Harry Potter: The Rise Of Malfoy

Chapter 64: Chapter 64 New villain

Chapter 64.

Soren's reaction was swift; his wand had already slipped from his dark pocket into his hand in a split second. However, Gemma, as a prefect and elite student, acted with intent and was quicker by a fraction—Soren's wand was knocked away, and he was sent flying into the trunk of a large tree, spitting out a mouthful of blood. He felt several of his ribs break, and had it not been for his robust physical condition, he would have fallen unconscious by now.

Soren managed a somber smile, "I've always considered myself one step ahead, never thought I would fall to you, Gemma... What do you plan to do with me? If you want to kill me, be prepared to face the wrath of the Malfoy family!" After delivering this threat, Soren coughed up more blood, appearing weak and fragile.

Gemma shook her head, "I won't kill you. I just want to cast a memory-erasing spell on you, rewrite your memories, and then you can join us, become one of us… You are the most talented wizard I've ever seen, someone I would follow wholeheartedly. I believe that as long as you join us, the Ghost Society would be more than willing to train you to be the next Dark Lord. Once Dumbledore passes away, this world will be ours..."

Soren's demeanor changed dramatically, returning to his usual calm composure, and he sneered, "You've calculated this well, but unfortunately, I, Soren Malfoy, have said that only my own hair can be on my head!"

Silent wandless spell-casting!

A bright light erupted from Soren, resembling a human flash-bang— it was the Flashing Spell! In this pitch-black environment, the Flashing Spell was particularly potent. Although Gemma had anticipated this from Soren, his apparently injured appearance made her lower her guard, and she fell into a state of temporary blindness.

At the same time, in the dark pocket of Soren's left hand, a small red stone slipped into his grasp, infusing him with a surge of life energy, instantly healing all his wounds; at the same moment, his right hand clenched into a fist and, with a gentle motion, the wand that had been knocked away moments ago flew back into his hand.

Soren was aware that someone was targeting him, and the immediate priority was to escape with his life. He had no intention of entangling himself further with Gemma— even though he believed he had a chance against her, if she had outside help, it would be too late to escape.

Soren cast an Anti Disillusionment Charm combined with a Silent Charm, activating the function of his Merlin Robe that concealed his presence, smell, and body temperature. He rushed deep into the Forbidden Forest and stopped to rest after approximately half an hour. He believed that even if they had outside assistance, they would not be able to search such a vast area of the Forbidden Forest in time; once morning arrived, he could safely leave.

Though this outing nearly put him in the hands of his enemies, the knowledge gained was invaluable. Initially, Soren had indeed let down his guard due to Gemma and was caught off guard, but what he wore was the culmination of his painstaking efforts, the Merlin's Robe. If he wanted to, at the moment of ambush, he could still activate the Shield charm on the robe even without his wand, and would not have sustained such severe injuries.

He chose to take the risk to uncover the unseen enemy and understand their motives.

As the proverb states, "An obvious shot is simpler to obstruct, but a concealed arrow is difficult to defend against." Being aware of the Ghost Society as an adversary would simplify matters— regardless of how enigmatic it may be, it could still be confronted.

Years had passed since Tom Riddle's graduation, and Soren did not believe that Dumbledore, with his cunning and experience, was unaware of the existence of this underground organization. He likely chose to look the other way. Furthermore, as long as they needed to continue recruiting new members to operate, they would inevitably leave traces behind.

As for the person who hired the Ghost Society to deal with him, even if he thought with his toes, Soren knew it must be that bunch of pure-blood hardliners like Gellert Lestrange, who were unwilling to allow the Malfoy family to grow. Even if it wasn't Gellert himself, he was definitely involved.

Even though his body suffered no damage thanks to the Philosopher's Stone, the agony of being thrown aside and fracturing a rib was undeniably genuine; Soren was determined not to let this issue go unresolved. There is a well-known saying among Muggles that "revenge is a dish best served cold," and both the Ghost Society and Gellert Lestrange would encounter his vengeance!

What Soren felt regretful about was that Gemma was one of the few friends he had; their next meeting would be as enemies instead of friends.

The next morning, Soren appeared in the Great Hall as if nothing had happened. Gemma sat at one end of the long table, expressionless, eating breakfast as if nothing had ever occurred.

Soren took a seat at the long table, and the attentive Meredith stared at him and quietly asked, "Did something happen? Your expression seems a bit off..."

Soren gave a bitter smile, "I sneaked into the Forbidden Forest last night and almost didn't make it back."

After considering it, Soren felt that it was better not to drag the people around him into this muddy water for the time being.

From last night's experience, the number of people in the Ghost Society should be few, but all were upperclassmen or elite students, and there was a mysterious leader in the organization responsible for teaching dark magic. The power of dark magic, enhanced by malice, was definitely stronger than ordinary magic. Although Meredith and the others' strength was quite outstanding among their peers, it was still far from enough.

Daphne asked with concern, "Are you okay?"

Soren smiled slightly, "Of course, I'm fine. Fortunately, I made several preparations in advance—" Then he sneered, "But I believe someone will be in trouble soon!"

Halfway through breakfast, an owl delivered various letters, and Soren received one—just as he had left the Forbidden Forest that morning, he had sent Lucius a letter via the school's owl, informing him of last night's incident and his speculations about the Lestrange family. This letter was obviously a reply from Lucius.

