Chapter 64
“What’s going on?”
Director Jeong Chan-Young’s eyes widened as he lowered his gaze to Lee Joon’s cellphone.
“Huh!”
Meow meow.
As the director stared intently at the video with only the sounds of cats occasionally meowing, everyone’s curiosity was piqued.
“What is it? Is it a scene of cats playing at Evergreen Park?”
“Oh, I guess so.”
“Yeah. They play well in the park.”
“Then, you could get a few cuts of them playing in the park.”
As the crew spoke, the lighting director, relieved, walked over to where Lee Joon and Director Jeong were standing.
“But what are you looking at so seriously? Let me see too.”
The lighting director, craning his neck to look at the phone over the director who had no intention of budging, exclaimed in surprise.
“Gosh! What’s this?”
“What is it?”
This time, a crew member nearby squeezed in.
By then, the video had ended.
“Director, please show us once more.”
Jeong pleaded with a face desperate for curiosity relief as he asked Lee Joon.
“Alright.”
Lee Joon handed the phone to Director Jeong.
The lighting director and several crew members nearby watched as the video replayed.
“Where is this?”
“Is it the sea?”
“Is this edited?”
“Looks like it’s edited since park cats are there, but whoever did it, did a fantastic job.”
Initially surprised, the crew quickly realized the reality and spoke up one by one.
“Who called this edited?”
Director Jeong finally asked in a low voice after staring at the phone screen.
A crew member, mistaking it for a compliment, responded brightly.
“Me.”
A crew member even giggled, causing Director Jeong to take a deep breath.
While he really wanted to say, ‘I ought to gouge out those eyes’, he swallowed back the harsh words given the presence of a guest and said quietly instead.
“Don’t go around saying you’re under me, alright?”
“Pardon?”
“How can you not tell the sunlight at the beach from the sunlight in the city?”
The lighting director added a word.
“Oh, wasn’t it edited?”
“Indeed, it wasn’t, you fool!”
“Then did they really shoot at the beach?”
“No way.”
Again, the crew chimed in one by one.
“Exactly my point.”
Director Jeong let out a long sigh and looked at Lee Joon.
“Director, this looks like the East Sea no matter how I see it. How is this possible? Did you really take all the cats with you? These are park cats, right?”
“Yes, they are. As expected from the director, you guessed it right away.”
“Did you shoot this video yourself?”
The visual quality was excellent, albeit the subjects didn’t appear very realistic.
“No way. I can’t shoot like that. My friend Gwak Soo-ho shot it.”
What Lee Joon showed was the video Gwak Soo-ho had sent last night saying it would be uploaded on Monday.
‘He did mention celebrating getting free from editing hell and asked for a drink.’
But when Lee Joon turned him down due to the shoot today, Gwak Soo-ho threw a fit.
‘Have to have a drink with him sometime soon, having only managed to calm the wild guy down by delivering chicken and beer.’
Lee Joon, summing up his thoughts about Gwak Soo-ho, nodded his head.
“He said it’s going up tomorrow, so I thought it would be okay to show you.”
“Really? Is this going on Gwak Soo-ho’s channel?”
“Yes, a few pieces are going up in the beach series.”
“Wowowow!”
“Amazing, absolutely amazing.”
“Oh my God.”
As the loud voices erupted, Gray one and Kkamnyang meowed in annoyance.
“Oh, oops. Sorry, kids.”
The studio finally quieted down.
Director Jeong asked Lee Joon about the situation.
“You’ll understand when you see it later. Anyway, this is the East Sea, and these are indeed Gray one, Kkamnyang, and the park cats.”
In explaining briefly, Lee Joon summed up the situation.
“I’m impressed. Does this mean the whole video is there?”
“Soo-ho probably has it. And as I mentioned before, unless it’s a dangerous situation, they can pull off any direction you give them.”
Lee Joon added, smiling.
“These cats are ready to risk themselves for their companions. Oh, there’s also something like this.”
Lee Joon, wishing to broaden the director’s perspective, showed a video of the cats playing with marine animals.
This too was a 15-second trailer video that Gwak Soo-ho had prepared.
In it, Gray one and Kkamnyang were seen sorrowfully hugging a seal with a plastic ring around its neck, causing it to struggle holding its head upright.
As soon as the ring was removed, the seal beamed brightly, looking even more delighted seeing the cats grinning more prominently.
“Goodness! What is this now?”
“You’ll see later. Anyway, there’s also this kind of thing.”
“Watching this fills me with creative enthusiasm.”
