered the call.
“Hello? Brother Sikong, is that you?”
“It’s me,” Shen Wuxiao replied, pretending to sound anxious. “Do you have a TV nearby? Turn it on and watch Zhonghai News!”
Lin Fan’s heart sank.
If the other party was telling him to watch the news, it meant he had seen the report too…
Did I really kill the wrong person?
“I’m already watching. The news said the person who died was the son of the Haisha Group!”
Shen Wuxiao immediately added, “I don’t know the full story either, Brother Lin Fan. Do you have time? Let’s talk face to face.”
He suggested a meeting.
Lin Fan considered it for a moment and agreed. A face-to-face discussion did seem necessary.
“Alright. I’m coming over now.”
He hung up and left the room.
Damn it… I went through so much last night, got shot, and now I might have killed the wrong person?
Lin Fan had never allowed himself to shed innocent blood. No matter who that Haisha Group young master was—whether righteous or vile—Lin Fan had no personal grudge against him.
If he really had killed the wrong person, this was a huge problem.
But thinking back to last night, the man had been yelling for others to kill him, calling himself “Young Master.” That didn’t sound like an innocent person. If he really did kill the wrong man… well, at least he removed a menace from society.
With that in mind, Lin Fan left the hotel and took a taxi straight to Shen Wuxiao’s bay villa.
As he arrived, he saw Shen Wuxiao waiting at the gate.
Neither of them exchanged greetings. They went directly into the villa.
Shen Wuxiao was still acting overly cautious, peeking behind them as though someone were tailing them. He was playing the secret agent role to perfection.
Inside, once they reached the sofa, Shen Wuxiao put on a grim expression and began his performance.
“Brother Lin Fan, the person you killed last night really was the young master of Haisha Society.”
“Wait, Haisha Society? I thought it was Haisha Group,” Lin Fan asked.
Shen Wuxiao sighed. “Haisha Group is just the public name. Everyone on the darker path keeps a clean front. The real identity is Haisha Society.”
“It’s one of the three major underground forces in Zhonghai. Massive in scale. In fact, the entire Zhonghai underworld is ruled by three factions—and Haisha Society is one of them.”
Lin Fan frowned. “I didn’t know any of that. I only acted based on the intel you gave me. I tracked down Villa No. 19. When I broke in, the guy was already on alert. While I was escaping, he kept shouting, ‘Kill him! I’m the young master!’ Naturally, I assumed it was Shen Wuxiao.”
“And yes, I did kill him.”
Shen Wuxiao was laughing inside. Even the famous Border Wolf King can be misled.
But it made sense—Lin Fan was new to the city. He had no network, no one to gather intelligence. He was acting alone, completely blind. Fueled by vengeance, he accepted the intel Shen Wuxiao gave him without second-guessing it.
“It’s over now, Brother Lin Fan. You acted too rashly!” Shen Wuxiao shook his head with feigned concern. “I only said I saw Shen Wuxiao near that villa. I never confirmed that he actually lived there. Why rush into action so suddenly?”
“Yesterday, I thought you had just broken in and escaped. I had no idea you’d actually killed someone!”
“This is partly my fault. If I hadn’t watched the news, I’d still think Shen Wuxiao lived there.”
Shen Wuxiao covered his head and sighed helplessly.
Lin Fan paused. Thinking back, it was true.
Brother Sikong never directly said Shen Wuxiao lived there. He only mentioned seeing a very fashionable man exiting the villa. When he asked around, someone told him it was Shen Wuxiao.
That’s it.
No one ever confirmed he lived there.
What if Shen Wuxiao had simply been visiting the Haisha Society’s young master that night? In their circles, meeting for business or negotiations was completely normal.
So… I really might have killed the wrong man.
Still, what’s done was done.
“The guy’s dead. It’s too late to regret anything now,” Lin Fan said. Then he looked at Shen Wuxiao. “Brother Sikong, what kind of person was the Haisha young master, anyway?”
