God Of Racing

Chapter 25: Bonding with a Monk

"Lieutenant Li, is this okay?" Another police officer looked troubled as he watched the captain busily installing a camera. "Why are we getting caught up in this commotion when we have so many other leads to follow? Those robbers aren't fools. After committing so many crimes in a row, they surely won't come here to mess around?"

"...Done!" Lieutenant Li wiped the sweat from his face with a towel. "You youngsters don't understand. Don't always judge things by their appearance."

"So you're saying the chief is wrong too?" Young people these days weren't so easily convinced.

"You..." Li took a sip of water. "I'm in a good mood today, so I'll teach you a few tricks. Although we police officers are supposed to obey orders, have you ever thought about what those highly educated, highly paid bosses know besides urging us to solve cases all day? ...I find it normal that they don't know, but it's hard for me to accept that you're making the same mistake."

Seeing that his superior was about to impart some wisdom, the junior officer quickly pulled out his notebook and started taking notes. After all, Lieutenant Li was a nationally recognized top ten police officer. He had long wanted Li to teach him something, but never had the chance. Now with a little prodding, it seemed to have worked. He was secretly delighted.

So it turned out to be a tactic of reverse psychology! Damn! Lieutenant Li smiled at him. "You've been following this case from the beginning and have watched all the video recordings. Tell me, what have you noticed?"

Stunned, he stopped writing and thought carefully for a moment. Finally, he smiled awkwardly. "Apart from noticing how clean and efficient their work is, I don't see anything particularly special."

"Is that all?" Li shook his head. "Have you noticed that they never say a word during their operations? They communicate almost entirely through eye contact. Why do you think that is?"

"To avoid having their voices recognized, I guess," he blurted out without looking up.

"You're more careless than I thought. But you're somewhat right. Have you considered how many people there are in the country? Why are they afraid of being heard? It's unlikely they're all celebrities whose voices everyone knows. There's only one explanation that makes sense: they're foreigners!"

"Oh, right! How could I be so stupid?" The junior officer's face turned bright red.

"Secondly, except for the two cases they did last week, how many times have we caught them this week? But why haven't we been able to arrest them?"

"Well... because they run too fast, like..." Like what? Looking at a car speeding by, the pondering junior officer had a sudden realization. "Like they're in race cars, they're too fast."

"There you have it," Lieutenant Li chuckled.

"Let me think... Captain, you've already drawn the conclusion. They're foreigners, and the ones racing against Wind God are Japanese; their cars are very fast, just like race cars... Lieutenant, looking at it this way, haven't we identified the suspects? Why are we still here?"

"What are you getting excited about?" Li's face darkened. "All of this is still just my speculation, without real evidence. Besides, I'm still puzzled by the question you raised earlier. Are they really such fools that after stirring up all this trouble with us, they'd still come here to do something like this?"

If even the lieutenant couldn't figure it out, the junior officer certainly couldn't either...

It wasn't just the junior police officer who was confused. Our protagonist, Zhuifeng, was also quite perplexed. It was just one street race, how could it have caused so much trouble? Does this count as being swept along by circumstances beyond my control? Zhuifeng smiled self-mockingly.

Without realizing it, Zhuifeng had spent the entire day at Piba Mountain Park in the central part of the city. Piba Mountain Park is the highest point in Chongqing's urban area, with an elevation of 280 meters. Legend has it that it got its name from the piba trees that once grew all over it. From the mountaintop, one could see the entire city. At night, the lights of countless homes reflect on the two rivers, creating an enchanting scene like a floating palace on the water.

"What's the use of fame and fortune? No matter how enchanting the current scenery is, won't it all be fleeting once dawn breaks?" Perhaps with Zhuifeng's latent wisdom, he might have been an enlightened high monk in ancient times.

"My friend, you shouldn't say that. Although it's fleeting, it has truly existed, hasn't it?"

The sudden voice startled Zhuifeng. He turned around and was shocked to see what appeared to be a truly enlightened high monk with an otherworldly aura... He broke out in a cold sweat!

"But if you can never possess it, what's the use of its beauty?" Zhuifeng countered, "It's like a night-blooming cereus."

"Amitabha. Although it disappears in an instant, doesn't it remain in our hearts? My friend, don't dwell too much on gains and losses. It's better to go with the flow for some things. You can't expect everything to go as you wish, after all, you're not a god."

Go with the flow? Gains and losses? Zhuifeng was stunned. What am I afraid of? "Master, please... advise me... Where did he go?" He rubbed his eyes hard, but looking around, there wasn't a single person in sight. "What..."

Zhuifeng felt like going crazy. What was all this about? Leaving without even saying goodbye, are there such impolite people in this world? How frustrating.

"If it's going with the flow, then let it be. If I'm going with the flow, why should I care? Sigh, the evening party must be starting soon, right?"

University evening parties were always places full of imagination for students just entering university life, especially for freshmen. They always try hard to make some friends there, laying a foundation for their future studies and life.

"It must be noisy there, right?" Looking at the party venue not far away, Zhuifeng's brows furrowed into a frown. Strangely enough, Zhuifeng not only didn't mind the dry, noisy, and flavorless sound of engines, but seemed to enjoy it a bit. However, what others considered lively, Zhuifeng found noisy and irritating. After hesitating for a long time, Zhuifeng still reluctantly walked over.

.....

"Huh..." As soon as he entered the hall, Zhuifeng noticed something was off. Apart from the sound coming from the big screen TV, there weren't any other loud noises. On screen was a car show seemingly about street racing.

Zhuifeng was very surprised. Surprised that racing had apparently become a national hobby. He remembered that when he was in high school, not even one out of ten of his classmates liked this sport.

"Hey, how come you're all into motorsports now?"

"Oh, Zhuifeng, hehe... I didn't like it before, but from today on, who knows... By the way, I think Professor Liu and the others were looking for you this afternoon, did you see them? Oh, and I'm Yang Jun."

"Uh... no." Zhuifeng's face turned red to his ears. Others knew his name even though he hadn't introduced himself, but he didn't know theirs. Zhuifeng could only smile sheepishly. "Why? How did you suddenly get into racing?"

"No particular reason." He fell silent for a moment. "You know, Zhuifeng, although China is a country with a huge population, in many aspects of sports, we can't compete with countries that only have tens of millions of people. It's heartbreaking. There was a time when I liked basketball too, but apart from Yao Ming, who else is there among Chinese players? And our football team... let's not even talk about it. In short, I couldn't help but lose interest in those competitive sports later. It's hard not to feel distant and unrepresented when you don't see people like you. But..."

He suddenly became excited. "But now it's different. It's funny to say, but I've always looked down on competitive racing. I thought it was just a competition of who had more money and better cars. But after hearing about this Wind God from Chongqing, I carefully looked into some information about racing. I was wrong. It turns out this is also a highly technical competitive sport, no less than basketball or football..."

"Oh..." Although he had said a lot, Zhuifeng was a bit unsettled and could only nod and respond randomly.

"Actually, the most important thing is that you can see many Chinese people in the racing world..."

"What, Chinese people?" Zhuifeng suddenly became alert. "Are there Chinese people in the racing world? How come I didn't know about this?"
