Chapter 11: #11 - Another Gacha
The door opens as we talk about *our* city, the boy who enters looks completely unbothered by the fact no one addresses him as he sits down in the lonely chair placed in the middle of the room.
Not caring about him, we continue discussing, making time so that the situation finally falls on top of his head.
He's in the most important place of the Spartan city, the heart of it, all alone with no one for him to trust.
But he still puts a strong front, sitting calmly waiting for us to end our chats.
"...then contact Athens, the barbarians are..."
"...what about the league?..."
"...no, the megalopolis is..."
Important chats could be heard all around him, including mine with the one at my side.
The room echoed softly, the squared table around him finally stopped talking and decided to acknowledge the boy.
"I assume you're wondering why you have been brought here" Started one of my peers behind him.
"Yes, I don't remember doing anything of measure" He said uninterested, not bothering to look back.
Either he's humble, or he doesn't care to lie so blatantly.
"Your displays in the last battle were significant, not only that, but the sheer potential of your iron and light magic are worthy of being used"
"...Thanks" Unsurely, he answers.
Oh? Did he realize the true meaning of that statement? That's not necessarily bad, Sparta always has needed sharp warriors.
Shame most die in battle.
The idea that the boy might go against us never came up in my mind, after all, he's Spartan, and really, after all the measures we had taken for Sparta, was one slightly stronger than most was going to be their downfall?
I didn't think so, and neither did all of the presents, our only thought was concerning how to use their soldier in the best way possible.
After all, if such an asset was in their city, in their people, what good would it have to have it die on the battlefield, or worse, to have it live a normal life in the protected city?
In this room, they all had their thoughts about the boy and his actions.
Some thought about it as a blessing.
Some as a moderate annoyance.
Some were interested in his future.
But none of them doubted that the reason the boy was there in the first place, was because they were favored by the gods.
The Admirer who saw him that day would even call their meeting a blessing.
They could even call it... a fateful meeting.
...
...
...
Once I stepped into the meeting, I knew what they were trying to do.
'Please, you're all too early in this thing' They were trying to intimidate me.
They didn't acknowledge my existence in the slightest and I was basically forced to sit in the only chair in the middle of them, it was that or standing like I was their subordinate.
The chair was surrounded by a long table in the shape of a square, with one path that parted the figure and let me access it.
Men who all wore the same white robes and acted almost equally sat at the square table, ignoring me the best way they could while they talked about some subjects that were slightly interesting, but not enough for me to distract myself with.
Once they deemed it a bother to keep ignoring me, I was brought to attention by someone behind me.
'Oh, I also remember this, something about not being in sight, right? So that you can't answer without looking at him' I pondered in my head if I should turn or not.
Not caring enough about the people who used power plays against me the second I stepped in, I didn't turn while I answered.
They didn't react, so I'm not the first one to do that.
In the questions they asked, they mentioned my iron and light magic... I already knew they would get the information from the guys I came back to Sparta with, but iron magic? I guess that counts for my armor and weapons... They didn't mention anything about ice magic though.
Overall, they questioned me about various things, but all of those things were simple ones to find out about me, where I live, with who, and who is my team...
Yeah, they only want to ask me this so I'm more susceptible and let my guard down when they start with the real questions.
"..." Oh, they're doubting? Well, they know I don't trust them enough for me to answer everything, and I'd just escape in that case, so they need to ask later.
"Well, we thank you for answering our questions" One of them at my right said.
"Now, we would like to give you an offer" Now, one who is behind me said.
"It's about your current living situation" An old man in the front said.
"You have proved yourself worthy" Someone, not at my left, but at my right again said.
"Worthy of being treated better than your peers" This time it was from my left.
"On the way here, you have noted the village outside this building" The man who's directly in front of me said.
He refers to the small village built around the Parthenon and the palace.
"Yes..." Spartans answer concisely, always, so it's not weird or a lack of respect for me to answer like this.
"We would like to offer you the opportunity to live here" The same person said.
"Since you're a mage, you will be allowed to train by yourself, while you will also be allowed access to the main diner" He continued, extending his arms to the side.
"You won't be bothered with wars unless it's a grave issue, and the military duties you would have will be centered on magic mostly" He concluded, standing up slowly.
As he did, everyone did so too.
"What is your answer, child?" He asked, crossing his arms.
...Isn't this too good?
No wars, No bothers, More magic opportunities...
Sure, I'm probably going to be treated as a weapon of war after the year, and since I'm not allowed to go to the training; I'll be seen as weak by my warrior compatriots, which in turn would associate with me not being talked to an ostracized the same way Kratos was.
