Chapter 134: 135. To be extravagant
Justin, a supervisor from the Yuansen Trade Sales Department, was overseeing the warehouse construction site when he noticed Jason Liu's arrival. Startled, he hurried over, his face slightly flushed and his breath uneven.
"Mr. Liu, you're here!" Justin exclaimed, his voice tinged with nervousness.
Moments ago, Justin had been relaxing in the construction site restroom, taking a break from work. Seeing the boss suddenly appear, his heart raced with worry that his lack of diligence might be noticed.
Trying to stay composed, he offered a nervous smile and asked, "Mr. Liu, do you want to inspect the site? Manager Jiang sent me here to supervise. It's been quite hot out here today!"
Jason Liu looked at Justin, who seemed around his own age. He recalled that Justin worked under Jiang Chuchu in the sales department. Ignoring Justin's obvious attempt at small talk, Jason asked directly, "How long will it take to complete these three warehouses?"
Justin straightened up immediately, feeling the weight of his boss's question. He saw this as a test of his competence and was determined to impress. Fortunately, he had been keeping tabs on the construction progress.
"Mr. Liu, the warehouses are currently in the steel support installation phase," Justin explained eagerly. "We've sourced high-quality steel from reputable factories, so the materials are top-notch. The construction team is working in two shifts, ensuring progress around the clock—"
Jason Liu frowned slightly, his impatience visible. Justin quickly realized his mistake: a busy person like Jason Liu didn't have time for a detailed technical explanation. Before Jason could interrupt, Justin cut to the chase.
"In about 25 days, the warehouses will be completed," Justin said confidently.
Jason Liu nodded, calculating the timeline in his head. He planned to negotiate with the Stark family about leasing land for a lumber factory soon. Building a warehouse would be a priority to process and store wood before shipping it back to the modern world.
"That's acceptable," Jason said, a faint smile appearing on his face. "Your name is Justin, right? I remember you're with the sales department. Stay here and keep an eye on things. Make sure the construction team prioritizes safety—no accidents."
"Yes, Mr. Liu! I'll supervise everything closely and ensure the project progresses smoothly," Justin replied enthusiastically, thrilled that his boss had remembered his name.
Jason Liu smiled at him, offering a brief look of encouragement before getting into his car and driving off.
As the car disappeared into the distance, Justin stood there, grinning to himself. "I better stay on top of things," he muttered. "If I slack off again and the boss catches me, I might lose this job. And jobs like this, with great pay, are hard to find in this City."
Halfway through his drive, Jason received a call from his sister, Liu Wan.
"Jason, did you send a big package today? SF Express delivered it this morning," Liu Wan began.
Earlier that day, after dropping off her children at kindergarten, Liu Wan had been startled when a deliveryman arrived with a large cardboard box. Neither her husband nor her in-laws had ordered anything, so she and her mother-in-law opened the package together. Inside, they found children's snacks, toys, clothes, high-end cosmetics, and several sets of luxury apparel for both men and women.
Liu Wan immediately suspected it was from her brother.
"Yeah, I sent it," Jason confirmed, smiling to himself as he drove.
"Well, you surprised me! Since when did you start buying gifts for everyone?" Liu Wan teased. "You've never done this before."
Jason chuckled, feeling slightly embarrassed. "I didn't have the means to do it before. Things are different now. I can afford to treat you, Mom, and Dad properly."
"The clothes and shoes I bought for Mom and Dad are in that box too," he continued. "When you visit them, make sure to take their things with you."
"Don't worry, I'll handle it. I was already planning to take Lila and Noah to Grandma's house this weekend, so I'll bring the gifts then," Liu Wan replied.
"Good," Jason said. "I'll be driving now, so I'll hang up."
"Alright, take care of yourself," Liu Wan added, slipping in a playful jab before hanging up. "And maybe start looking for a girlfriend while you're at it!"
Jason shook his head, amused. He knew his sister often worried about his introverted nature, but he had more pressing concerns at the moment.
Back at his villa, Jason began preparing gifts for the Starks and King Robert. He had commissioned four high-carbon steel swords from a modern prop maker and acquired stab-resistant clothing for added protection.
The two sets meant for the Starks were dyed a bright silver, exuding elegance befitting the family of Winterfell. The sets intended for King Robert and Joffrey were golden yellow, designed to project extravagance and opulence.
Jason knew these gifts would leave a strong impression, not just as tokens of goodwill but as symbols of his ability to deliver items of exceptional quality.
