Forgery of a Legend

Chapter 4: Outcome

The wheels of the carriage rolled ever so slowly, the world was dark and Jahn was gloomy. He never went a mission before, so why had they given him one so suddenly.

His only requirement was to watch the prisoners of war, no battles, no duelling, nothing. Just watching prisoners of war. He hung his head low, all the gazes of shame on him felt like hundreds of knives impaling him.

After a while the carriage came to a stop and Leon tugged at Jahn to start moving. Jahn hesitantly started moving, he didn't want to walk to his death, he had to keep living for his wife and family were waiting on him to come home.

They reached General Gawain's chambers. It was large and spacious, compared to General Fitzgerald's.

The was a desk in the corner and a ton of space to carry out activities, however it smelt a lot like BO.

"HAIL GENERAL GAWAIN!"

The two men knelt down and uttered. The rose up and Leon gave the General the run down of what had occurred.

The General looked at Jahn disappointedly and told Leon to leave and that he would deal with him accordingly.

"So you put your life over the civilians and kids eh?"

Jahn didn't reply and only looked down.

"Ok, I won't send you to the executioner or anything like that, but your punishment is to serve time in the camp prison until the Conquest is over."

Jahn looked up and nodded, he was happy that he got off lucky but he knew that this wasn't the end of everything because the Conquest was off to a good start and the enemy forces were starting to reduce in number. He guessed that it would take 30 to 80 days to be completed.

General Gawain had personally escorted Jahn to the prison. Jahn was shackled and quiet yet the journey there was not easy, at least for Jahn.

The many soldiers and Captains knelt and gave hail to the General and went on to mock and throw objects, at their own risk, and words at Jahn. The General could only stay silent and observe.

They reached the prison and the General unshackled Jahn and opened the doors for him to enter, Jahn entered the prison and looked around for a while.

It was a dark space, barely any light illuminated it. It was almost like a cave but there were doors and a tray were one could receive food and water.

The ceiling was high enough and the walls were wide enough for Jahn to move about.

He looked at his new humble abode and sighed a big relief, it was better than being dead.

"Here take this, hone your skills and talent, the Kingdom could use a strong one like you, both mentally and physically."

Gawain threw Jahn a sword and abruptly left. Jahn was now alone with a sword and his own self.

He sat down and closed his eyes, he felt his essence pooling around his heart almost like a whirlpool.

After an unknown amount of time he opened his eyes. He was surrounded by darkness, not a single thing in sight, no sword, no gates to the prison. Just darkness.

He walked around and it was all the same. Pure darkness. Then Jahn saw the events that had unfolded that evening.

"This again."

Jahn muttered to himself. This had happened to him after he fought with Leon but he thought it was a dream but clearly he was mistaken now.

It was a chance for him to change his actions, to never make the same mistake again. Jahn pictured himself in the scene once again, sword in hand and fireball coming at him.

He lifted his sword and cut down at the fireball. He felt his entire being burning with pain. The scene came again. He had to overcome the fireball.

Leon knocked on his General's chamber door.

"Enter."

A voice called from inside. There a bald, tall man with fiery and intense eyes. They were shaped like and almond and suited his carefree and vibrant nature that he gave off.

Gawain was currently doing pushups as Leon entered. After giving hail to the General he asked,

"Why did you let him off easy? He left the civilians and kids to die!'

Leon demanded answers. He was struggling to fathom how the General could let someone so irresponsible be let off with such an easy punishment.

"He was just a foot soldier, who was assigned to observe the prisoners of war and nothing more. He was given a mission to test his skills and you knew that, Captain."

Whenever Gawain called Leon, Captain, he knew that he was being respectful and also serious. Leon backed off and left the chambers.

He gritted his teeth and went to go train. First he was humiliated by that scoundrel and now he was getting favoured by the General.

Leon was livid.

In another base, sat in her chambers was a young women, she looked soft and innocent, like a plum blossom out of place. She had silvery grey hair that complimented her sharp black eyes.

