Chapter 736 White Bone Ghost Cultivator
"After leaving the Sea Tower Branch Trade Association, Lu Xuan rode on his Wind-Thunder Sword at an electrifying speed, heading towards the entrance of the Abyss Star Cave.
By the time he reached the entrance, he had imperceptibly changed his appearance to that of a gloomy young man with a yin-like aura.
At the entrance, Evil Cultivators frequently went in and out. With the sense of evil and yin energy from Lu Xuan's "Mysterious Sky Clear Subtle Method," each Evil Cultivator contained an extremely rich mixture of yin qi, malicious qi, and the scent of blood within them.
The Spirit of Flesh, hidden within the Gluttonous Bag Magical Treasure, also caught these scents. It, which had previously been motionless and well-behaved, suddenly became restless, as if it was about to burst out of the bag at any moment to greedily inhale those scents.
"It looks like I've come to the right place," Lu Xuan thought to himself.
Drawing a deep breath, Lu Xuan channeled a stream of Spiritual Energy into the Abyss Order in his hand.
The malevolent ghost on the dark token instantly came to life, emanating a thick black mist that wrapped around Lu Xuan and pulled him into a dark, ghostly world.
After an indeterminate period of traveling through this dark and ghostly space, Lu Xuan found himself stepping onto a new land.
What appeared before his eyes was a dimly lit world, heavy with yin qi, scant of any vitality, with a small town not far off where he could see the shadows of numerous cultivators.
Lu Xuan swept the area with his Spiritual Sense to ensure there were no abnormalities, then followed the other cultivators into the sinister, yin-qi filled town.
The town was home to many cultivators, most of who emanated dense yin qi, with a few taking on strange forms, short of having an Evil Cultivator label slapped right on them. Moreover, there were quite a number of malevolent spirits and yin souls drifting around.
In the town center, some shops were open, and stalls were set up on both sides of the street, mostly selling bizarre materials and magic artifacts.
In terms of the eeriness and bloodiness, it was at least as strong as, if not stronger than, the Evil Strange Spirit Field in Lu Xuan's Cave Mansion.
Although Lu Xuan was a man who usually kept on good terms with others and seldom engaged in disputes, the years of exposure to the Evil Strange Spirit Field meant he felt not the least bit uncomfortable entering this place.
"However, if the small town in front of me is all there is, then it doesn't quite match up with the famous Abyss Star Cave," Lu Xuan observed, looking around in puzzlement.
"Senior, is this your first time entering the Abyss Star Cave? I wonder if you need a guide?" suddenly, a chilling voice arose from beneath his feet.
Looking down, Lu Xuan saw sections of white bones slowly drilling out from the pitch-black ground.
Once all the bones had emerged, they started assembling themselves into a humanoid form.
It was evident that the skull and the other bones were somewhat mismatched, as the skull fell off several times during the process.
Finally, out of desperation, the skeleton fetched a tendon from nowhere and threaded it through, securing the skull atop the head.
"A Ghost Cultivator… that's somewhat interesting. Do you usually stay buried in this ground?" Lu Xuan asked with amusement while watching the flustered skeleton.
He had sensed the movement of the skeleton as soon as it began, but after perceiving that the skeletal creature's spiritual power fluctuations were not even at the level of Perfect Qi Training, he did not bother to intervene.
"Back to the senior, the yin soil here is rich in yin qi and connected to the depths of the Abyss Star Cave, which aids my cultivation," the skeleton responded.
"It's just that when I realized the senior seemed unfamiliar with the Abyss Star Cave, I bravely dug myself out hoping to be of some help to you."
Two dim green lights flickered in the hollow eye sockets of the skeleton as it spoke softly.
In the meantime, the skull tilted to the side considerably, forcing the skeleton to use its finger bones to adjust it and ultimately tie a tight knot to keep it in place.
"Indeed, it's my first time here," Lu Xuan replied calmly, "but before I decide, why don't you introduce yourself first?"
