From Nine Rank Psychic to a Totem of a Small Tribe

Illusion, Conjuration, Protection, Prophecy, Evocation, Enchantment, Necromancy, and Transmutation.

These eight subjects are the major and basic subjects for mage. There are many rare subjects but they are easily found.

His Illusion 0-rank spell belongs to the Illusion subject.

But the magic missile belongs to the Evocation field.

So, for him, it is a brand new subject to study. Learning spells is boring to learn a new spell of a new field. Only with the spell book, you will not be able to learn the spell but he has to study many books explaining that said field.

But he is not discouraged by the difficulty, he encourages himself as he watches the magic missile explode halfway as the first one.

He wants his family to protect their Baron title but for that, he has to become a 6th rank mage in two years.

The kingdom awards every citizen with a baron title after they become a 6th-rank mage.

Not, only their Rhine Kingdom but other kingdoms do this because a 6th-rank mage is not only a super fighting force for the kingdom but they are also a new source of wealth with their magic scroll, potions, and magic weapons.

In two years he cannot become a 6th-rank mage but if he can become a 4th or 5th-rank mage. He can ask for support from other noble families. 

Nobody will say no to a 4th or 5th-rank mage asking for a little support.

But first, he has to become a 2nd-rank mage- for that, he has to learn and perform two 0-rank spells.

And he chooses Magic Missile and Magic hand spells.

But becoming a third-rank mage would be difficult for he has to learn one 1-rank spell and three new 0-rank spells.

For that minimum of 1300 merit points is required and he cannot ask for this from his brother.

Because investing in him is a risk, if he fails to become a 4th-rank mage in two years then they will lose their noble title, and their territory and become ordinary civilians.

So, he planned after he became a 2nd rank mage, his cousin Mike and the other two Green and Lin become a 1st rank mage.
