Chapter 144
Chapter 144 Season 2 – Holding Hands
The single wing attached to Karune’s tailbone suddenly grew to an enormous size.
At the same time, the girl let out a terrifying scream.
“Craaaaahhhhhh-!!”
Her left wing, made of black magic, and her naturally white right wing merged, transforming her into a perfect form of a ‘Fallen Angel.’
“She looks like Empress Ria’s youngest daughter… but there’s something suspicious about her. Can you handle her, Lyra?”
“Ah, yes! I’ll do my best, Karune!”
Karune flapped her wings and leapt into the air.
Just before she descended toward the human emitting their father’s aura, she asked her younger half-sister, Lyra, for support.
Immediately after, Lyra, eager to prove herself, rushed toward Ria.
“Little sister! Stay still, and I’ll only subdue you! Got it?”
“Who are you calling little sister?!”
*Bang!*
The two girls, with only different hair colors, collided their fists with a tremendous impact.
Now, it was their turn.
“…She’s coming!”
As Karune soared higher into the sky, she suddenly folded her wings and began spinning like a drill as she plummeted toward Shin-woo.
Seeing her fall like a spinning drill, Shin-woo decided to dodge, knowing he couldn’t block it.
‘I can’t block that!’
*Boom!*
As expected, Karune’s charge was devastating.
The moment Shin-woo jumped to the side, she drilled a clean hole into the ground where he had just stood, embedding herself deep into the earth.
But the scariest part was just beginning.
*Rumble, rumble.*
“What’s this…”
“Is it an earthquake?”
The ground began shaking violently as if an earthquake had hit.
From deep underground, Karune redirected herself and emerged beneath Shin-woo with the same intense speed.
*Crunch!*
“Gah?!”
“Oppa!”
Looking down at the ground, Shin-woo took the full brunt of the spinning force, soaring high into the sky before crashing back down to the earth.
The fight had essentially been decided.
“Ka-Karune! What if you killed him?!”
“Oh, right! Damn… I forget my limits after monsterification… But there’s still one left, so it’s okay, right?”
“True, but that human was the only one with His Majesty’s aura.”
“Ugh… You’re right. Did we mess up badly?”
A terrible mistake.
It was an enormous, foolish mistake.
They might have just killed someone important to His Majesty.
As Karune trembled with worry, Lyra trembled as well, sharing her sister’s concerns.
But then, a voice interrupted their panic.
“What are you two trembling about?”
“Huh?”
“Do you really think my oppa would die that easily?”
Ria said, amused.
And just like she said—
“Ouch, that hurt!”
“What?!”
“You took my monsterified drill head-on, didn’t you…?”
Shin-woo stood up, dusting himself off and massaging his bruised abs, as if he had merely tripped.
“Oppa! Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. I just wish I had some ointment… I didn’t break any bones, but my skin’s pretty scraped up.”
“Then let’s stop by the time machine tomorrow and get some ointment!”
“Yeah, let’s do that.”
Karune’s spinning force was powerful enough to create a tunnel through a mountain.
It was a technique that could pierce through most monsters in an instant, one even praised by her siblings.
Yet, it had been blocked by a mere human without monster blood.
Karune couldn’t believe it.
But there was no time to be astonished.
“A time machine…? Ointment…?”
“Lyra! I’ll buy us some time!”
“Karune?”
“Go back to the kingdom and tell everyone! A human who can threaten monsters has reappeared after five years!”
“…! Yes!”
They were outmatched.
The enemy wouldn’t wait for them to retreat.
Their only option left was ‘bait’ and ‘reinforcements.’
Lyra couldn’t handle this human alone.
Karune made the decision to order Lyra to retreat while she stayed behind to buy time.
She began spinning again, this time staying on the ground, rotating at high speed like a mint-colored top.
Shin-woo felt a chilling sensation, as though his skin would be torn off, but nonetheless, he readied his ‘charged stance.’
“Let’s see… just how tough I am in this state.”
It seemed his daughter was tough enough to drill through solid ground with ease.
He took a stance, ready for a direct punch, waiting for his spinning daughter.
Meanwhile—
“Damn it, Karune! Just hang on! I’ll run to the nearby military base for reinforcements!”
