Chapter 13: ch-13
"Alright, listen up," the prefect began his welcome speech. "This is the Slytherin common room. The first thing you need to remember is that the password changes every month. The noticeboard near the entrance will tell you the current password. Secondly, you are never to bring students from other houses here. If you do, you and that student better be ready for the consequences.
Now, you are all members of the ancient and noble house of Salazar Slytherin, the best of Hogwarts' founders. Others envy us; they call us dark wizards and witches. That's why, if you have a conflict with another Slytherin, it gets resolved here. Outside this room, we are united."
The prefect continued his speech, mostly about house pride but also including a few rules, such as not getting into trouble—or at least not getting caught.
Once he finished, Harry and the other first-years were allowed to relax and explore. Soon, other Slytherins began arriving, including the third-year girl Harry had seen with Blaise earlier. She had perfect light-brown skin, a beautiful face, chocolate-brown eyes, and shoulder-length black hair. Harry quickly looked away before he could be caught staring at the angelic-looking girl.
"Hey, Potter," a voice called, and Harry turned to see a sixth-year student approaching him. "I can't help but wonder what you're doing in the snakes' den," the older boy sneered, looking at Harry like he was an annoying insect.
"Sorry?" Harry raised an eyebrow, noticing how the entire common room was now watching them.
"What is a half-blood like you doing here?"
"The Hat decided Slytherin suited me," Harry replied with a shrug. "That's all."
"Hey, leave him alone," the beautiful third-year girl said disapprovingly.
"Don't worry, Angela," another third-year interjected. "He's not doing anything serious," he added with a smirk, clearly hoping for more drama.
"Exactly," the sixth-year sneered, taking a step closer to Harry. "Now listen, Potter." The older boy grabbed Harry by the collar, lifting him slightly so he had to stand on his toes. "I don't know what makes you think you'll be welcome in Slytherin, but you—"
Whatever the sixth-year was about to say was cut off when Jet's head shot out from Harry's collar. The snake hissed menacingly at the older boy, who barely managed to jump back, now staring at the serpent with a mix of shock and terror. The other Slytherins gasped or stepped back. At the moment, Jet's lower body was coiled around Harry's neck, while his upper half hissed furiously. Though usually calm, Jet was instantly triggered by anyone who tried to harm his beloved master.
"Come here, you little wretch! I'll tear you apart! Come closer, and I'll bite you!" Jet snarled.
"Calm down," Harry hissed softly, holding the snake with one hand. "I don't need you killing someone on my first night at Hogwarts."
"He threatened you!" Jet protested. "Assert your dominance," he suddenly advised.
"What?"
"Don't let them threaten you without consequences. Show them you're not to be messed with. Use the snakes—they're magical."
Harry was tempted to say, "No, I'm not doing that," but he stopped himself. Honestly, it wasn't a bad idea. Dudley had stopped bullying him when Harry made it clear Jet would retaliate. But here, he wasn't dealing with three Muggles; he had to make it clear that no one would push him around.
"That's a good idea, Jet," Harry finally admitted, pulling out his wand.
"You... you're a Parselmouth?!" the sixth-year stammered in disbelief.
"Took you long enough to figure that out," Harry smirked, pointing his wand at the bully. "Flipendo!" He cast the Knockback Jinx, aiming to at least knock the older boy off his feet, and was quite satisfied when the sixth-year was sent flying and landed near Angela.
"Snakes, wake up," Harry commanded, walking toward the older boy, who was still on the floor. The Slytherins gasped as the metal snakes decorating the common room began to move. "Bind him," Harry ordered, pointing at his target. The sixth-year tried to get up, but a pair of metal snakes coiled around him, pinning him down. The rest of the students were divided in their reactions—some stared at Harry in fear, while others looked at him as if he were Merlin reincarnated.
"What the hell?!" the sixth-year yelped, clearly uncomfortable with the metallic serpents wrapping around him.
"Scare him," Harry instructed, and one of the snakes coiled around the older boy's upper body opened its mouth, pressing its fangs against his neck, stopping just millimeters from his skin. "Do I have your attention now? I think you've realized I can talk to snakes," Harry said calmly.
"I... I..." the boy stammered, stopping when Jet hissed menacingly in his face.
"You wanted to know why I'm in Slytherin," Harry continued. "Because the Hat said this house would lead me to greatness, and I intend to be great. I don't know who you are, but I'm Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived. If that doesn't mean anything to you, how about the fact that I'm the guy controlling the snakes you're so afraid of? If you mess with me, you mess with them. But since this is my first night here, I'll behave." He smiled. "Release him and return to your places," he ordered.
The metal snakes obeyed, slithering away. Harry looked around, noting how everyone was staring at him with a mix of fear, awe, and disbelief. He had to admit it felt good, but who could blame him? He had spent his early years with the Dursleys, who looked at him like he was a criminal and a burden. Now, these people were looking at him with respect and reverence. Yes, it felt good.
"Oh, by the way, Flipendo!" Harry hit the sixth-year with another Knockback Jinx, sending him flying again. "Do me a favor—don't mess with me," he warned in a quiet but firm voice that everyone heard in the silence. "Well then... good night," Harry smiled, then turned to the prefect. "You didn't tell us where our rooms are," he pointed out.
"Oh... oh... right," the prefect stammered. "Um, just go down the stairs and follow the signs. The boys' rooms will be on the right. And you'll have to share a room with one other person; that's the rule."
"Really?" Harry turned to the other first-years. "Blaise? Want to join me?"
"Huh?!" Zabini blinked before Angela nudged him with her elbow. "Uh, yeah, yeah, I would," the boy quickly nodded.
"Great," Harry smiled. "See you all. Good night," he wished everyone in the common room before heading to his dorm.

Once Harry was inside his room, he shut the door and leaned against it. His legs gave out, and he slid to the floor.
"Holy crap," Harry exhaled, running his hands through his hair. "I can't believe I did that."
"You didn't like it?" Jet asked.
"No," Harry shook his head, a grin spreading across his face. "It was amazing."
