How To Survive A Calamity

Chapter 139: Dark Castle [6]

Chelsea woke up to an insanely loud sound like an exploding drum.

-BOOM!

She felt a gale pressure of air, a powerful shockwave scatter over her head and ruffled her bright orange hair all over the place. Explore hidden tales at My Virtual Library Empire

"Wh..."

Before she could regain any sort of reason or balance, she was immediately ruthlessly tackled to the ground by someone.

"Down!" A voice yelled sharply.

Chelsea's world spun around and blurred, then she felt a second wave of wind pressure explode around and sweep past the area she had just been in a second ago, barely missing her by a breadth.

-Boom!

The oranges haired girl tumbled against the ground and rilled, feeling tye wind get knocked out of her lungs in the process. A small moment of shock ran through her body, and her blurry vision cleared sharply.

"What the..." Chelsea Harper woke up feeling especially disoriented.

There was an incessant loud ringing inside her ears and her head was throbbing in dull pangs that made the rest of the world seem distant and detached.

"...u...p!!"

--Xui!! —Bam!!

"...up!"

She heard the sounds of screams and voices, struggling to properly make them out. There was the distinct and piercing sound of a sharp whistle, the one reminiscent of something swift tearing through the air at high speeds, then the rocking aftermaths of an explosion.

The loudest sounds she heard often followed with the ground surface underneath her trembling, and even sometimes, outright shattering into pieces.

Chelsea held her throbbing head, feeling her skin prickle from a sizzling heat. The air was buzzing with electric action as some considerable event was currently unraveling within her surroundings.

Then all of a sudden, Chelsea felt a sudden pull against the back of her collar, and the next thing, the young girl was ruthlessly being dragged backwards.

Then, she heard a biting sharp, familiar voice yell and snap at her from In front.

"Hey, get a grip and wake up!"

"H-huh...?" Chelsea blinked, disorientedly.

"T...Trise?"

Indeed.

The grim figure of the short haired Trise appeared before her vision, running off somewhere with her sword unsheathed.

Her hair was all over the place and her appearance betrayed a story of having been through a lot.

—Xui!!

Yet, once more, before Chelsea could form a sentence, another tremor broke through the vicinity.

It was then that Chelsea realised some kind of confrontation was currently unraveling.

Debris of rocks and pieces fell from the ceiling, and broad cracks snaked across the shattered ground, drawing webs and patterns.

"Trise, what's going?!" Chelsea Harper forcefully snapped out of her reverie, ignored the dull pangs of pain and confusion in her head, and said

She could still feel the tight, iron-like grip of Trise on her wrist as she was involuntarily pulled away.

The short dark haired Trise gritted her teeth and snapped back.

"Finally, you're awake! We're trying to survive here!"

"What are you—!!"

Before Chelsea could finish, something flew across Infront of her at a stunning speed and smashed into a wall. The solid surface shattered and broke, as the figure of a person embedded deep inside was revealed.

"Ughk...!"

It was a person, a male cadet with full snow white hair and white skin, cold, icy blue eyes that were as deep as a ghostly lake.

He smashed into the wall with both his hands crossed forward before him as a final measure of defense. Yet, his face was marred with pain and discomfort, a small trickle of blood fell from the edge of his lips.

As soon as Trise saw this, she froze and snapped.

"Hey! Are you okay?"

The male youth who was also a cadet managed to move his body out of the wall and nodded grimly.

"Yeah, I'm okay. He said, then slowly trailed off as he turned to look forward.

"But..."

Trise did too, and prompted, Chelsea followed their gaze.

She turned towards the same direction everyone seemed to look at and held her breath.

Chelsea froze on the spot and her eyes widened in shock and horror.

"I don't think we can win alone." A fourth and different voice suddenly said from behind.

Chelsea turned to see the figure of a male cadet with swept back creamish blonde hair and slanted gold eyes stepped out of the dark smoke and dust clouds scattered all over the place.

His light blonde hair which had been neatly organised had been partially ruffled, wet with sweat and blood. They stuck to his bleeding face, clinging like extra layers of skin.

Parts of his uniform was tattered and covered with cuts. Underneath them, he had bruised skin covered in dirt and dust.

