Chapter 172: Kill the shaman
"No matter what, the Shaman must die." Rick declared seriously, standing in front of the group. Boris didn't care. Jeanne understood the gravity of the mission and had accepted it long ago.
The only problem was Jomei's hesitation, as he looked down in shame. Rickard, knowing how Jomei felt, sighed. "Jomei, if you don't think you can do it, you can wait for us?"
At Rick's words, Boris and Jeanne turned to Jomei. Seeing all eyes on him, Jomei smiled awkwardly. Still, he didn't want to stay behind.
"I may feel bad about seeing someone die, but I don't want to watch you fight alone either. I'm coming with you." Jomei's expression was serious, and Boris, smiling involuntarily, gave him a light pat on the back.
"Good job, Jomei. It would be boring without you." Hearing Boris, Jomei offered a half-smile and nodded in thanks. Meanwhile, Rick made the final preparations. After ensuring everything was in order, he took one last look at his group.
"Are you ready? The Shaman and his guards will soon arrive at the spot we're waiting for."
"Yeah, let's go beat them up a little." A wild grin of battle lust spread across Boris's lips. Jeanne and Jomei were ready as well.
Seeing that everyone was confident, Rick smiled, and they set their plan into motion.

Meanwhile, as the Shaman Björn's carriage traveled down the road, a figure suddenly fell from the sky, shattering the ground completely. The horses collapsed, and the carriage overturned. Björn, momentarily dazed, quickly pulled himself together and emerged from the wreckage.
"Bastards! We're under attack!"
A Wargan guard, looking at Boris who had risen from the ground, shouted fiercely. The guards immediately moved to protect the Shaman, but suddenly, screams echoed from behind as well.
"Damn it! They're coming from the rear too!" Find adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
A bull, twice the size of a normal one, charged forward, knocking aside every Wargan in its path as it rushed toward the stunned Shaman.
Seeing the massive beast coming at him, Björn narrowed his icy blue eyes mercilessly and gritted his teeth. In an instant, ice spikes shot from his hands, racing toward the bull. But just as they were about to pierce it, Sacred Flames erupted around the Shaman, melting his ice in an instant.
Jeanne and Jomei surrounded the Shaman. He tried to escape, but the flames engulfed everything, leaving him no way out. Screams echoed from every direction as Rick and Boris attacked from both sides. Cursing anxiously, the Shaman desperately sought a way to neutralize his attackers.
"Surrender, old man. You can't escape." Jeanne drew her swords, threatening the Shaman. Unfortunately, he showed no fear.
"In your dreams, you whore!" Suddenly, the ground was covered in ice, and spiraling winds rushed toward Jeanne. Her flames condensed into a shield, glowing intensely.
As the two forces clashed, the Shaman poured even more power into his magic, his face filled with hatred. But at that moment, the bull crashed into him, sending him flying and dragging his body across the ground.
"Did you forget about me already?" Jomei taunted playfully as he rushed toward the fallen Shaman, intent on subduing him. As the bull charged as well, the Shaman quickly stood up, his hands glowing with blue mana, reinforcing his body.
Grabbing the bull's horns, he let out a furious roar and, with immense strength, hurled the beast aside. As the bull's body crashed to the ground, Jomei gasped in shock.
"Don't underestimate me, you—"
Before he could finish, Jeanne's kick slammed into the Shaman's head, sending him spinning through the air before he crashed down. In an instant, her swords pierced his body, pinning him to the ground.
"It's over. Surrender."
"You're... so... funny..." Coughing up blood, the Shaman grinned—crazed, defiant. His gaze, filled with fury, locked onto Jeanne's eyes. "This... isn't over..."
Suddenly, strange runes covered his body. Jeanne barely had time to react before a massive surge of mana erupted, blasting her away.
"Jeanne! What's happening?!" Jomei shouted in concern. The Shaman's figure was barely visible within the glowing blue light. Ice began rising from the ground, and an overwhelming mana pressure bore down on Jeanne and Jomei.
"I have to kill you before it's complete..."
Jeanne narrowed her eyes, assessing the situation. She rushed to deliver the final blow, but an ice arm slammed into her, sending her flying back with a scream of pain.
"Jeanne!"
Jomei tried to help her, but a sudden burst of laughter echoed in his ears. It was the voice of Shaman Björn. The man who should have been dead now stood within a towering ice giant.
He should have died. His body was dead. Yet, somehow, Björn was still alive. Unable to understand how, Jomei took a step back in shock.
"Fools! Even if my body perishes, my soul is still blessed by the Winter Goddess! You will die and suffer for this!" Björn's crazed laughter filled the air.
The ice giant stood nearly twenty meters tall, glowing with constantly shifting rune circles.
Sensing the overwhelming threat, Jomei felt fear for the first time. But he refused to abandon Jeanne. Steeling himself, he rushed toward her.
As the bull's body moved rapidly beside him, the ice giant glowed once more, its light dispersing the sacred flames around it. Only then did the full scene become clear.
Wargan soldiers lay dead on the ground. Seeing this, Björn trembled with fury and turned his murderous gaze toward the two men responsible.
"Damn you! Damn you all! How dare you?!" His massive ice form quaked with rage.
Boris furrowed his brows, observing the giant with a frown. "So this is the Shaman? His voice is really annoying."
"Now's not the time for jokes. We need to take him down." Rick, serious, glanced at Jomei and Jeanne, who were retreating. He nodded toward Boris, who smirked before dashing forward.
