Chapter 74: Could you please Die? (5)

Geto was there.

He appeared calmly in the middle of the alley, his presence commanding the space.

"Stay still," he ordered, his smooth voice cutting through the tense atmosphere like a blade.

Panda froze, his eyes darting from Geto to Yuta, then to his companions. Maki gritted her teeth, her knuckles whitening around her weapon. Toge, standing back, observed Geto intently.

That's when a colossal shadow loomed above them. A massive black sphere descended from the sky, warping the air around it. It seemed to drain the light from everything nearby, an oppressive, incomprehensible entity.

"No one moves," Geto murmured, his eyes glowing with a malicious glint. "You move, you die."

The sphere was already consuming the buildings in its path. Walls twisted, windows imploded, and everything it touched was swallowed into an abyss of nothingness.

Maki shot a frantic glance at Panda, who clenched his jaw, his mind racing for a solution.

Geto crossed his arms and gestured dramatically toward the sphere. "Look at it. A masterpiece, isn't it?"

The sphere was mere feet away now, its immense gravity pulling debris from the ground and grinding it into dust before it vanished.

Geto narrowed his eyes slightly. "You can move now."

His smile widened—cruel, devoid of warmth. "And please… die."

The moment the words left his lips, Maki sprang into action, leading the group in a desperate escape.

The ground shook violently.

The sphere collided with an earsplitting roar, consuming everything in its wake. Buildings crumpled like paper, their foundations snapping before being obliterated. Streetlights exploded, raining sparks through the suffocating air.

The impact unleashed a monstrous shockwave, tearing through the area for hundreds of meters. Cars, street signs, and even trees were hurled like toys in a storm of chaos. A thick cloud of dust swallowed everything, reducing visibility to almost nothing.

Maki, Panda, and Toge, running at full speed, were thrown to the ground by the initial wave. Panda rolled to shield Yuta, while Maki clung to her weapon, her breath ragged. Toge raised a hand, murmuring just enough to summon an energy barrier that absorbed the worst of the second wave.

An eerie silence followed the initial blast. But it wasn't over.

A second, deeper tremor spread outward, splitting the ground open with massive fissures. Flames erupted in places where gas lines had ruptured. The sky, heavy with clouds, seemed to collapse inward, drawn toward the void created by the sphere.

The group scrambled to their feet and ran, weaving through the debris.

Behind them, the neighborhood was gone. In its place lay a massive, smoldering crater, radiating a sinister energy. The edges of the destruction faded into the dust, but even from a distance, it was horrifying: everything that had once been there no longer existed.

Maki paused briefly to catch her breath and glanced back. What she saw froze her blood. A void. A gaping abyss where nothing remained.

And at the edge of that emptiness stood a lone, slender figure, unmoving.

Geto.

He stared at them, the black sphere gleaming in his hand.

Then, a thin mist enveloped him, and he vanished.

"Damn it!" Maki cursed through clenched teeth.

Yuta's eyes snapped open, a scream caught in his throat.

"Rika!" he shouted, bolting upright, his breath ragged, his eyes darting wildly as if searching for someone—or something.

The room was pristine white, lit by a soft, artificial glow. He was lying on an operating table, surrounded by softly humming machines.

"Well, look who's finally awake," came a familiar, sardonic voice.

Yuta turned his head to see Gojo, casually leaning against the wall, his reflective sunglasses catching the light.

"Sensei…" Yuta murmured, his trembling hand massaging his throbbing temples. "What… what happened?"

Gojo crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow just above the edge of his shades. "You seriously don't remember anything?"

Yuta's heart skipped a beat as fragmented images flashed through his mind: the black sphere, the explosion, Geto… and Rika.

His eyes widened. "Rika! He stole Rika!"

Gojo's casual demeanor faltered slightly, his features tightening ever so subtly, though his composure remained.

"You did lose Rika," he confirmed quietly.

Yuta lowered his head, his fist clenching the sterile white sheet beneath him. "I couldn't protect her… I failed her."

He glanced at his left arm, expecting to see a stump. To his shock, his arm was still intact. Confused, he looked up at Gojo.

Gojo stepped forward, a faintly reassuring smile crossing his lips. He rested a light hand on Yuta's head, gently tousling his hair.

"Shoso did a remarkable job putting you back together," he explained. "But now, we need to fix what's in here." He tapped Yuta's chest lightly.

Yuta gritted his teeth.

Gojo, still smiling, gave Yuta's head one last affectionate pat. "You'll be fine, Yuta. Rest up. Your sensei will handle the rest, alright?"

Yuta closed his eyes, his fists trembling against the sheet. But then, an unexpected warmth settled on his shoulder.

Gojo was still there, smiling as always, but his gaze was sharper now—empathetic, almost solemn.

"I know it hurts, Yuta," he said gently. "But dwelling on it won't bring Rika back. What you need now is strength. Not just physical strength, but here." He tapped Yuta's forehead. "And here." He gestured toward Yuta's heart.

Yuta stared at him, determination flickering behind his tired eyes.

"This Geto," he murmured. "Who is he?"

For a fraction of a second, Gojo's smile faltered, but he quickly regained his usual demeanor.

"Geto Suguru…" he began, his tone heavier than usual. "He was once my best friend. A brilliant, charismatic sorcerer—an idealist. But his ideals led him down a dark path."

Yuta swallowed hard, the image of the man with the black sphere looming in his mind. "What does he want? Why did he take Rika?"

Gojo sighed, his fingers drumming thoughtfully against his arm. "Geto dreams of a world without non-sorcerers. He sees humans without cursed energy as nothing more than a hindrance—a weakness to our world. Rika…" He paused, his expression darkening. "Rika is a source of unmatched power. With her, he can realize his twisted ambitions."

Yuta clenched his fists, his jaw tightening with resolve.

Gojo studied him in silence for a moment, the faintest trace of a smile tugging at his lips. "Don't worry. We'll set things right."

"Sensei, I want to fight too!" Yuta said, his gaze burning with newfound determination.