It was as though she was an elf, born from the elvish regions. Yet she was in the middle of a skirmish between enemy empire.

She was the third and last daughter of the Bonerparte Kingdom. She had to win this Conquest, she had to prove that she was able to at least qualify for the battle of succession for the crown.

A mole entered from below the ground outside the chambers. The daughter of the Bonerparte Kingdom knelt down and put here hand on the mole and a purple hue of rings formed.

More and more moles approached and the girl gave them all the same treatment. One hand a purple hue of rings formed.

These moles were not in any way small, some of them were the size of a wild boar, some were even larger.

She then rallied all her men and gave a speech. It ended with,

"Today we will destroy those damn varlets!!!"

Then men cheered and they all marched. Their destination, simple. The base of the De-Kleins for they would truly see their decline on this day.

***

It was quiet. Too quiet. The Generals were all in large room and a table separated them of each other.

On one end sat Wykes, bushy scruffy man with sunken in eyes and dark circles. Next to him was the small Fitzgerald, his hair golden and his eyes blue. On the opposite end were, the massive Gawain and the shifty Hans.

His face was hidden by a hood, he was a master assassin who barely seen outside meetings. The four discussed the strange silence and no attacks from the enemy troops.

They wondered if they had retreated or if they were planning an all out attack. But before they could finish their discussions, chaos erupted outside. There were massive moles all over the place, and for some strange reason they spewing water from their mouths and clawed at the De-Klein forces.

The enemy troops were also present as they engaged in combat with the De-Klein forces, the Generals were left with no time to think, they also jumped into action.

Their first idea was to deal with the moles as they covered the battlefield and were doing most damage.

The De-Kleins were on the losing end, the moles were wreaking havoc left, right and centre.

The Generals' efforts were not in vain and they dealt with most of the moles before changing focus to the enemy troops.

Blood littered the floor, and body parts served as a decoration to the turmoil, there was no stopping, each force went all out, assassins, mages, knights, soldiers. Each clashed and got more violent.

The daughter of the Bonerparte Kingdom went all out and aimed here fire spell at the battlefield with no concern for friend or foe. The red ring threw out fire and the whole battlefield screamed.

Men were burning everywhere. The trees burnt, the birds and their habitats burnt. A large wave of water descended on the battle field, it's not like the mages of the De-Kleins were weak, they were waiting for their chance. The tide of the battle changed.

General Gawain struck at the opponents who dared face him, each took one cut, one life was equal to one cut.

Clang!

The sword of the Gawain met another sword. He laughed.

"You're a strong one aren't you?!"

The man never replied and put his visor on. He stepped back and charged at the General and swung his heavy sword.

The General blocked and the impact vibrated in his fingers and arms. He pushed with his sword and leapt at the opponent, he infused his sword with essence and sliced through his armour like it was nothing.

There was a large gash on the opponent's chest, the man grimaced in pain and attempted to charge forwards again, despite the pain.

He also infused his sword with essence and jabbed with tremendous power.

"You guys are all the damn same!"

The General shouted and dodged, he infused all his essence into this strike and aimed for the man's head.

As he was about to strike a strange barrier formed around the man. There was a mage in the tree and he shouted at the man,

"What are you doing, you're supposed to be Princess' sword, stop playing about!!!"

The man smiled and nodded. He stepped back and gripped his sword once again. He waited for Gawain to charge. But he wasn't, the man saw that he had to take initiative.

He charged forwards and imbued his feet with essence before leaping into the air, he aimed his sword downwards attempting to take Gawain's head just like he tried to take his.

Before he could finish his move, a heavy gust of wind blew him back and threw him into a tree.

***

Jahn heard all the shouts and the swords hitting each other. He knew a battle was taking a place but he no way of escaping the place.

There he sat and fell asleep, waiting for the darkness to take over so he could he train and prepare himself for the worst.
