Hunter X Hunter - Reviewers Rage

Chapter 66: The Hero Togiri Could Be

"…I'm sorry… Fang…" The memory faded.

Togiri was left sitting on a bench near the pond, his hands once covered in blood now just part of a haunting flashback.

The remnants of his turbulent thoughts flickered through his mind like a fast-forwarded film, fragments intertwining with the reality of his solitude.

"Tetsura? System!" Togiri accessed his inventory, pulling out his wallet. He scrutinized it meticulously.

"The same! No, almost the same; his is newer, more robust. Dad gave me this wallet as a gift before leaving for the Hunter Exam.

How? That ability, that strength, those people… Kastriot, Fang, and.. To…giri? It doesn't make sense!"

Compelled to organize his swirling thoughts, Togiri retrieved a notebook and pen from his inventory and began to jot down:

• A guy named Togiri in another life (probably dead)

• Reincarnation cycles

• Ganf = Fang | Still brother and grew up together (probably dead)

• Tetsura my another life name

• SP - Special Pages (Cards that from my wallet)

• Black card - Strongest shining, Kastriot transformed by Tetsura into black armor

• Blue card - Reina, Blue Woman, transformed by Tetsura into a katana

• Red card - Asdo also transformed into a power up

• Tetsura super strong and hero like qualities, turned his friends into Special Cards?

He underlined 'Special Pages' repeatedly, then added another note beneath it, [Death unknown].

"Why this memory? All the others were just me grieving my family or enduring short moments of brutal torture before my death.

I thought this time I would see the culprit who tormented the other me's and my families, but it was an old Fang and I- no, Tetsura won"

Togiri's head sank into his hands, overwhelmed. 'So my other self was aware of the reincarnations? He knew more than I do?

He transformed his friends into cards and objects and had a falling out with Fang. Why? And how was he still so damn happy?

Fang looked like he was in his thirties or even forties if Ten didn't play role, then that means Tetsura was the same age, especially since they lived together like Fang and me do.

Did Tetsura achieve peace in those couple decades or didn't he have the memories I do?'

The realization was suffocating. 'I sealed two-thirds of those memories, and the other me's didn't have a system to do that. How does he know things I don't, and how could he still smile so brightly?

I felt it, the hope, the light burden, the carefree mind as if he was in the middle of a sunflower field.'

His heart darkened with resentment. 'Is he that much better than me? Did the god I met lie? But why would he? Just to mess with me?'

With resolve, Togiri commanded, "System, activate Seven." A mechanical voice responded directly into his mind. [Activating Seven... Activation complete]

@-T DON'T PUT ME TO SLEE-... you bastard did it again@ Seven's frustration was palpable.

"Seven, no time for arguments. Search my memories for these terms: Tetsura, Kastriot, Reina, Asdo, Ganf, Fang, Special Pages, reincarnation cycle."

@Hm~ alright, but you owe me one.@ Seven's tone was reluctantly cooperative.

"Sure, as long as I don't need to spend points," Togiri snapped back.

@Deal!@ Seven's consent came with an air of satisfaction.

30 Minutes Later

As Togiri mulled over his notes, Seven shattered the silence. @I've scanned all unsealed memories. There's only one other life where these terms appear together. Should I send the memory to you?@

"If it is about a battle in on a snowy mountain then forget it. What about the sealed ones?" Togiri pressed, urgency lacing his tone.

@Yes, it was on a snow covered mountain. The other memories? I can't access those. They're completely locked away, untouched even by me unless you decide to unseal them.@

The temptation to say, 'System, unseal all my memories,' was strong, but Togiri knew his mind couldn't bear the torrent of billions of memories.

"Why can I recall Tetsura's memories specifically at his death?" he questioned aloud, frustration mounting as bystanders steered clear of his intense demeanor.

@It's likely because Tetsura chose to seal them, anticipating their removal by higher powers. I'm unsure of your personality before creating me and the system, but it seems Tetsura was what you were meant to evolve into—a true protagonist, a hero.@ Seven's naive sincerity stung Togiri.