But after the year I'm sure I could get out of this place easily. I'll just need a character that can fly, and self-sustain is already covered so I could become a hermit in the mountains of the other side of the world. Well, this world is flat, but my point is the same.
"...It would be my honor" I answer, a few seconds after thinking about the benefits.
"Very well." The man answers.
"You will have to come back tomorrow, the first of the new month, for the specifics of the house, of course, if you aren't interested, then they shall be delivered in a week to you" He continued and I just nodded, concentrated on other things.
I don't doubt he has hidden intentions, but they won't matter the second I'm strong enough.
Even better yet, they won't matter in a week or two.
Or well, some weeks for them.
Four months for me.
...
...
...
The house I was led to was a fairly standard one. It had a door that functioned properly, windows that you could open, and a second floor that was connected by a stair.
Usual things, but it was big.
On the first floor, there were many rooms, a kitchen with a furnace, a long table connected to the kitchen, and an extra room with a bed.
Going up the stairs, you would find the second floor with the main bedroom, which had a bed big enough for two, candles, drawers, and many other day-to-day things.
The second floor also had a small balcony to step on and look at the road, of course, this balcony was protected by a door.
"I don't know why I would use the furnace, but it's a nice and big house" I said while throwing myself into the bed.
The sun was setting and the skies were slowly darkening.
"Time for me to sleep" I said.
"Or..."
[Status - 3/3]
[Name: Arian Wolkoff]
[Race: Human(Demigod)]
[Assimilations [Show]]
[Assimilation Process:]
-Roland Deschain - 63%
-Peter Parker - 81%
[Progress Bar: 239%]
"Would you look at that..." Hmm, should I roll?
"Well, the man in white said that tomorrow was the new month, so maybe I should save my pulls for tomorrow, that would be 50 pulls, 20 of which would be better than the other 30" Pull now or pull tomorrow...
"Nah, I'll pull tomorrow, there's no immediate issue and it's already night"
The sooner I go to sleep the better.
I've had a long day, and I want to sleep until the next year.
Hmm, I wonder if I don't do my monthly pulls they will accumulate...
[They won't]
Oh, all right then.
This bed was proper this time, soft surface, and soft blankets, and there was even a nightstand to the side of it.
I don't need a comfortable bed to fall asleep, but it helps a lot.
All said and done...
"Snore..." Some people count sheep, I count snores.
...
My eye opens suddenly but I don't make any sudden moves.
"Haah..." The first sigh of the day.
It's morning, early morning. Once again, I have woken up really early.
Well, it's not my fault, I just have some nightmares about various things, not only my assimilation memories, but that's the usual.
Standing up, I stretch a little, just enough for me to activate my body.
It's useless since my body is always ready for action, but it's nice to flex my body and feel it.
Taking out my grimoire, I summon a mirror wordlessly, just to see myself.
"Nice~"
Although the red robe covered my body and a blanket made as a makeup skirt, I still was able to look at my figure.
"I'm muscular, tall, attractive... Is this because of the body of Kratos or because of the assimilations?" I wondered.
Jason and Nathan are the only ones who I have assimilated, both are attractive and tall, and I don't know about Nathan, but Jason is built like a fridge in every comic he is.
Well, it's kinda the artist's fault, it's not a few of the times when he was drawn like a thirty-year-old full of muscle.
"Still, my body wasn't this muscular when I started assimilating him, it had some muscle, but it was minor, I had to flex a little to see it, and now it's on full display"
My hair is still a bit bald, but it's growing, it's not noticeable yet, but if I touch it I can fill it.
"Alright, with that out of the way, let's do the gacha"
[Gacha - 1/3]
[Summon - 10(0)]
"Wait, nothing?" Ugh, it doesn't reset each month? Actually, I should ask.
"How much time until I can pull by the gacha, and not by the progress bar"
[25 days and 20 hours]
Huh? Uh, let me see...
I pulled the gacha, and then I spent the next two days doing nothing, the third day was the war day, and today was the fourth day.
Yep, accurate.
"I can still pull the gacha though."
[Assimilation Process:]
-Roland Deschain - 71%
-Peter Parker - 88%
[Progress Bar: 239%]
"Parker is almost done... I still have an assimilation spot, so I can pull without worries" The assimilation process had gone up with my memories, but it was a bit hard to make it progress.
I can't help people like Peter did, and I have no idea what did Roland.
Nathan was easily assimilated because I did things he would shoot people and parkour.
Even then, I only needed a small percentage because he was marginally weaker than me, I mean, I'm Spider-Man. Literally.