Director Jeong, excited, looked at Manager Gong and continued.
“Manager Gong, you’ve done an outstanding job. This CF might turn out to be one of the top masterpieces of my career. Hahaha.”
“What have I even done? It’s all thanks to Team Leader Park.”
However, his ears could not catch Gong’s words as Director Jeong was already deeply lost in his creative visions.
“That’s right.”
Director Jeong began to murmur to himself and jot things down on a blank sheet, busying himself as he moved around.
Seeing the director like that, Manager Gong offered an apologetic look at Lee Joon.
“We shouldn’t keep them waiting like this… Sorry, the director’s quite out of it.”
“No problem. Seems like he has some good ideas, I’ll wait. Anyway, there’s no schedule for today.”
“In that case, would you like to wait in the waiting room?”
“Sure.”
Still wearing an apologetic expression, Manager Gong guided Lee Joon and the cats to the waiting room.
Then, as Director Jeong scribbled furiously, he shouted as the Lee Joon group began to move.
“It’d be better to stay on site!”
Coming closer to the group, director Jeong spoke again.
“Today, let’s just shoot the usual taste evaluation video and set a day to shoot a new one. Director, could I ask you again?”
Director Jeong shot a pleading gaze towards Lee Joon, hoping for a favorable response.
“Just a moment. Let me ask them.”
Lee Joon spoke to the cats perched on his shoulder.
“Hey guys, would you be okay to come to a foreign place again? They say they’ll give us lots of delicious things.”
『We’ll come!』
『If we get lots, we’ll come.』
Lee Joon passed the cats’ response to the director.
“Is that true?”
“Yes, but you must give plenty of treats or food. Animals don’t understand empty promises.”
“Of course. We’ll definitely provide that.”
Beside them, Manager Gong replied, and addressed the cats.
“Nuna will give you lots of your favorite treats.”
『Thanks!』
『Thank you.』
The cats leapt onto Gong’s shoulder beside Lee Joon, rubbing their faces affectionately.
“Wow, manager, you’re so lucky.”
“Honestly! I wanted to hug Gray one.”
“I want Kkamnyang!”
“I want to hug both.”
As Lee Joon relayed people’s words, Gray one simply replied.
『Get in line!』
***
Thirty minutes later, the cats entered the shooting site.
In front of them were large tubs filled with treats.
The tubs, as big as a typical household bathtub, were large enough for the cats.
Painted in orange, red, yellow, and blue, each tub was filled with treats in similarly colored pouches.
The scent from the treats filling the room wafted into the cats’ noses.
Twitch, twitch,
The splendid whiskers of the cats twitched.
Next, their pink noses fluttered.
『Smells so delicious!』
『The smell is appetizing.』
The cats slowly moved forward, sniffing the scents thoroughly.
The first stop was the blue tub.
『It tasted great!』
Gray one recalled the taste of the treats in the blue pouch he had tasted at the Woof Woof Animal Clinic and licked his lips.
『The vet said we can eat whatever we want.』
『He did indeed.』
With a leap, Gray one jumped onto the box.
Crash.
As the treats tumbled down, Gray one relaxedly enjoyed the collapse of the treat mountain, holding a treat in his mouth and running around like a cat on a wheel.
Gray one matched the speed of the collapse, jumping and flicking the treats out with its front paw, whoosh, whoosh.
A-nimble skill akin to fishing in water.
Gray one’s golden eyes sparkled.
『It’s fun!』
As the mountain of treats piled up outside, Gray one hopped off without any reluctance.
Gray one raised his head proudly, striding one step at a time before sitting down next to his pile of spoils.
Then took a treat in his mouth.
Crunch.
A cheerful and crispy sound echoed through the studio.
Crunch.
This time, the sound came from Kkamnyang’s mouth.
With their eyes half-closed, the cats chewed on the treats.
Crunch, munch.
When the delightful sound ceased, Gray one licked his lips with his pink tongue.
『Delicious!』
『It’s good even after another bite.』
The two cats meowed in contentment simultaneously, then looked back at the treat mountain and took a deep breath.
As if displaying satisfaction after enjoying a very tasty meal.
Swish.
Gray one jumped.
It seemed like he was pouncing back into the treat mountain, but instead, he flicked a treat into the air with his forepaw.
Whizz.
Kkamnyang leaped, catching the treat mid-air in his mouth, as if playing frisbee like a dog catching a flying disc in a great leap.
Softly.
Kkamnyang landed on the ground without a sound, dropping the treat he had in his mouth onto the floor.