Boris leaped over the rising ice spikes and jumped at the ice giant, aiming a punch. Björn, laughing maniacally, bellowed:
"Come to your death, you bastard! I will be your end!"
Their fists collided. Boris's arm numbed from the impact, while Björn's massive arm cracked slightly—but it quickly repaired itself.
As Boris pulled back, his expression darkened.
"Can this damned thing heal itself?"
"This is the power of the Snow Goddess! A power your foolish Goddess could never grant you!" Björn laughed hysterically, only to be stunned when one of his legs was suddenly severed, and his massive ice body collapsed to the ground.
As the dust settled, Björn's frozen limb regenerated instantly, but he paid it no mind. His icy gaze was locked onto Rickard, who stood before him, holding a sword radiating with divine energy.
Björn, unable to perceive Rickard's approach, furrowed his brows in disbelief and struggled to his feet. "This is impossible! How can worms like you possess such overwhelming power? Unthinkable! Unacceptable!"
"Shut up already," Rick muttered, irritated by the shaman's outbursts. In response to his will, Excalibur pulsed with sacred energy.
Feeling the excitement of his sword, Rick fully unleashed its power. A brilliant explosion of holy light purified everything in its path, even dispelling the surrounding ice.
The sheer force of the divine energy created powerful air currents, scattering the snow and causing the Ice Titan to freeze in both shock and fear. Before Björn could react, Rick dashed forward and sliced through his legs.
"Wh-what—?"
As the shaman crashed to the ground, Rick's blade plunged into the Ice Titan's core, radiating with immense power. Björn, feeling his very soul tremble in agony, panicked and attempted to escape. However, Excalibur unleashed a devastating beam of light, shattering most of his icy form and sending him flying.
Now reduced to little more than a torso and a head, the Ice Titan whimpered in terror. Even his regeneration had slowed. As Björn screamed in pain, Rick climbed onto the crumbling remains of his body.
"This will be the end for you, shaman..." Rick spoke calmly, lifting his sword for the final blow. His piercing gaze met Björn's fearful eyes.
"No... it can't be... Not like this—"
With a swift strike, Excalibur pierced through what remained of Björn, cutting off his last words. Without sparing him another glance, Rick leaped away.
Boris, still rubbing his numb arm, cursed under his breath. While it didn't hurt, the lingering sensation was frustrating. That Ice Titan had been no joke.
And yet, Rick had obliterated him in an instant. Watching Rickard's incredible display of power, Boris couldn't help but acknowledge the vast gap between them.
"Excalibur truly is a one-of-a-kind weapon..." he muttered. The battle had ended the moment Rick had unleashed its power. Realizing this, Boris sighed, deciding he needed to train harder.
As he rolled his shoulders, he noticed Jeanne, who still looked grumpy, and Jomei, who had finally calmed down, approaching them.
Seeing their expressions, Boris smirked. "You guys look like you've been through hell."
Jeanne grumbled, while Jomei chuckled sheepishly. "We got roughed up a little."
Jomei's gaze then shifted to Rick, who was walking toward them with a composed expression. Behind him, the remains of the Ice Titan continued to melt away. Jomei's eyes gleamed with admiration.
"You completely wrecked him. That was awesome."
Rick smiled. "Thanks. Honestly, I couldn't have done it without Excalibur."
"Don't sell yourself short. You fought well," Jeanne said, smiling for the first time in a while. "Unlike me, you didn't pass out."
Boris chuckled and playfully slapped Jomei's shoulder. "See that, Jomei?"
Jomei sighed, pulling two gold coins from his pocket and handing them to Boris, who grinned in satisfaction as he tucked them away.
Rick's expression darkened. "Wait... Did you guys make a bet? Seriously? And you didn't invite me?"
"Hey, you guys do remember I'm still here, right?" Jeanne teased with a mock pout.
Rick chuckled. "Either way, the mission is complete. Let's head ba—"
"Not so fast, you bastards..."
A chilling laugh echoed through the battlefield. Instantly, the group drew their weapons and assumed defensive stances.
"How is he still alive!?" Jomei exclaimed in shock.
Rick frowned. As the remnants of the Ice Titan slowly ascended into the sky, Björn's voice resounded once more, but this time, it was darker—more menacing.
"The Winter Goddess is both powerful and merciful... Her will demands your destruction, and as her most devoted servant, I shall see to it personally. Your dreams, your bodies, your minds—everything you hold dear will be annihilated!"
A sudden, violent gust of wind forced the heroes to brace themselves. The shattered remains of the Ice Titan began to glow and shift.
First, massive wings formed. Then, a spiked head, a long, sinuous tail, and a maw filled with razor-sharp teeth...
As the transformation completed, Rick's eyes widened in realization.
"That's... a dragon...?"
The Ice Dragon, its luminous aura fading, fully materialized. The sheer presence of its mana forced the entire hero party to retreat to a safer distance.
"RAAAAAAAAH!!!"
The dragon's hollow eyes suddenly burned with a deep crimson light. It lifted its massive head toward the sky and let out a deafening roar.
With that roar, the entire battlefield changed—blizzards surged forth, consuming everything in their path.
Bolts of lightning rained down, shattering the ground. Trees froze in an instant as the beast finally turned its gaze upon the hero party.
Its crimson, mindless eyes trembled with pure madness before it let out a feral, thunderous bellow—
—And charged at them.
