He Comes At Night

Chapter 14: 13. Black

Third POV:

There was a scratch that caught Rose stirring in her sleep. A hand reached out scratched the itch make her feel relieved.

The blissful sensation that followed, that post-itch relief, brought a smile to her lips even as her eyes remained closed.

Even in her sleep her head throbbed and the pillow against her head felt rough, extremely rough. Her body began to feel uncomfortable the more she stirred around in her sleep.

Another itch, another scratch and Rose moaned in discomfort and it felt like a fly or two also made it's way into her room. Did she leave her bedroom window open?

Though still somewhere in the recesses of her slumbering mind, Rose was thinking as she getting bothered by the fly buzzing near her ear.

Her eye cracked open when the fly and uncomfortable pillow became too much for her to remain peacefully asleep.

Still not completely opening her eyes, Rose got up and walked her way to the window. She raised one of her hand to the window whilst rubbing her eyes with the other one.

A moment went by and she couldn't yet reach the hard window pane. Groggily Rose looked ahead to see where had the darned window flown off to?

And confusion hit her in the next moment when she realized not just her window but the entire left side of her room had flown off to somewhere and replaced by an abyss of black cloak that seemed to have consumed all the light.

And thus, it was enough to take all the sleep from her eyes, jolting her in wakeful awareness.

Rose stumbled a step back when it felt like the darkness was bleeding closer to her.

This isn't true, it must be the affect of her hitting her head in that accident.

She turned to see the other part of her room in order to get back inside her bed and hope to wake up in the morning with all her brain functioning normally, as well as her room.

Alas, much to Rose's dismay, the room was gone and instead eaten up by the same blackness and she was standing in the middle of it... or the edge... she couldn't tell where it began and where it ends, it was just so dark.

She is definitely concussed.

But she was just sleeping on her bed a moment ago. Rose thought she just got up from her rather uncomfortable bed and then it was all gone.

What was happening?

Where is she?

Is this a dream or just her having an episode of hallucination caused by a concussion?

Nonetheless, to her it felt real. More real than any dream or hallucination.

"Hello!"

"Is anybody there? Where am I?"

Her voice echoed into the darkness, bouncing off unseen walls. She continued to yell, to shout, to call out, her throat growing dry and scratchy with each cry.

Yet, despite the discomfort, she persisted, screaming at the top of her lungs, for there was nothing else she could do.

It felt as if her entire existence had been reduced into a mere consciousness, lost in an abyss of darkness. With no visible landmarks or points of reference, she was disoriented, unable to discern which way she faced.

The blackness enveloped her entirely, rendering her unable to distinguish between the darkness of her closed eyelids and the void surrounding her. In this desolate expanse, she felt utterly alone.

Her loneliness was gone by the mere sound of a baritone call. Faint it may have been, though with a epitomic absence of a singular sound, it felt loud enough.

Rose couldn't make her throat release a sound, though a second ago she was screaming on top of her lungs only to have all her voice be consumed by the silence.

Now there was someone else here with her.

A relieve of breath and a statement was again picked up by Rose's ears.

"You're awake..." A voice called out but from where she couldn't tell as the waves of shiver slid down her body furthering freezing her in her place.

Who else is here with her? Should she run? Is this person going to hurt her?

But where will she run to? What if she runs and runs right into him?

"Seraphina..." A mere haunting whisper of a name that didn't even belong to her made her throw all cautious questions and dangerous possibilities to air and just begin to run.