Standing, he faced the pond with a mask of indifference. 'Protagonist? Hero? Don't make me laugh. I was a delusional fool. I loathe the idiot I was.'

@...brooding and thinking of the past again? I see that nothing changed while I was asleep. What does Fang always say when you're this down on yourself?@ Seven prodded.

'Sleep,' Togiri recalled with a sigh, @Yes, let's go. I don't know how long I was sleeping for, but I want to continue reading [Sun Ken Rock]. Park Mu-jik you genius! I came for the action, but stayed for the friendship. Whooo!@ yelled Seven excited.

While Togiri appeared depressed, Seven knew better. Beneath the surface, the desire for revenge burned fiercer than any wish for death.

Togiri couldn't betray the countless lives lost; he had to persevere even if it was harder than scaling an overhanging cliff without a rope.

@The sun's setting; let's get dinner. While we are on the topic of spending, how about you let me borrow some EP? Just a million would be enough@ Seven suggested sneakily. Like usually Seven's most important person to look out for is himself.

'Shut it. We'll discuss your million Existence Points after the tournament. Nothing perverse for the favour I owe.' Togiri grumbled, just as Kuroha's voice reached him across the park.

"Togiri-kun~!" Her voice was a beacon in his tumultuous thoughts. Turning around, he saw her approaching, a winged Shiba Inu fluttering beside her—an unusual sight that only added to the surreal day.

"Like I told you, he's just a friend," Kuroha explained to her peculiar companion, while Seven mocked, @Friendzoned already? Seems you'll never be a real man, Master@

'System turn off Seven in 5 seconds.' @I WAS JOKING!@ [Turning off Seven in 5. 4.] @PLEASE!@ Seven yelled begging

[3. 2-] 'Cancel command' [Command cancelled] @uff, that was close. If had a body I would be sweating right now@ 'I was also joking' a slight chuckle escaped Togiri's lips.

Kuroha finally reached him after running for an hour. He flying shiba inu wasn't the most accurate navigation. Kuroha ran through many alleys and half the town before she finally found Togiri.

Panting and concerned Kuroha asked what was on her mind the last few hours "Togiri-kun, how—" She paused, looking at his face, more precisely his eyes.

'the darkness... seems gone. No, lighter,' she analyzed. She was puzzled yet relieved by the subtle shift in the presence he emitted compared to the chaotic dead feeling he radiated when he left the mall.

"Nothing, I just needed some air" Togiri interrupted her worried scrutiny, his voice firm yet tired. "Let's go."

As they walked, the distance between who Togiri was and who he could be seemed to narrow, framed by the forgiving hues of the sunset.

At first Kuroha's presence was nothing more than an annoyance but now he strangely found her company reassuring and comforting.

"Togiri-kun, where are we headed?" Kuroha inquired, her curiosity piqued by his renewed vigor.

"Training. I've had some inspiration," Togiri responded, his mind already racing ahead to the possibilities that lay in harnessing a power akin to Tetsura's—a future where he might wield his Nen not just for survival and dominance of the small aspects in life he could control, but for something greater.

As they walked, Togiri's thoughts spiraled deeper into the realm of what could be.

The notion of 'something greater' was a vast, uncharted expanse that excited and terrified him in equal measure.

It wasn't just about strength or power—it was about purpose. Could he, Togiri, who had known nothing but pain and revenge, aspire to be a hero like the Tetsura of his sealed memories?

The air around them seemed to pulse with the latent potential of his awakening understanding. Each step felt heavier, laden with the weight of his burgeoning resolve.

This wasn't just a path to power; it was a journey towards redemption—not just for himself, but perhaps for all those lives entangled with his through fate's capricious weave, but Togiri didn't care for it, at least not for now. He currently only seeked power, power above all.

"Why are we training?" Kuroha inquired, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and concern. She sensed the shift in him, the tightening of his resolve like a bowstring pulled taut.

"To shape something new from the chaos of the past," Togiri said, his voice steady yet distant, as if he were speaking from far away.

