Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Breaking the Highest Record in History
David stood frozen, his expression one of disbelief.
"Y-You... level 7?"
His voice trembled, and for a moment, he questioned his own sanity. Could he have seen it wrong? The shock was overwhelming, and it took him a while to process.
This had never happened before.
The highest record for dungeon clearing had always been level 5. Now, Marsh had shattered all expectations by reaching level 7 in just 10 hours.
David could barely wrap his head around it.
"There weren't enough monsters in there; otherwise, he probably would've reached level 8," Marsh casually remarked, as if such feats were everyday occurrences for him.
"David, I'd like to apply for permission to leave the city and head to the suburbs of Xihai."
Marsh's request was clear and straightforward.
It was difficult for anyone to imagine that a day would come when all the monsters in the dungeon would be wiped out. Every time someone re-entered the dungeon, the monsters would respawn, resetting the entire instance.
No one had ever cleared out the entire dungeon of monsters in under 12 hours. After all, this was a novice dungeon, designed for rookies. Every participant was a beginner, with limited skills and weak combat capabilities.
And the level 8 monsters at the deepest levels—monsters of such strength were comparable to creatures in the wild.
But Marsh had done it. And he had done it in less than 10 hours.
He had broken all the records, all the rules.
David was still numb from shock, his brain struggling to process what had just happened.
"David?"
Hearing Marsh's voice brought him back to reality. Marsh waved his hand in front of David's face.
Finally, David blinked a few times, attempting to regain his composure. "Okay... okay, I understand," he muttered. "I'll approve your request and grant you permission to leave the city."
"You can rest now. Wait until the other students are finished before heading out."
Marsh had proven his strength in the most tangible way possible. He had earned the approval for his request without any trouble.
David returned to the table where the other principals were sitting, curiosity written across their faces.
"David, what happened?" one of the principals asked. "Why did that student leave the dungeon early? Is something wrong?"
"Yeah, is he injured? Where are his teammates?" another asked.
David, after drinking three cups of tea and taking a couple of deep breaths, finally spoke. "That student is Marsh. He cleared the entire novice dungeon... every single level 8 monster... all by himself."
A shocked silence filled the room. The principals exchanged wide-eyed glances.
"Hiss!"
They gasped, stunned by the magnitude of the achievement. Even Xia Dongyang, who had seen more than his fair share of exceptional students, was taken aback.
They all turned their attention to Marsh, now seated nearby. It was clear that Marsh wasn't just a normal student.
David nodded slowly. "Marsh is level 7 now. To go from level 1 to level 7 in just 10 hours... It's unheard of. Not only that, but he took down all the level 8 monsters in the dungeon. His combat strength is something else entirely."
"The hidden profession really is powerful," Xia Dongyang murmured. "That explains everything."
David continued, his voice tinged with awe. "It seems Marsh's profession, Necromancer, is far more powerful than we initially realized. In fact, it might even be comparable to legendary classes."
"I've heard the legends about these classes, but we've never actually seen one," another principal added. "Still, based on what we know, the Necromancer is already surpassing rare professions in its efficiency."
"I just wonder if it will continue to be this strong as he levels up," said Master Kong, who had been silent until now. "Some professions peak early, while others get stronger as they progress."
Xia Dongyang agreed. "For example, Jeny, who awakened the Elemental Mage class, is still in the early stages. But once she gains passive skills like Elemental Enhancement, she will rival even the strongest professions."
The principals were all experienced, well-versed in the intricacies of various professions. They knew that some classes gained strength quickly, while others took time to reveal their true potential.
David couldn't take his eyes off Marsh, who was meditating quietly nearby. There was a sense of anticipation in his heart.
"For now, Marsh's Necromancer class is extraordinarily powerful," David mused. "At this rate, I don't think we'll be in charge of him much longer."
"That's true," Xia Dongyang agreed, looking at the young Necromancer. "If Marsh gets into Xia Jing Academy, it will be their responsibility to nurture him."
David chuckled. "It's funny. Jeny's been competitive all her life, but I think this time, she might get a surprise."
Xia Dongyang smiled wryly. "Not just this time. Marsh's been surpassing Jeny for the last three years. She's been the second place for a while now."
Xia Dongyang knew his daughter well. She hadn't told him about her struggles with Marsh. He could only imagine how Jeny would feel now.
Marsh, meanwhile, had returned to meditation, recovering his spiritual energy.
At this moment, the number of skeleton warriors Marsh controlled had reached 24. There were still 70 available slots in his summoning space, meaning his skeleton army was only about one-third of its full potential.
It would take time to fill the remaining slots, but Marsh was in no rush.
The time passed quickly, and soon it was 9:00 PM.
The 12-hour dungeon time limit had finally expired. One by one, the students who had entered the dungeon were teleported out.
Most of them were exhausted after the intense 12-hour battle, but their faces were filled with excitement.
The thrill of actual combat was completely different from the theoretical knowledge they had learned in class.
Many students were stained with blood, and the sharp scent of it lingered in the air. A gust of wind swept through the area, and a teacher used a spell to dissipate the smell of blood.
The tutors quickly gathered their students, checking for injuries and assessing their conditions.
Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.
Most of the students had leveled up to level 3, while a few of the more powerful ones had reached level 4.
Jeny, too, was excited.
After a full day of battle, she had reached level 5, matching the highest record for the novice dungeon.
"I won't lose this time," she thought with determination.
"The highest record is level 5, and I've already tied it."
She looked around. "Where did Marsh go?"
Not seeing him, she looked carefully and soon spotted him in the distance, sitting in deep meditation.
"When did he come out?" she wondered, puzzled.
Then, as if struck by lightning, her eyes widened in disbelief.
"How is it possible? How did he reach level 7?"
Her body went numb, and she stood frozen in place, unable to comprehend what she was seeing.
Marsh's achievement had shattered everything she thought she knew about the dungeon, about herself, and about her future.