"Those things aside, let's this it now"
I take a comfortable position in my bed, laying my head over the pillow and my body over the sheets.
[Progress Bar: 239%]
"Alright, pull"
[1: Whale - Iron Lung]
"DUDE"
*This* is the first pull?! Wasn't it supposed to be better than the general one?!
Or...
This thing lives in an ocean of blood...
"Is it because I just killed a lot of people?" I ask with disbelief.
There's no way, right...?
"No, no, no, this is just the first pull, I'm sure the next one will be better"
C'mon, Gacha.
[2: Ender Dragon - Minecraft]
Alright, nothing murderous.
This isn't so bad too...
Actually, it is kinda bad, I do not need this, even if I could assimilate things that are way too different from my physiology, I would assimilate the other things I have.
Realistically, this offers me nothing.
"Next"
[3: Piecemaker - Diskworld]
Out of everything I could get, I get this?
There are gods in this series, and I get the car-sized ballista?
Of course, I do, why do I even bother pulling at this point?
[4: Ragna - Ragna Crimson]
Nice, a strong character with a lot of experience, this guy can cut through mountains with ease so that's that.
Plus the power system he uses counters magic, right?
That's perfect for me.
[5: Oliver Grayson - Invincible]
Oh. Oh. Oh.
This is good, very good. I can't even begin to describe how many things will this give me.
Half-Viltrumite and Half that alien race that can learn things pretty quickly.
It's the kid version though, from before Conquest arrived on Earth, so nothing to the level of a proper viltrumite.
Still, its probably the fastest learner in the whole series, and he fought against the viltrumites in the comics, so he should be pretty strong too.
Not only that, but he's also fast very fast, and he also should have the potential of hybrids, so overall, a pretty good pull, I think I'm going to assimilate him first.
[6: Serum K - Project Moon]
I get a lot of things from this verse, not that I'm complaining, it's a fairly powerful verse, even more so considering we don't know anything about the outskirts, or the first three corps.
The image in the gacha shows a small vial that can be put into a syringe, this small vial contains green water that doesn't have any other special properties at first glance.
"This is good, dangerous, but good. If I ever get a research facility or something; I need to study it"
Nothing immediately useful, though, let's continue.
[7: Draht - Frieren]
Who?
He has a horn, so a demon...
The magic system from that world is good and useful.
So, good pull.
[8: Set: Derek Zoolander - Zoolander]
Huh?
I like the memes and the movie, but it's useless to me, even if it's a set.
Although I might just assimilate him for the funnies, modeling knowledge is pretty niche.
[9: Summoning Mechanic]
Ooh, a mechanic...
[Allows to bring the cards from their original world into yours]
"Huh, that's..." I'm not sure how to feel about that...
On one hand, it sounds great, because it's not so sane to live alone and have no friends or people to talk to, and the Spartans suck at that. On the other, I don't know how the summoned is going to react.
If they are non-sentient or low intelligence, yes, they might not bother, like dogs and such, but what about a whole human? Imagine I bring someone chill who everyone likes, but he doesn't react all too well to my summon.
Although, having more people to help can be useful...
"Ugh, it's a headache..." At the end of the day, my modus operandi is to test out things, so eventually, it will have to be used, not now, though, I barely have a house, so why would I bring someone when I barely have a house?
"Alright, next"
[10: Cosmic Plushie - Terraria: Calamity]
Are you serious?
Wow, what are the chances of getting this just before the travel...
"No, wait, the important thing first"
I can get items from mods. That's... something.
The possibilities are bigger now, I remember playing some nice Minecraft mods. Like Avaritia, ore spawn, wasn't there a doom mod too?
"What exactly is this, though?"
"An Item? A character?"
[Inventory - 2/3]
[Cosmic Plushie]
"_Summons the devourer of the cosmos...?
Suppresses friendly red devils
Sharp objects possibly included"
[Hybrid Item/Character]
That's the common tooltip, the color of the card isn't golden or red, it's not a mix between them either.
It's a dark color, but it has the image of the plushie as a background.
"Do I need to summon it or do I need to take it out of my inventory as an item?"
[For most situations is an item, but to manifest it, you need to summon it]
Perfect situation to test out the summon mechanic.
Sitting on the bed, I take out the card from the inventory and say "Summon"
The card floats out of my hand and motes of light and darkness start coming out of it, forming itself into a small figure floating in the middle of my room.
As the figure's body gets a more defined form, it slowly reveals itself as a small child, no bigger than one meter, falling into the ground as the motes stop swirling around her.
"Whoa" Before she could fall, I grabbed her.
