Gourmet Hunter (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Related Information

Law stood aside and watched Sanbica operate the computer.

This is a very ordinary desktop computer and keyboard, but the development of software and network is extraordinary, far beyond the hardware in terms of development.

"Is just entering a name enough?" Law asked as he saw Sanbica log in to the official website of the Hunter Association. She simply input a first name without a surname on the relevant page, completing the registration process with an almost hasty efficiency.

"Do you know how many people register every year?" Sanbica asked.

Law thought for a moment and said, "A few thousand?"

"Wrong, it's hundreds of thousands," Sanbica corrected.

"How is that possible?" Law's eyes widened. In his memory, there were only about one or two thousand people taking the exam.

Sanbica couldn't understand Law's surprise, and said calmly, "This is the number of people who register each year, but only a small fraction make it to the location of the first phase. During my Hunter Exam, there were more than 3,000 candidates who managed to find the first phase's location."

"Do you understand now? Even if the number of registrants exceeds a million every year, it's not unusual. Only a few people will be qualified for the exam in the end. This is because the screening has already begun before the official exam begins."

"If there are many candidates who find the exam's location, the examiner in charge of the first phase will increase the difficulty of the exam and try to eliminate most of the candidates in the first phase. For example, in my session, there were more than 3,000 candidates who got into the first phase, but less than 200 passed it."

"So, if there are a lot of candidates in the first phase, you have to be mentally prepared."

Law nodded in sudden realization. The minimal information required for registration, with only one name, is because there were too many applicants every year, and only a pitifully small number of candidates who could advance.

"Basically, every candidate taking the exam will first research about the details from previous years' exams to increase the chances of finding the location for the first phase of the exam. You..." Sanbica trailed off, suddenly pausing as if realizing something, with a look of resignation in her eyes.

She suddenly realized that there was no need to explain so much, because with Law's strength, it was too easy to pass the Hunter Exam.

There is a huge difference between Nen Users and non-Nen Users.

Compared with the candidates who take the test every year, the candidate, who knew how to use Nen, is like having a cheating device. They will be able to breeze through the exam with little effort.

With that thought, Sanbica withdrew his gaze from Law and looked back at the monitor, then said with a hint of exasperation: "You don't need to know all this. With your strength, passing the Hunter Exam will be simple."

Law smiled awkwardly when he heard this. He took the Hunter Exam just to add more pages to his book and never thought about passing it. After all, if he passed it, he could not take the Hunter Exam again, which was equivalent to missing the best environment to add more pages.

"Alright, here's the clue." Sanbica didn't notice Law's slightly awkward smile. She stared at the hint given on the webpage and said, "The exam location is the Amaromi Forest."

"Where is Amaromi Forest?" Law asked.

Sanbica didn't say anything. Instead, she logged out of the Hunter Association's official website, then took out her Hunter License and inserted it into a card reader attached to the monitor.

After inserting her Hunter License, Sanbica logged into a Hunter-exclusive information site, typed 'Amaromi Forest' into the search engine-like interface, and clicked 'Search'.

A moment later, information related to Amaromi Forest appeared on the screen.

Seeing this, Law leaned closer to the monitor and browsed the information on it.

The Amaromi Forest is located in the southern region of Pita Continent, which is one of the six continents and also the smallest of the six continents.

"It'll take about six days by sea to reach Pita Continent?" Law stroked his chin as he browsed the information and said to himself: "The nearest port to embark is the Marvando Port."

Sanbica nodded slightly, then moved the mouse and clicked a few times. The web page changed, showing the Marvando Port's ship schedules for December.

There is only one ship, which departs at 11 AM on the last day of December.

"Can we buy tickets online?" Law asked instinctively.

Sanbica found his question silly but refrained from mocking him. Instead, she shook her head and said, "No, and the conditions for boarding aren't about purchasing tickets. You'll only find out when you get there. Also, there are only 300 people who can board the ship."

"Hmm." Law pondered and said casually, "Well, we'll figure it out when we get there. By the way, can this webpage be used to look up other things?"

"Sure, what do you want to look up?" asked Sanbica.

"Ingredients from the Amaromi Forest." Law said as his eyes lit up.

Sanbica glanced at Law in surprise and directly typed in the search keywords.

The page loaded and directly displayed an extensive list of ingredients, the highest being B-level and the lowest being G-level, with a total of 689 items.

This meant these were the known ingredients rated by the difficulty to obtain them, and there are only two B-level difficulty ingredients in the Amaromi Forest.

There are approximately 30,000 known species in the Amaromi Forest, and more than 50,000 plant species. Out of this vast diversity, only 689 were recognized as usable ingredients with assigned difficulty levels, and there are no A-level ingredients.

According to the Hunter Association's standards, A-level was the highest difficulty for known ingredients. As for S-level, they were so rare and extreme that they were almost mythical.

"Show me what the B-level ingredients are." Law only took a fancy to the highest-level ingredients.

Upon hearing this, Sanbica clicked on the sub-category, and the webpage immediately displayed the relevant information of B-level ingredients, which were the bear paws of the Hand-Hand Bear and the gallbladder of the Butterfly-Patterned Python.

In addition to displaying the ingredients, relevant information about the Hand-Hand Bear and the Butterfly-Patterned Python was also provided.

The fact that they are classified as B-level difficulty indicated that these creatures were not only highly dangerous, but also aggressive toward humans.

The scary thing about the Hand-Hand Bear is its round, powerful paws, which are capable of delivering deadly blows with incredible speed and force. The Hand-Hand Bear is one of the Amaromi Forest's apex predators. As for the Butterfly-Patterned Python, what's frightnening about it is just one word: Big.

After Law memorized the relevant information, he said, "That's enough. Now, help me look up the Gourmet Competition."

"Are you planning to become a Gourmet Hunter?" Sanbica asked while navigating the site.

As the information Law wanted to inquire about was related to food, it's normal for Sanbica to ask this question.

"I have many hobbies, and food is just one of them." Law replied casually. He figured he might take on various professions in the future, such as Gourmet Hunter, Treasure Hunter, Ruins Hunter, etc...

Sanbica glanced at him and reminded, "Once you get your license, you can only choose one profession."

"There's such a rule?" Law asked in surprise.

Sanbica nodded. She didn't know much about the Hunter Association's rule, so she didn't say much.

The Hunter Association seemed to only count the achievements and merits of its members in one field. For example, if Sanbica chose the profession of Virus Hunter, all of her achievements, whether directly related to viruses or not, would be attributed to her career profile under that title.

The gradually accumulated achievements and contributions are the key to obtaining Star titles and also the experience points for building fame within the association.

Law plans to take part in the Hunter Exam every year, so he had no intention of obtaining a Hunter License. So whether the Hunter Association has such a regulation or not is none of his business.

He figured that as long as he made significant achievements across multiple fields, he will be well-known even without a Hunter License and Star titles.

"The information is out." Sanbica suddenly said.

Law shifted his gaze to the screen and browsed the information related to the Gourmet Competition.

The first piece of information to catch his eye was tied to Netero, which is accompanied by a video clip.
