Chapter 233: Chapter 230: Conan: "I'll Eat My Glasses Right Here!"
Conan furrowed his brows, feeling that Fujino's reasoning made perfect sense.
If the perpetrator had truly anticipated the police's involvement, it was highly probable, as Fujino suggested, that there would be an ambush during the transaction. One individual would handle the exchange, while another would execute indiscriminate shooting.
In the event that their accomplice was caught during the transaction, the other might resort to threats, or worse, reckless shooting...
"Damn it! How did I not think of that?" Conan muttered to himself.
"But, Fujino," he interjected.
Inspector Megure turned his gaze toward Fujino. "If what you're saying is true, then we have no effective way to stop them..."
His eyes brimmed with hope, as though placing all his faith in this clever young man.
"There is a way," Fujino responded after a brief pause. "But I'll need your help, Inspector Megure."
"My help?"
Inspector Megure looked puzzled, while Conan raised his head, his curiosity piqued. He wondered what plan Fujino had to identify the two criminals.
"The shooting happened in the stadium's spectator stands," Fujino began, glancing toward the venue. "It's possible the stadium's broadcast cameras captured footage of the shooter in action."
"I see!" Megure exclaimed, realization dawning on him. "So, we just need to review the live broadcast tapes to identify one of the criminals, right?"
"However," Conan interjected, looking at Fujino, "the time left before the transaction is short. Reviewing all those tapes would be impossible for a normal person. Plus, there's a chance the footage didn't even capture the shooter."
"Do we have any other options?"
"I'll handle it myself," Fujino stated matter-of-factly.
"Wait! Are you saying you'll watch all those tapes by yourself, Fujino?" Megure was startled. "That's an enormous amount of work—even for you!"
"Whether I can or can't," Fujino chuckled softly, "we won't know unless we try."
For a moment, Megure felt as though he were seeing an old friend from long ago.
"Understood," he nodded, turning to Detective Sato. "Sato, assist Fujino."
"Yes, sir," Sato replied, stepping forward from the group of officers.
"I want to help too!" Conan chirped, bouncing up and down like an eager child.
"Conan..." Megure groaned, rubbing his temple as he turned to face the boy and his friends. His head throbbed at the thought of what these kids might stir up.
With a sigh, he turned back to Fujino. "What do you think, Fujino?"
"Let them come," Fujino replied knowingly, nodding in agreement. Allowing the kids to tag along might save him some trouble later.
---
Inside the Nippon TV broadcast van, Fujino sat in a chair, his gaze fixed on nine screens stacked in front of him. Behind him stood Conan, Haibara Ai, Detective Sato, and the broadcast crew.
The Detective Boys and Sato were glued to the replay footage displayed on the monitors.
"Double the speed," Fujino instructed calmly, raising his hand slightly.
The broadcast operator nodded, stepped up to the control panel, and adjusted the footage on all nine screens to play at twice the normal speed.
The match replay began to race by at double speed.
Resting his chin on his hand, Fujino watched in silence.
Before long, he gave another command. "Four times the speed."
"Four times?!" The operator hesitated, clearly surprised. "Are you sure that's okay?"
**Fujino:** "No problem."
"Alright."
They checked a flawless version at the library!
Since Fujino, the viewer, had already confirmed it, his role as the assistant compelled him to step forward and operate the system again, speeding up the playback to 4x speed.
"Faster... Never mind, I'll do it myself."
After a while, Fujino made a brief comment, then stood up and adjusted the playback speed to 16x.
In an instant, the screen's footage began to flash by at a speed imperceptible to the naked eye.
Fujino sat back down, resting his chin on one hand and pretending to be deep in thought.
**Conan:** "Can this guy actually see what's on the screen?"
Removing his glasses, Conan rubbed his eyes, feeling a wave of dizziness. "This is 16x speed! How could anyone possibly see anything clearly? Does this guy know some kind of time-stopping magic?"
**Haibara Ai** muttered in her usual solemn tone, "You're too impatient. Humans can't stop the passage of time. Those who forcefully distort it will ultimately face the consequences of time."
She turned to look at Fujino's back. "But if it's him... he might be able to do it."
**Conan:** "Huh?"
Already accustomed to Ai's cryptic remarks, Conan sighed in exasperation. "This is 16x speed! It's beyond the human eye's ability to capture detailed imagery."
He adjusted his glasses. "If Fujino can pull this off... I'll eat my glasses on the spot!"
Before he could finish speaking—
Fujino abruptly stood up from his seat in front of the screen. "It's Camera 13."
**Conan:** "???"
He froze for a few seconds, then turned to Fujino. "Did he actually see something?!"
**Sato Miwako:** "Camera 13?"
She asked in confusion. "What's wrong with Camera 13?"
**Fujino:** "In the footage, Camera 13 repeatedly captured someone who was completely covered up, head to toe. But whenever that figure was in the frame, the camera would immediately move away. If that person is one of the culprits, then the camera operator for Camera 13 must be their accomplice."
**Sato Miwako:** "As expected of you, Fujino-kun!"
She gave Fujino an approving glance before turning to the director. "Who's operating Camera 13?"
**Director:** "Camera 13? That's Hiruta!"
**Sato Miwako:** "Looks like he's the other accomplice."
She pulled out her phone and called Inspector Megure. "Inspector Megure, Fujino has identified the other accomplice!"
**Haibara Ai** smiled faintly, then turned to Conan. "Oh my, didn't someone just say they'd eat their glasses if Fujino could figure it out?"
Conan glanced down at his glasses in silence. "..."
Ai tilted her head innocently. "So, will you smash them into pieces first, or just eat them whole?"
Looking at the glasses in his hand, then at Fujino, Conan's face twisted into one of defeat.
"Damn it!"
