I Got a Notification on my Laptop and Got Legendary Powers

Chapter 6: A Clash of Egos

Eli wiped sweat from his brow as he moved silently through the dense forest, his enchanted blade at the ready. The system had assigned him a solo raid to eliminate a rogue monster that had been terrorizing a nearby settlement. The forest was alive with danger, every rustling leaf and snapping twig a potential threat. He was used to these missions by now—or so he thought.

As Eli approached a clearing, he noticed a figure already engaged in combat with the rogue monster, a towering beast covered in scales and bristling with spikes. The figure—a man—fought with an almost reckless abandon, his moves flashy and over-the-top. Fire erupted from his hands, and the man's laughter echoed through the trees as he dodged the monster's attacks with ease.

"Hey!" Eli shouted, stepping into the clearing. "This is my mission. What the hell are you doing?"

The man turned, a smirk plastered across his face. He was tall and athletic, his dark hair slicked back, and he wore a flamboyant outfit that looked more suited for a nightclub than a battlefield.

"Your mission?" the man said, raising an eyebrow. "Sorry, buddy, but this big guy here? He's my ticket to leveling up. You're welcome to watch, though."

Eli gritted his teeth. "You're interfering with the system's balance. Step aside."

The man laughed. "Name's Arjun. And if you think you're taking this kill from me, you're out of your mind."

Before Eli could respond, the rogue monster roared and charged. Both men were forced to dodge in opposite directions. Eli quickly realized that the monster had grown stronger, likely due to their bickering disrupting the flow of the fight. He cursed under his breath and launched into action, slashing at the beast's legs to slow it down.

Arjun, meanwhile, continued his flashy attacks, throwing fireballs and spinning in elaborate moves that were more show than substance. Despite his irritation, Eli had to admit that Arjun was skilled. Still, his recklessness was putting them both in danger.

"Focus!" Eli shouted as the monster's tail whipped dangerously close to Arjun. "You're going to get us killed!"

Arjun grinned. "Relax, man. I've got this."

Eli's patience snapped. "This isn't a game! Stop showing off and fight like your life depends on it!"

The words seemed to hit home. Arjun's grin faded, and his attacks became more precise. Together, they managed to corner the beast. Eli delivered the final blow, his blade piercing the monster's heart. As the creature disintegrated into light, the system notification appeared in both their visions:

Mission Complete. Rewards Distributed.

Arjun clapped Eli on the back, his cocky grin returning. "Not bad, partner. Maybe we make a good team after all."

Eli sighed, rubbing his temples. "This isn't a team. Stay out of my way."

Arjun's laughter followed him as he walked away, but Eli couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't the last he'd see of the flamboyant stranger.