Kuroha asked with a curious look on her face "What? are you trying to become a hero or something?"

Togiri scoffed. "Nah, I'm gonna do my own thing. I just had... what you call it, an awakening.

Kuroha watched him, her eyes reflecting the light of the sunlight hitting her. She knew the battles he fought were not just against external foes but waged deeply within the recesses of his troubled psyche.

@Stupid Master, what are you thinking? You have been blocking me out from your thoughts, again.@

'Another me from this world called Tetsura had a similar, but vastly stronger Nen ability than me. Remember when I created my Nen ability?

I spent three months thinking and training in isolation just to create a mediocre ability. Phantom Pages were my initial idea.

I thought since in the past I read so many novels and now I read various books that it would be a fitting ability. A one man army fighting against organisations and nations, but I was wrong.

When I reawakened my Nen with the pill from the system, my Hatsu mastery was merely at 3%. I don't know if this was my initial mastery of awakening Nen or the mastery I previously had.

Over time, my mastery quickly surpassed my previous proficiency over Nen, but my Hatsu was still under 10 percent.

I think my talent is around average or worse and nowhere close Gon, but every time my body cultivation breaks through a realm, my talent increases.

I can feel my talent increasing. Nen just feels more comfortable to use then before. I don't know if my body simply is transforming into the physique of an immortal super human or it is becoming more suitable for energy control.

When my body improves so does my Nen, when my Nen improves so does my body.

My Nen affects my cultivation and my cultivation affects my body, but that doesn't matter now.'

Unbeknownst to Togiri this strange phenomenon had a big mistery behind it. One day this secret would be brought to light from the person he least excepted.

Togiri looked over his system functions as he walked slowly beside Kuroha. 'Seven, how many Existence Points do I need to unlock the Karma function of the system?'

He often wondered why the Karma function of the system was locked unlike the others, but one hand to unlock the tutorial function costed an astronomical amount of points.

Unlike other obvious system functions protagonists had, Togiri either unlocked with time, bought them or directly asked for them and then bought them. The system was hungry for points.

It syphoned a part of every point Togiri gained to increase it's strength, but he still needed to sacrifice again and again for the bare minimum.

Just a few things to be mentioned would be, the title function, enemy search function, bigger inventory, not to mention the system update which costed him all his Aura and physical strength accumulated from five years of effort.

Even the simplest item such as stone from the Shop costed points. The system was immensely large and almost every function you would want could be found.

Death bonus system, time manipulation system, world traveling system, gacha system, check in system, multi dimensional store system, otherworldy disease prevention system and enslavement system just to mention a few.

Most were restricted for unknown reasons and the slightly useful ones that weren't costed enough Existence Points that could directly make Togiri the strongest creature on this planet.

A simple function like adding a clock and alarm to the system costs several hundred Existence Points, who in their right mind would spend such an amount on trivial things.

Previously, unlocking the title system costed 100 thousand Existence Points for a minimal gain with his current title. It increased 5 percent of the SP Togiri earned when killing an evil entity.

The 100 thousand Existence Points could have been converted at a ratio of 10 to 1 to Shop Points, which equals one million Shop Points.

He deeply regretted wasting millions on raising something stupid like Nen Category Affinity that didn't even make that much of a difference with his meager talent.

Without slight difference in affinity like increased affinity in Enhancement wouldn't have changed any of his fights.

His previously wasted 1 million Shop Points still stung in his heart. That amount of pills he could have bought could have changed a whole nation's military power.

The System was lacking in several departments, but the Reviewer System was truly on its way to the top with its abilities to make Togiri rise quickly in power.

Togiri surpassed his five years of training in less than the time he spent living on the streets when he first arrived, but it still frustrated him that he had to pay for everything while main characters from novel were wiping their butt with op functions.

@Unlocking the Karma function costs 1 million EP, the syphoned Points from you by the system have been poured into there. I don't know what it does, but it's costly, very costly. Does Master want to unlock it?@

Togiri looked beside him at Kuroha and thought, 'No. Not yet.'