“Kkamnyang, catch with your paw.”
『Alright, hyung.』
Responding to Lee Joon’s request, Kkamnyang caught the treat thrown by Gray one with both front paws before gently landing on his hind paws.
The flow, as natural as water flowing downwards, touched the hearts of the moved crew who couldn’t just stay quiet.
Tap, tap, tap.
They lightly tapped their clenched fists.
It was applause held in check, out of consideration not to alarm the cats with the sound.
Director Jeong clenched his fists and muttered quietly.
“Perfect! That’s it!”
Turning to the camera operator, director Jeong asked.
“Did you catch everything?”
“Yes, of course.”
The camera operator also beamed merrily.
“Excellent. This time, let’s go with all four cameras. Is the observation camera also running?”
“Yes!”
As Director Jeong, excited, gave directions to the crew, the cats returned carrying sacks from somewhere.
These sacks were as big as their own bodies.
『I’ll open it.』
『I’ll put them in.』
With Gray one stepping on the sack’s mouth with his hind legs and pulling it up with his paws, the sack opened.
Kkamnyang then stuffed treats into it swiftly with his front paws.
The speed was unmatched compared to picking them up one by one with their mouths.
Once two sacks were full, Gray one meowed happily.
『Hyung, please tie this.』
“Sure.”
Coming near, Lee Joon tied the sacks, and the cats raised their forepaws, cheering.
『Yay! We secured the food for our comrades!』
『Haha, finally, they will taste this as well.』
“Shall I take more of these?”
『That’s not what we collected.』
『This is ours.』
Clearly knowing which belonged to them, the cats didn’t act greedy for more.
『Let’s head over there.』
『Let’s go.』
The cats passed by the red tub without even glancing at it.
Their actions showed evident dislike as they quickly passed the red tub.
Then they arrived at the yellow tub.
Gray one vaulted up.
Kkamnyang followed suit.
Both landed simultaneously on the mountain of yellow treats.
『Smells delicious.』
『I want to eat it.』
Even the usually calm Kkamnyang got excited and buried his nose into the treats.
The pair didn’t even think about descending from the treat mountain, gobbling a treat right there.
Crunch.
Their weight caused the treat mountain to cave in, but the cats didn’t budge, keeping on munching.
Ultimately, the cats were buried in treats.
Little tufts of fur sticking out here and there, along with shifting treats showing their location.
Yet, the joyous sound of treats being crunched echoed clearly.
Crunch.
The sound emitted from the microphones on the cats’ necks.
Having each devoured five treats, they crawled out of the tub leisurely.
『So delicious! Let’s take a lot of these.』
『Of course, I want to give plenty to our companions.』
『Yes, let’s pack a lot. I want to give some to Jamong as well. Do you think giving them to Hyung Ddangkong would make him happy?』
『He will certainly like it.』
Wishing to share with their dog friends, the cats hunted for treats from the yellow tub for a long while.
『But where’s the tastiest one?』
『I can smell it… hmmm!』
Having relied on his nose in the past due to vision issues, Kkamnyang closed his eyes and sniffed deeply.
‘Where is this scent coming from? Should I go there?’
With his eyes shut, Kkamnyang discerned the scent wafting up his nose.
After a brief moment, Kkamnyang opened his eyes brightly.
『Over there.』
Kkamnyang dashed off.
Exiting the room, Kkamnyang ran into the next room, knocking on the door.
『Open the door.』
『I smell something delicious in there!』
Gray one followed, knocking on the door alongside Kkamnyang.
Seeing this, the crew swooned.
“So, so cute. What do we do about those little mittens!”
“I want to touch them. How are they so adorable?”
Following them, Manager Gong asked Lee Joon.
“Director Lee, are they really fond of that?”
“Yes, they seem to enjoy it the most among these.”
Team Leader Park spoke with an intriguing smile.
“Hehe, you might want to look forward to this.”
“After listening to Manager Park’s advice, I decorated it separately, but I don’t know if it will surpass their previous reactions.”
Gray one and Kkamnyang had already surpassed Director Jeong’s dreams, showcasing actions he had never imagined.
‘Seems like they’ll show something more spectacular.’
Director Jeong, watching Gray one and Kkamnyang, was filled with anticipation.
“Okay, let’s open the door.”
Director Jeong instructed a staff member to open the door.
From the door’s exterior alone, there was a striking difference compared to the room the cats had just exited.
With that, a staff member pressed the bell attached next to the large door.
