Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Setting the Forest Ablaze
The sudden turn of events seemed to catch everyone off guard, creating an eerie tension at the scene.
"Ah!!!"
After several seconds, the wizard hunter, his face covered in blood, seemed to finally comprehend what had just happened. He let out a howl of pain, falling to his knees. Desperately, he used his left hand to pick up his severed finger and wand from the ground.
Looking up with pure hatred in his eyes, he glared at Wentworth. That icy stare sent a shiver down Wentworth's spine.
"Levicorpus!"
Without hesitation, Wentworth flicked his wand, and the wizard hunter was hoisted into the air, hanging upside down from a tree branch.
"Your glare is too terrifying—I really don't want to see it anymore!" Wentworth said, shaking his head as he held his wand in hand.
Meanwhile, the cloaked wizard hunter muttered a curse under his breath and turned to the bald hunter beside him.
"You, take his position. No matter what, we must bring this boy down!"
The bald hunter nodded immediately and moved toward Wentworth.
Hearing their exchange, Wentworth gritted his teeth and shouted, "Headmaster Dumbledore, don't you have any backup plans? I'm completely out of magic! Not a single drop left!"
At this, Dumbledore chuckled and turned with a smile.
"Oh, yes, I just remembered a spell that might suit this situation perfectly. My age must be catching up with me—I can't believe I forgot it earlier."
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes at his headmaster, Wentworth, utterly exhausted, collapsed onto the ground in a heap.
By now, the bald wizard hunter had pointed his wand at Wentworth. Dumbledore, however, did not hesitate any longer.
He raised his wand high above his head, drawing deliberate circles in the air.
As Dumbledore moved, flames erupted from his wand, forming a massive ring of fire around him and Wentworth.
The ring expanded rapidly as Dumbledore continued his movements, spiraling outward at an astonishing pace.
Under the night sky, the roaring flames reflected in the eyes of everyone present, illuminating their faces in a fiery glow.
"Fiery Spiral...?"
Wentworth murmured in disbelief as the spiraling flames encircled him, growing ever larger.
The wizard hunters surrounding them were equally stunned, their faces a mix of awe and dread. Despite the cloaked leader's commands, their spells couldn't penetrate the wall of flames.
Any spell that entered the inferno was instantly consumed by the fire, leaving Dumbledore and Wentworth untouched.
Seeing their efforts fail and the relentless expansion of the fire, some wizard hunters finally succumbed to fear. Turning away, they fled into the forest.
Once one hunter broke rank, the others quickly followed, scattering in all directions.
"Boss, we need to go too!"
The bald hunter hurried to the cloaked leader's side, speaking urgently.
"Go!"
With one last venomous glance at the blazing center where Dumbledore and Wentworth stood, the cloaked hunter turned and ran with his companion.
Inside the circle of fire, Wentworth turned to Dumbledore, curiosity evident on his face.
"Headmaster, what's that spell called? Fiendfyre?"
Dumbledore blinked in surprise and replied, "Oh, Wentworth, I didn't expect you to know about Fiendfyre! But remember, Fiendfyre is dark magic—it must never be used recklessly, especially in the wild. It could cause unimaginable chaos!"
"As for this spell, it's merely a simple Incendio, though I did channel a bit more magic than usual, hence the result."
Hearing this, Wentworth's mouth twitched. A spell of this magnitude... and you're telling me it's just Incendio?
I thought you were finally pulling out a big move, and it turns out this is just your 'basic attack'?
But seeing the sincerity in Dumbledore's expression, Wentworth could only sigh internally. Perhaps, for someone of Dumbledore's caliber, even a basic attack was the ultimate show of respect for his opponents.
"Headmaster, do you think they'll escape?"
Wentworth watched the retreating figures of the wizard hunters disappearing into the moonlit forest.
Dumbledore replied thoughtfully, "That depends on the range of the Anti-Disapparition Jinx they've set up. If it's not too large, they might make it to a place where they can Disapparate. Otherwise, outrunning a forest fire on foot is no easy feat."
Wentworth glanced at Dumbledore, his expression turning peculiar. "Headmaster, is it really okay for you to start such a massive fire? Isn't this... well, a bit too destructive to the environment? A fire this size will be almost impossible to extinguish, won't it?"
Dumbledore patted Wentworth's head with a kind smile.
"I'm pleased that you're still thinking about the environment in a moment like this, Wentworth. Don't worry—the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes at the Ministry of Magic will arrive soon enough. They'll take care of it."
Hearing this, Wentworth was once again reminded of Dumbledore's unparalleled authority and influence. Any other wizard would likely be on the run, avoiding capture by Aurors for such destruction.
But Dumbledore? He was calmly waiting for the Ministry to clean up after him. No wonder Cornelius Fudge had been so paranoid in his later years, even resorting to publicly smearing Dumbledore's name.
With the headmaster's level of respect and prestige, Fudge couldn't even hope to compete.
"Now then," Dumbledore said suddenly, "let's figure out what led to all this."