Feeling the intensity of Chelsea's gaze, the male cadet wiped the small blood which flowed from a bleeding cut in his forehead and limped forward, his expression solemn and indiscernible as he exhaled a small breath.

He stood next to the white haired male cadet, placing one hand against his shoulder, leaning on him for support.

"That's not something we can take alone in our current state." His voice came out almost hoarsely and the implications of the words made the white haired cadet to frown.

The blonde cadet noticed this and gave a wry smile. He turned away and looked forward.

"As expected of the King of the Desert. It can't be that easy."

A massive creature made of pounds of flesh and thick scales which tore through the air at almost a height of one hundred meters, loomed before the Cadets.

...

It had rough sharp scales as hard as the toughest armor resistant to most types of magic and physical attack. And a cone shaped mouth crowned its head, masking spiraling rows of diabolical teeth.

There were marks of battles and attacks scattered across the nearly impenetrable scale armour of the Sand Worm, but the diabolical Monster was still wholly unscathed nonetheless.

Chelsea's eyes trembled in shock and her throat moved, gulping down saliva.

"Wh-what is that doing here? I thought we managed to lose it before?"

"Yeah, well that was three days ago. And haven't you exactly noticed yet, where even is 'here'?" Trise venomously bit back in annoyance and exasperation, gripping her swird tightly until her knuckles were almost white.

"Trise, take it easy on her. She just woke up, remember? Chelsea must be more confused than anyone right now."

The one who said such gentle words was the blonde cadet.

Trise glanced at him, scrunched up her face and reluctantly looked away, feeling embarrassed and peeved for whatever reason.

At the same time, Chelsea followed the figure of the blonde cadet with her gaze and blinked in shock and suprise.

"Huh? What are you talking about? H-hold on, aren't you..."

The cadet raised his palm slightly with a smile, interrupting her gently.

He smiled softly at her and said.

"I'll explain everything to you shortly. For now, we have to retreat as fast we can."

He turned and clenched one fist. His thin eyes narrowed resolutely.

"You guys go on ahead, first. I'll hold the King back for a while."

"What?! There's no way I'm leaving you behind! What do you mean you'll hold it back, you just said we can't defeat that thing on our own in our current state!" The white haired cadet immediately snapped back, refuting the blond boy's words.

The cadet with narrow gold eyes side glanced at him and walked forward slightly.

"It's fine, Alexander. I can't take that thing on alone, so I'm not planning too. I'll just hold it back long enough to buy enough time for us to get as far away as possible and regroup. I'll catch up with you guys quickly, i can't die in here." He flashed a cocky and reassuring smile.

"Even sti—"

"Alex, this isn't the time. I need you to be the one to go with the girls. I'll only pull up the rear, I'm right behind you. Go. Now." Before Alexander could say anything, the blonde boy asserted without room for complaints.

Meanwhile, Chelsea watched the exchange between the two, her confusion increasingly growing further.

How had she ended uo with these people?

"Ah, fine. Whatever. Chelsea, let's go!"

"Huh? Oh, uh, yeah...?"

Trise, impatiently grabbed Chelsea's wrist and pulled her along as she immediately bolted towards an opposite direction for an exit.

Alex exhaled a tired sigh and reluctantly nodded, not fully convinced.

"Fine. Thank you." Leaving those words behind, he turned after the girls and followed their figures.

The blonde boy was finally left alone facing the overwhelming monster.

He flashed an indescribable smile at Alex's figure as it grew distant and uttered in a small voice only he could hear.

"No problem."

He turned fully to face the giant Sand Worm, a remnant fragment of a lost forgotten specie. The King Of the Desert was coiling round a tall column pillar, writhing around it, ready to lunge forward at any moment.

"Now then."

The blonde cadet — Xavier Locke smiled darkly.

He raised both hands forward and spread his palms.

Xavier stared at the writhing Sand Worm as his narrow eyes widened and flashed with ruthlessness.

His lips parted.

"Bow!"

Suddenly, four large black spears like twisting points of darkness appeared around the giant Worm.

In the following second, a loud sound of collision exploded through the dark hallways.
