Chapter 791 - 791: Deceiving Olivia Jenkins
Chapter 791: Chapter 791: Deceiving Olivia Jenkins
Grace Ziegler was in such a bad state, and Daniel Marshall was worried about her. He also had many matters to deal with, so he couldn’t leave.
Daniel Marshall called Olivia Jenkins to tell her that there was an emergency and that he had to go on a business trip for a few days.
The issue about Grace Ziegler, with his Grandfather’s intervention, was already chaotic enough. Daniel Marshall didn’t want Olivia Jenkins to get involved, hence, he didn’t tell her the truth.
By the evening, the detailed results of Grace Ziegler’s examination came out. After the doctor confirmed the surgical plan, she was urgently wheeled into the operating room for ear repair surgery.
That night, Grace Ziegler’s phone started ringing.
Daniel Marshall saw on the display that it was Grace Ziegler’s mother calling.
Daniel Marshall didn’t pick up. He just stood there, staring blankly at the phone screen until the call stopped.
With a concerned look on his face, he sent a message to Larry Wood, asking him to take good care of Ella Charles and comfort her. He didn’t want her to worry.
Upon receiving the message, Larry Wood immediately went to Ella Charles’ house, with the excuse of delivering chicken soup.
Seeing Ella Lee’s troubled look, Larry Wood asked cautiously, “Ella, what’s wrong? Let’s talk.”
After thinking for a while, Ella Charles said, “I called Grace twice, but she didn’t answer. Whenever this happened before, she would either call me back or message me saying she was busy. But today is different, and it’s worrying. I’m afraid something bad has happened.”
Largely unfazed, Larry Wood responded, “I thought it was something major. It’s not strange at all. Young people are busy or they’re tired and rest early. Today is a day off, and Grace is taking an unusual rest, she might have slept early.”
“Once she’s rested, she’ll definitely call you back. Nowadays, young people are under a lot of pressure at work. This might also be her way to relieve stress. She’ll call you once she’s up, she also doesn’t want you to worry and affect you negatively.”
Ella Charles was somewhat relieved by Larry Wood’s reasonable explanation and her worries lessened.
“I always worry about her being out there alone. I fear that she might get bullied, or wronged and be too scared to say anything. I understand the pressure she’s carrying considering our current family situation. I’m scared of negatively impacting her.”
“Ella, don’t overthink things. You have to trust Grace. She’s been out there hustling for so long, she can handle herself. Drink the soup and rest. There’s a saying – no news is good news!”
Ella Charles nodded and drank the soup.
Worried that she might overthink things further, Larry Wood spent more time with her, chatting about general stuff until she fell asleep. Only then did Larry Wood leave.
…
Grace Ziegler’s surgery went smoothly and she was moved to the VIP ward. Daniel Marshall stayed with her in the ward the entire time.
It was only until the next morning, when Grace Ziegler finally woke up.
On seeing Chief Daniel Marshall still in the ward with her, Grace Ziegler, despite being physically in pain, was utterly moved. However, she carefully hid her true emotions.
“You’re awake. Have some porridge. It’s still hot!”
It was a while before Grace Ziegler responded. And when she did, she spoke louder than normal, “Thank you, Chief Daniel Marshall!”
Daniel Marshall was filled with mixed feelings.
He knew Grace Ziegler’s hearing had been impaired. Her auditory responses were slower than an average person.
She herself was not sure if others could hear her. So, she unconsciously started speaking louder, loud enough for her to hear.
Although her right ear could still hear, the doctor stated that due to the slap, it had sustained a certain amount of damage to the eardrum.
