Chapter 381: Lesson
As the words left Jake's mouth, it felt as if time itself had frozen. Everything around him stood still.
Astral Walk—a godly technique from his past life allowed him to manipulate space and time to a certain extent. However, he rarely used it in combat. His mastery of the technique was flawed, making it more useful for short bursts of space travel when no teleporters were available.
With the Asura King momentarily frozen, Jake seized the opportunity. In a flash, he appeared in front of him, raising his hand high, ready to deliver a clean, decisive palm chop to sever the Asura King's head.
But just as his strike was about to connect—Something happened.
A strange phenomenon caused Jake to instinctively leap back.
The Asura King's body began to glow, vibrating at an unnatural speed—glitching as if reality itself couldn't keep up with him. But Jake quickly realized what was happening. The Asura King wasn't glitching, he was vibrating his body and the rings at an extremely high frequency.
"This…" Jake muttered, his heart sinking. The disappointment of his failed technique settled in.
This is going to be a long day… he thought, preparing himself for what came next.
*CRACK!*
A deafening sound echoed across the battlefield as if the very fabric of reality had fractured. And then—time resumed.
"HAHAHAHA!! FANTASTIC! YOU CONTINUE TO AMAZE ME, VAMPIRE!" The Asura King's booming laughter filled the air. "I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD WIELD A GOD-LEVEL TECHNIQUE! UNFORTUNATELY FOR YOU, I CAN DO SOMETHING SIMILAR! ALL I HAD TO DO WAS VIBRATE AND DISTORT TIME!"
Mockery laced his voice, but there was something else too—genuine excitement.
"Heh… I have to admit, you're strong," the Asura King said, his tone shifting slightly. "At first, I thought you'd be just as boring as the others. But you've surprised me. Now, I'll take you seriously… and show you the true strength of an Asura King."
Instantly, the atmosphere changed.
The temperature spiked as an overwhelming wave of primal energy surged around the Asura King. His killing intent was razor-sharp like countless needles piercing through the air.
Jake involuntarily swallowed.
'Damn… He's at least a universal-level threat.'
'If I'd already reached the Warlock stage, I could use my true form… but with sixty percent of my power, I should still be evenly matched if I use everything at my disposal.'
Despite his confidence, the sheer pressure of the fight weighed on him. He had never faced such a formidable enemy since he reincarnated.
His thoughts were cut short.
The Asura King vanished—then reappeared right in front of him, throwing a devastating punch straight at Jake's face.
But this time, Jake didn't dodge. He didn't even flinch.
"Double Counter!"
The moment the Asura King's fist made contact, it felt as though he had struck an invisible wall.
Then—BOOM!
The wall exploded, rebounding the force of his punch back at him twice as strong.
The impact slammed into the Asura King's chin, sending him flying backward in shock and pain.
But he wasn't finished.
Without hesitation, four of his floating rings shot toward Jake, aiming to slice his head clean off.
Jake reacted instantly, raising his right arm to shield himself.
*SHING!*
A sharp, chilling sensation ran through him.
His right hand— cleanly severed.
'W-What…?'
His eyes widened as he watched his severed hand spin through the air.
'My Ki… couldn't even shield me from those rings?!'
Acting fast, Jake retreated, putting as much distance as possible between himself and the deadly rings.
As Jake retreated from the rings, blood tendrils erupted from his severed arm, latching onto his detached hand midair and pulling it back. In seconds, his hand reattached itself, the wound sealing as if it had never been cut.
The Asura King's lips curled into a manic grin seeing Jake's action.
"Fantastic… But tell me, can you reattach your head just as easily?" His grin widened, his eyes glinting with sadistic delight.
Jake flexed his fingers, waiting for his hand to fully heal. "I won't make that mistake again. Now I know what those rings are capable of."
"Really?" The Asura King giggled, his laughter unsettling. "Heh, we'll see about that."
Jake exhaled slowly, assessing his opponent. 'Thank goodness he loves to talk and toy with his enemies. If he were a serious fighter, this battle would've gone very differently.'
Then his eyes turned white.
Activating Gyo, his vision sharpened a hundredfold. He could see everything, the fluctuations of primal energy swirling around the Asura King, every minuscule movement, every shift in energy.
It was time to stop holding back.
First stage…
Second stage…
Third stage…
Fourth stage…
A massive surge of Ki erupted around Jake, forming a violent storm of energy. This was the first time he had fully mastered the fourth stage, and for a fleeting moment, he felt he could push even further. But Alphonso's warning rang in his mind. Ki was directly tied to one's life force. Reckless usage could drain him dry. Even now, sustaining the fourth stage would leave him unable to use Ki for weeks.
The Asura King's playful expression faded into something far more serious.
"Ki… You can wield it to this extent?" His voice carried a mix of awe and frustration. "Even the fourth stage… That's supposed to take decades of brutal training and countless battles. I envy you, vampire."
Without warning, the Asura King disappeared—then reappeared in front of Jake, throwing a relentless barrage of punches. The sheer force sent ripples tearing through the air. But Jake stood firm, his body shielded by Ki. With Gyo still active, he could track every fluctuation of the Asura King's energy, reading his movements with accuracy.

Then an idea struck him.
Something he had never tried before.
Timing the Asura King's blows, he suddenly canceled Gyo. His crimson eyes flared, and in the next instant, twin beams of concentrated vampiric energy shot from his gaze.
The result was immediate.
The beams sliced through the floating rings, then through the Asura King's four arms, severing them in a clean motion. Before the severed limbs could hit the ground, Jake fired again, incinerating them completely.
Seizing the opening, he closed the distance in a blur. A devastating kick to the chin sent the Asura King flying backward. Jake didn't let up, he was already there before the Asura King could recover, unleashing a brutal onslaught of punches. Each strike carried immense force, shaking the ground beneath them. The battlefield cracked and caved with every blow, deep craters forming in their wake.
After two relentless minutes, the Asura King lay battered and broken in a deep crater, his severed limbs bleeding heavily and his body covered in wounds.
Jake loomed over him, planting a foot on his chest with crushing force.
"You're ridiculously durable," he muttered. "But I happen to have the perfect tool for that."
With a flick of his wrist, Excalibur appeared in his grasp.
The Asura King coughed, his breath ragged. "How… How did you do that? Why couldn't I regenerate? And my rings… how were they destroyed?" A storm of emotions flickered across his face. Disbelief, anger, regret and even fear.
Jake smirked. "Let me enlighten you before I end this."
"The first mistake was your arrogance. You chose to put away your daggers and fight me barehanded. Truth is, you're much stronger than me by a huge margin. But arrogance and ignorance blinded you."
"I've fought someone who wielded Primal Energy before. It's purely offensive. But its greatest flaw is that It lacks defense. Once I found a way to break through, all I had to do was ensure you couldn't regenerate. I accomplished that by mixing my blood aura with Ki."
"As for your rings…" Jake's smirk deepened. "They weren't just weapons, were they? They were extensions of your body—an integral part of you. Destroying them meant destroying your last chance to regenerate."
His grip on Excalibur tightened.
"This fight taught me something valuable. Never toy with an enemy."
Without hesitation, Jake raised the sword, then brought it down in a swift motion.