The child has long pink-purple hair, with bangs that frame her light and unworried face and the rest falling loose over her shoulders.
She also wears full body armor. The armor is dark purple and lavender, with details in the form of pointed plates reminiscent of the scales or claws of a dragon or monster.
It has a complex design, with an organic and almost floral touch in its aesthetics. The armor covers the entire body, including the arms and legs, and appears to be made of a tough material.
'Cosmilite...' Briefly passes my mind as I stabilize her, before placing her in the ground.
Shit, I should've thought this better.
Didn't I just enlist a myriad of reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea to summon someone?
God, this wasn't a good idea, still, I shouldn't display those thoughts in my mind.
"Hey, are you fine?" I asked the child, who was taking the inexistent dirt off her armor.
She nodded enthusiastically, and once she finished, she got smaller, around the size of my waist, and stood behind me, as if guarding me.
I turned around and looked at her in the least intimidating way possible.
"Do you have a name?"
She shook her head to the sides and did nothing more.
"...Do you know my name?"
She shook her head once again.
'...'
"...Do you know anything about the situation you're in?" I ask with a little disbelief in my words.
She shakes her head.
"Haah..." Sighing, I fall to the bed.
The little girl gets closer to the edge and stares at me with a little bit of worry and guilt in her eyes.
Quickly, I reassure her of any misunderstandings she may have.
"No, no, you haven't done anything bad, actually, it's the opposite..." I sit in the bed and straighten my posture "...I got too nervous summoning someone, but it has gone way better than I could expect, so thank you" I pat her on the head like a pet.
She happily accepts my pats and relaxes.
And I feel something weird in my head strengthen... like a connection being reinforced.
The child looks at me and she answers the unasked question.
"Whoa, you feel it too..." I say.
She nods and climbs in the bed, before sitting next to me.
Is this because she's a hybrid, or will I be connected to all of my summons?
'Gacha, explain this connection' I didn't ask for a detailed explanation, my mistake.
[Unique to Hybrid Categories, it facilitates the communication between the summoner and the summoned being]
Just that? Well, it seems accurate.
I don't mind it, it's not like it is tugging my head at all times or projecting my thoughts onto her or vice versa, it's just a way of understanding each other, but maybe it could become useless once I get some sort of telepathy.
"So... Are you hungry? Thirsty?" I ask her, half to have a small chat and half because if she needs something I should give it to her.
She shakes her head.
"By the way, do you have any way of identifying you? You told me you don't have a name, but I don't want to call you ¨She¨,¨Her¨, or ¨You¨ everyday" I tell her.
The little pink girl puts her fingers below her jaw and thinks for a bit.
After a moment, she springs up from the bed and points at me with her finger.
"Me?"
She nods.
"You want me to name you?" The little bits of information coming from our mental link makes me deduce that fact.
Once again, she nods, and I realize that she might be the first mute person I've ever met.
Small thoughts aside, no reason for me to not name her, but I should think about it.
"Alright, you will be..." Same as her, I put my fingers below my jaw.
A good name for her...
One flashes through my head, and I'm conflicted about whether it should be good to put her this name or not, but eh, it's a good name and I'm familiar with it.
"Eleanor, I like that name, do you?" Unsurely, I ask her.
She happily nods, and once again, I feel our connection get stronger.
"You're so cute~" I can't resist the urge to pat her.
Eleanor doesn't get annoyed and, in fact, enjoys my pats.
The summoning went well at the end, of course, it's a kid, who's already familiar with cosmic things and comes from a decently powered world. But Eleanor is happy, I am happy, and I got to inspect the new mechanic a little.
Good ending.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: Hey there
In case you haven't noticed, I'm specifically using a low-level gacha document to start up the series, because it wouldn't be too fun if MC got someone really op from the start, like, if I gave him someone from the 07th Expansion he would do everything in his power to fasten up the assimilation process, and once he ended it, he would go to a random corner of the world to not be bothered until the next gacha.
Or he would travel through all of it, maybe get Pandora's box and every powerup he could, like the golden fleece, the spear of destiny, and other things. Actually, he would get Pandora's box, wait a few days, and kill the entire pantheon to get stuff from gacha.
Well, my point is that you won't see characters that can destroy the universe anytime soon.
This note had nothing to do with the chapter, I just put it here because sometimes some characters slip in the gacha and it gets weird, like, Zoolander was right to the side of ULF Kars, and I thought about the big power difference.
Still, I won't downgrade him to Vamp Kars or anything, I didn't downgrade Oliver Grayson, even if in theory he should have equal or better potential than Mark.
Anyway, all said and done, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and bye bye.