Opening the letter made Soren frown—Lucius told him not to act and to give up any thoughts of revenge against the Lestrange!

Of course, the letter included an explanation: the Lestrange family firmly insisted that attack on soren had nothing to do with them, and other pureblood families quickly surfaced to express support, among them the Avery family, the Carrow family, and the Nott family, all clamoring loudly.

However, Lucius's anger was not so easily quelled, especially since his beloved son had been attacked. What truly made Lucius endure this was the intervention of pureblood families that rarely showed themselves—who also held a high position in the Ministry of Magic, the mysterious Mrs. Selwyn, and the closely-connected werewolf, Dolohov...

No matter how angry Lucius was, he knew that relying solely on the Malfoy family to face the sharpness of seven families was absolutely hopeless. Moreover, in matters of internal conflicts among pureblood families, his allies, the Knot family and the Parkinson family, might not firmly stand on his side.

Most importantly, the attacker in the whole incident was Gemma Farley, and Soren could not produce evidence to prove the involvement of the Lestrange.

Often, things are like this: you know it was him, I know it was him, they know it was him, but as long as there is no evidence to prove it, the Malfoy family would have no grounds to stand on.

Soren gritted his teeth; since he couldn't act against Gellert, then going after the Ghost Society should be possible. It seemed he would have to find an opportunity to inquire about information from Snape.

As for Gemma, Soren didn't want to have too much contact with her for the time being. While avoiding alarm, Gemma's cleverness and the Ghost Society's tight organization made it impossible for her to be unprepared for any countermeasures against Soren.

This feeling of being too pent up and having nowhere to vent was indeed quite suffocating and uncomfortable, but Soren, having lived two lives, quickly adjusted his mood and immersed himself back into daily life.

The dreary days repeated day by day, and soon it was April.

Soren was absorbed in studying advanced magic. Since the Christmas holidays ended, three months had passed since he started taking the magical enhancement potion.

After enduring tireless research and practice, Soren finally finished the profound "Book of Abattoir Vol. 1." His understanding of mental magic has reached a higher level. Meanwhile, through repeated and diligent practice, he has firmly mastered all the family spells of the Malfoy family and can now perform spells silently and non-verbally with great proficiency in an instant.

He is confident that in the field of mental magic, he is second to none, including Severus Snape, who is skilled in legilimency, perhaps only the inscrutable Professor Dumbledore is the sole exception.

During this period, he took the training of Daphne and Meredith seriously. He has come to deeply understand the drawbacks of being weak in numbers. The Malfoy family, as one of the most powerful families in present-day England, can only choose to retreat when facing the united support of several families.

Daphne and Meredith have quite good spell-casting skills, but having been pampered since childhood, they severely lack practical combat experience. If he hadn't led them to force their way through professors' challenges in their first year, their practical performance might not even match Harry's.

One day, in Soren's suitcase space.

Soren took out two skeleton models and used the enlarging charm to transform them into adult heights, allowing Daphne and Meredith to practice battling against them.

Under the animating charm, although the skeletons cannot cast spells, they can wield weapons like swords and bows, possessing both ranged and melee capabilities. Moreover, under Soren's strong mental manipulation, their movements for attacking, defending, and dodging are very agile. Therefore, for the two girls lacking in real combat experience, this practice is not easy.

After several rounds of practice, most of the girls' attacks were dodged by the skeletons, but some scattered spells managed to hit the skeletons. However, these scattered attacks did not cause any real damage to the skeletons. On the other hand, a perspiring Daphne had her hair disheveled, with an arrow hit on her right shoulder and a scratch on her left leg.

Of course, the skeletons used phantasmal weapons that only left marks. Meredith was not faring much better; she was stabbed in the back by the skeleton's sword twice, and even her wand-holding hand was injured.

Soren hurriedly called for a stop.

With a serious expression, he said, "Look at your performance. In a real battle, you would have lost your lives by now. Do you understand the difference between actual combat and practicing spells?"

Seeing the two girls nodding earnestly, Soren continued, "You've mastered many attack spells, your casting speed is quick, and you don't lack precision in your shots, but your spells missed the skeletons. Do you know why?"

He first let them ponder for a moment, then answered his own question: "It's because your attacks lack planning! You rely too much on combat instinct, so every spell is aimed directly at the skeletons without considering what to do when your opponent's dodging ability exceeds your hit rate. A skilled combat wizard plans and organizes for the next round of attacks while fighting, for example—"

With a wave of his wand, he chanted, "Avis!" Instantly, a swarm of birds materialized where his wand pointed. Then, with a downward flick of his wand, The birds shot toward the skeletons like bullets.

Faced with the massive bird assault, the skeletons dodged and defended, gradually being forced into a corner by Soren. To keep the skeletons firmly pinned in the corner, Soren cast several fire spells around it, preventing the skeletons from breaking through and slowly compressing their movement range — ultimately, Soren easily defeated the skeletons with a shattering curse.

"You've seen it too; the Avis charm can be used like this with fire spell. This casting technique is called 'combination spell.' Through this combination spell, I created a concentrated assault formed by a flock of birds charging at high speed. To withstand this impact, the skeletons were effectively driven into a corner, and then I used the fire spell to continue the suppression, shrinking their movement range. Without room to dodge or maneuver, I could easily deal with them using a shattering curse."
