Chapter 144: Revived Merriment in the Ruins
Being jolted awake from sleep, whether it was a sweet dream or a nightmare, always left people feeling slightly off.
In normal times, Yun Feng's bellow would have been met with groans and complaints at the very least.
But these were the end times, an era ravaged by the Honkai.
The pain of the recent disaster still lingered, and the sudden shock had worn down everyone's sharp edges, leaving them to listlessly raise their heads, staring blankly at Yun Feng who stood on high, barely concealing his excitement.
Seeing it was Yun Feng, the crowd's expressions softened.
Many of the people here had been brought out from the ruins and cramped spaces by Yun Feng and his group; he was practically their savior.
Still, many held onto their confusion. Yun Feng had never woken them up this early before, and the look on his face…
Puzzled, they glanced around, and it wasn't long before someone spotted Kiana and the others standing nearby.
Instantly, a gasp went through the crowd.
Wasn't that a member of "Fire Moth"?! They were back?
Did this mean the Honkai Beast that had been plaguing them for so long had been dealt with by "Fire Moth"?
Were they finally safe?!
Sleepiness vanished in an instant. It started with one person, then spread like wildfire – the survivors, barely awake, erupted in a thunderous cheer that shook the early morning air.
Someone who hadn't been woken by Yun Feng: "What's all the racket so early in the morning! You lot are…"
"What? That monster outside is gone?! Really?"
"Whoa! Fire Moth is amazing!"
"Amazing!!"
At the heart of the cheering, the three "heroes" who had defeated the Honkai Beast looked on in slight astonishment at the yelling, laughing, crying, and wildly celebrating crowd.
"What… why are they so excited?" Kiana covered her ears, her enhanced hearing making the sudden outburst of cheers almost painful.
But a strange, indefinable sense of fulfillment was also blossoming in her heart.
Was this… what it felt like to be a hero?
Kiana stared blankly at the almost frenzied crowd, lost in thought.
Of course, Kiana wasn't the only one lost in thought. Mei and Bronya were just as taken aback.
Yun Feng stood on high, looking down at the crowd below. For a moment, his eyes seemed to lose focus.
How long had it been since he'd experienced such lively merriment?
As the heir to his family, from the moment he chose to shoulder the burden meant for his sister, he was destined to walk a solitary path.
Chen Shicheng was his rival in his journey of growth, forever the "second place" under his shadow. And his relationship with his sister had fractured, leaving them with little meaningful interaction.
Yet, he always wore a friendly, approachable smile.
He longed for people to approach him because of that smile, to engage with him, even to… welcome him into their circle, instead of him standing aloof and isolated, watching people become reserved and distant in his presence.
He still craved liveliness.
That's why he went to every single one of Yun Mengxi's performances, buying a ticket that wasn't in the front rows, blending in with Yun Mengxi's fervent fans, joining in their wild cheers, indulging himself.
It was precisely because of this that he had argued so passionately with Yun Mengxi when she told him she wanted to quit, even escalating into a major fight in the end.
Yun Feng was nostalgic for the past.
When was the last time he had seen such a scene?
Probably right before the Honkai descended… just before the fans were settled in the venue, and Yun Mengxi had yet to take the stage.
Snapping out of his reverie, Yun Feng clenched his fist tightly and brought it to his mouth, coughing loudly twice.
"This isn't the place for you to cheer, and now isn't the time for us to celebrate. We are not out of danger yet." Though reluctant, Yun Feng still poured cold water on everyone's enthusiasm.
As expected, the cheers quickly subsided, though the excitement still lingered in their hearts, emboldening many.
"What other danger is there?" A college student, encouraged by nods from a few peers, raised his hand high in the crowd.
"The problem is very serious." Yun Feng's face turned grim. "The good news is, the Honkai Beast around us has been eliminated. The bad news is, an even larger and more dangerous Honkai Beast has appeared nearby."
The college student's raised hand instantly retracted.
Silence fell over the crowd, many glancing at the college student who had "caused trouble," their expressions a complex mix of emotions.
"But!" Yun Feng emphasized the word, drawing everyone's attention back, "There's also good news! And that's that the captain of Fire Moth is incredibly strong! Strong enough to easily defeat that monster!
"And their battlefield is too close to us, so the captain has held back, merely containing that Honkai Beast for us. Once we're completely evacuated, he will strike immediately and eliminate that Honkai Beast!"
Yun Feng's words hung in the air, met with silence.
Kiana's eyes were wide.
Shu could easily defeat that Honkai Imperator?!
When did that happen? How come she didn't know? Was she already outdated?!
"Mei…" Kiana gestured wildly in the air, unable to articulate the strangeness she felt, turning to Mei for help.
Mei smiled wryly, reaching out to pat Kiana's head. "Believe in Shu, maybe… it really is like that?"
Kiana nodded, retracting her gaze. "Is that so… Shu is actually that amazing…"
Then, Kiana puffed out her chest, stepping forward to stand before the now silent crowd, and declared loudly.
"That's right! Our captain is super, super strong!!"
"Really?" It was the same college student, looking at Kiana and the others, who were clearly younger than him, with extreme uncertainty. This "experienced" college student looked utterly unconvinced.
"Really!" Kiana nodded forcefully, looking like she'd punch anyone who dared to question her.
The crowd's gazes shifted to Mei and Bronya beside Kiana.
Mei maintained a graceful smile, nodding to the crowd.
Bronya remained expressionless, but also nodded in response to the crowd's scrutiny.
After a moment of stillness, an even more thunderous cheer than before erupted.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Shu, who had just gotten into the car, ready to depart, suddenly froze, instinctively raising his hand to look at his palm.
In that moment, he felt incredibly powerful…
Powerful to the point of… almost ten times stronger than before!!