"Of course, senior!""
Hearing Lu Xuan's words, the dull green light in White Bone's eye sockets flickered, seemingly filled with delight.
"Because my flesh body was destroyed, I had no choice but to switch to cultivating the White Bone Ghost Path and have been staying in the yin earth of the Abyss Star Cave."
"Having died many years ago, I've long forgotten the origins of my life before death. Elder, you may simply call me Ghost Seventeen."
"Ghost Seventeen? You, a ghost cultivator with mere Qi Cultivation strength, dare to appear before me so brazenly? Are you not afraid I'll be displeased and crush you into pieces with a flick of my hand?"
A smile appeared at the corner of Lu Xuan's mouth.
"Afraid! Of course I'm afraid! I know that many of my kind have been pulverized by irascible Foundation Establishment and Core Formation seniors or casually refined on a whim."
"However, although I am weak, I am still a part of the White Bone Palace of the Abyss Star Cave, and most senior experts who enter the Star Cave will give some face to the White Bone Palace."
White Bone pointed at a stark white mark on its shoulder blade and spoke with reverence.
"Of course, the main reason is that my intuition has always been very accurate, and I believe that the senior before me isn't that kind of cultivator."
"For us lowly ghost cultivators, seeking out cultivators is tantamount to vying for an opportunity."
"If the bet is right, I can earn some spirit stones and continue to struggle for survival on the first layer of the Abyss Star Cave."
"If wrong, it's at most the loss of a dog's life."
"But for the sake of survival, I have no choice but to gamble, as any other way to earn spirit stones would only be more dangerous."
White Bone optimistically said, and as it got excited, its skull almost detached from the sinews.
"Alright, you've made the right bet. Tell me about the Abyss Star Cave, and if you satisfy me, you won't lack for spirit stones," Lu Xuan said with a light laugh.
"Thank you, Elder!"
White Bone quickly bent over in gratitude, and with a strange, cringe-worthy noise, its skull bent ninety degrees downward, hanging in front of its chest by the sinews.
"May I ask what the elder would like to know?"
"Start by telling me what exactly is going on with the first layer of the Abyss Star Cave."
The dull green light in White Bone's eye sockets shimmered, as if it was organizing its thoughts.
"Elder, the Abyss Star Cave is divided into seven layers, each with its unique traits," it began.
"The Star Cave is funnel-shaped, narrow at the top and wider at the bottom. To descend to the next layer, one must be at a specific location, and access is dependent on one's cultivation level or a token."
"The first layer has the smallest area and its yin qi is somewhat weaker than the other layers, with not many secret lands or strange treasures. It mainly serves as a transit station, inhabited by numerous weak ghost cultivators and yin creatures like myself."

"The second and third layers, which house fewer evil cultivators and ghost creatures, are mostly at the Foundation Establishment level. Scattered in these layers are numerous secret lands, and those with deep enough destiny can acquire many fortuitous treasure items."
"The fourth and fifth layers are occupied by Golden Core Real People or ghost creatures of equivalent strength; these areas can be considered the core of the Abyss Star Cave, home to many forces. White Bone Palace, where I belong, is one of them. Moreover, there are still many unexplored secret lands, where one may obtain abundant treasures, although the risks also increase."
"The sixth layer belongs to the Heavenly Star Cave. It is said that the Star Master of Abyss Star Cave and his Star Envoys cultivate there, and few loose cultivators manage to enter."
"There is also a Ghost Market, famous throughout the Cultivation World, where you can find all kinds of exotic and strange treasure items."
"As for the seventh layer, it is rumored to house a Ghost City called Fengdu, teeming with numerous powerful ghost creatures. Even a Nascent Soul True Monarch might not come out on top."
"However, the entrance to the seventh layer is sealed by the Heavenly Star Cave, and one must use a treasure crafted by them to enter."
The White Bone Ghost Cultivator said in one breath.