“Was he a scumbag? Cruel? The type who bullied the weak or killed people casually?”
Shen Wuxiao immediately realized what Lin Fan was doing—he was searching for emotional justification. If he could label the man as evil, it would give him peace of mind.
But Shen Wuxiao had other plans.
“The young master of the Haisha Group? No, he wasn’t like that. In fact, he often donated to charities, funded orphanages, and supported rural schools.”
“He was a little arrogant, sure—but he never bullied regular people.”
“Guys at his level care about their reputation. They don’t get their hands dirty over small things. Bullying commoners is something petty thugs do.”
Shen Wuxiao wasn’t lying.
The young master of Haisha Group was indeed the general manager. His tactics might’ve been ruthless in business, but ordinary people wouldn’t even get close enough to be affected. His donations? Those were PR strategies—tools to raise his public image and company value.
But for Lin Fan, that didn’t matter.
His heart sank.
He really had spilled innocent blood.
Shen Wuxiao leaned in and added, “Brother Lin Fan, now’s not the time for guilt. The Haisha Society will never take this lying down. Their young master is dead. They’re bound to seek revenge.”
“Zhonghai is about to become very dangerous. Did you at least cover your face during the attack? Did anyone see you?”
Lin Fan blinked.
Cover my face? Why?
He had acted openly, with righteous vengeance. Why sneak around?
“No. I didn’t cover my face.”
“What?!” Shen Wuxiao widened his eyes. “Okay… but they probably didn’t get a good look at you when you escaped, right?”
Lin Fan shook his head. “Dozens of people saw me clearly.”
Shen Wuxiao gasped dramatically, then ran into another room.
Moments later, he returned with two thick stacks of cash and shoved them into Lin Fan’s hands.
“Brother Lin Fan, we can’t stay here anymore. You have to leave and hide—immediately!”
“This money is for emergencies. If you run out, contact me and I’ll send more!” Shen Wuxiao said sincerely as he handed Lin Fan the thick stacks of cash.
Lin Fan was genuinely moved.
This Brother Sikong… was someone he could trust.
Despite knowing he had caused serious trouble, he hadn’t tried to distance himself or avoid responsibility. Instead, he was actively helping Lin Fan escape the crisis.
But Lin Fan wasn’t the type to run.
Who was he? The Border Wolf King!
He had yet to settle the real score with Shen Wuxiao, so how could he just leave Zhonghai now?
“Brother Sikong, I’m not a coward. There’s no need for this,” Lin Fan replied firmly.
Shen Wuxiao quickly responded, speaking earnestly, “Brother Lin Fan, please hear me out!”
“I understand your pride. But sometimes, pride has to take a back seat to the situation. You killed the wrong person—no matter how you spin it, that’s a problem.”
“If you really won’t leave the city, at least keep a low profile for now.”
“I own an old apartment complex in the old city district. It’s already been marked for demolition, so hardly anyone pays attention to it anymore.”
“Most of the residents have already moved out. The only people left are a rough mix of folks—no one will notice you there. Find a room and lay low for a while. I’ll come check in on you from time to time.”
Shen Wuxiao made it sound thoughtful and considerate, but the truth was—he wanted Lin Fan gone.
That old neighborhood was no safe haven. It was like a scene from Pig Cage Village, filled with all kinds of shady characters. The place often had power and water outages, was filthy, chaotic, and lawless.
Sure, Lin Fan could adapt—but he wouldn’t be comfortable.
Still, Shen Wuxiao needed him to hide for a while.
If Lin Fan stayed out in the open, it would ruin everything.
Because just moments ago, he had received a message from the border:
Jiang Huaiyue has returned.
Her return meant only one thing—she must’ve found out that Lin Fan had left.
Which also meant she might come looking for him directly.
And if Lin Fan didn’t hide, how was Shen Wuxiao supposed to seduce the woman he loved?
If all went according to plan, by the time Lin Fan came back…
Jiang Huaiyue might already be pregnant.