Lyra sprinted towards the military base, where they periodically hunted rogue monsters and human bandits outside the city walls.
She had to return before her sister’s life was in danger.
It was only a 10-minute run away, so she could make it quickly.
But then, someone blocked her path—the younger sister she thought she had.
“Who… who are you really?”
“Hmph. You’re only asking that now?”
“I thought you were my younger sister at first. But my little sister wouldn’t attack us like this.”
Lyra growled, baring her teeth.
But to Ria, her daughter’s threat was laughable.
“Do you think I’d be scared of you?”
“…What?”
“Come here. Mom’s going to teach you a lesson.”
“Mom? What are you talking about?!”
Lyra thought she needed to get rid of this small child and move on quickly.
She revealed her demonic black claws that could melt anything they touched.
She then slashed at Ria.
*Rip!*
“My clothes…?”
“That was a warning. If you share my genes, you should have some regeneration ability. So, move aside before I cut off an arm or a leg.”
“Huh? Does that mean you have regeneration too?”
“Of course! I’m from the Ria family too!!”
Once more, Lyra aimed for Ria’s right arm with her demonic claws.
But before her attack could even land—
“Phew. Thank goodness.”
“?!”
It was a strong attack, but just claws.
As long as they didn’t touch her, Ria had seen this kind of attack before from her younger sister. She grabbed Lyra’s wrist, stopping the attack.
Then—
“Straight punch.”
“…What?”
It was a technique not even Empress Ria had taught her children.
It was a martial art from the past when humans were stronger than monsters.
Kyokushin Karate.
How could this woman use it?
Lyra, struck in the solar plexus by a bone-crushing straight punch, coughed up blood and was sent flying, crashing into a ruined building.
And then—
“…No way?”
What she saw before losing consciousness was her mother’s posture.
That familiar stance, with the legs slightly inward and the punch not too strong, not too weak—just like when she had seen her mother secretly practicing her punches in the garden of the palace at dawn.
“Mom…?”
“I’m sorry, daughter. But I won’t let you die, so I’ll just tie you up for now.”
“La-Lyra!!”
“Ria. You did well.”
Thinking she could easily escape, Karune realized the seriousness of the situation as she looked at the fallen Lyra.
Now, it was time to change the plan.
*Whirr…*
*Whirrrrrr-!!*
“The spin…?”
“It’s gotten faster?”
“I won’t capture you anymore! I’ll just kill you, human.”
The spinning force created such intense winds that they formed an air current around Karune.
It was as if a living being had evolved into a natural disaster.
Shin-woo rushed forward and launched his charged punch toward his spinning daughter.
*Boom!*
However, sparks like metal clashing against metal burst between them.
“Urgh?!”
Judging that his skin and even bones would be shredded if this continued, Shin-woo quickly pulled back his bloodied fist.
But as if waiting for this moment—
“Now!!”
The spinning Karune instantly closed the gap, coming right up to Shin-woo’s face.
“Oppa!”
“Father!!”
Ria and Jae-won’s group, watching from afar, rushed out in alarm.
It looked incredibly dangerous.
In his current human form, Han Shin-woo could easily be turned into a lump of red meat.
If he got caught in that spinning wind, he’d be sliced apart like meat in a blender, leaving no trace of his body behind.
“It’s my victory! I’ll shred you to pieces!!”
Karune was confident of her victory.
As she locked onto the human caught in her vortex, she unleashed the full force of her rotation, creating dark clouds in the sky.
It was like a tornado born to destroy an entire village.
The speed of the wind around her continued to grow stronger, swallowing the debris of the nearby skyscrapers, intensifying even more.
But then—
*Boom!*
“Gah?!”
With one powerful punch from a blackened fist, the swirling clouds dissipated entirely, scattering without a trace.
The bright moonlight shone down on the ground below.
There, Karune, with the whites of her eyes visible, fell from the sky, her body limp. But just as she was about to hit the ground, she was caught by a hand—Shin-woo’s hand, which had now partially transformed into a monster.
Having finally succeeded in partial monsterification, Shin-woo quietly looked down at his unconscious daughters and murmured:
“I’m sorry, girls. Dad will explain everything to you later, step by step.”
