Forced to Change the Story

Chapter 2: Registry

Walking through the streets of Sollus, the city where Abel now found himself—and the primary setting of the story he couldn't help but awe at the advanced technology and society around him.

It was like stepping into a sci-fi movie. Flying bikes and cars zoomed through the air, skyscrapers towered above the clouds, and holographic screens floated everywhere, displaying ads, news, and competitive sports centered entirely around magic.

In this world, nothing was ordinary. Technology and magic mixed with everything, forming the backbone of this world.

Luckily for Abel, the Hunter's Guild was just a few minutes' walk from his apartment. When he arrived, he was greeted by a massive building that stretched for miles, constructed from the strongest and most beautiful materials.

Abel felt butterflies in his stomach. Although he had planned on training here, standing in front of the guild made the reality of it sink in.

'This is going to be a lot harder than I thought.'

He took a deep breath, exhaling several times to calm himself before stepping inside.

The inside was full of life. Thousands of people filled the space—elderly, young, men, women, and even children younger than Abel. Surprisingly, the atmosphere wasn't tense or intimidating. Instead, it was lively. Laughter echoed everywhere through the hall as hunters chatted and formed parties to raid.

Abel was reminded of why he chose this place. The guild was renowned for being beginner friendly.

With a survival rate of 98%, the only hunters who typically died were those who overestimated themselves, attempting to raid floors far beyond their capabilities or going in without a team.

Spotting a short line at one of the registry counters, Abel quickly joined it. Within two minutes, it was his turn.

"Hello, sir! Welcome to the Hunter's Guild. May I have your name and date of birth?" the middle-aged receptionist asked with a warm smile.

Abel froze for a moment. He realized he didn't have any memories of this body—it was as though it had been created solely for him.

Deciding to use his real information from Earth, he said, "My name is Abel, and my birthday is March 15, 2009."

The receptionist raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "That would make you over two thousand years old."

Abel's eyes widened as he realized his mistake. This world was set far in the future. Thinking back to the timeline of the story, he quickly corrected himself.

"Haha, I almost had you. It's actually March 15, 4109," he said with an awkward laugh.

"You definitely didn't 'almost have me,'" the woman replied playfully. "Please wait while I run a background check."

Another reason the guild was so safe for beginners was its rigorous screening process. A background check made sure that every hunter was a trustworthy citizen with no criminal record.

The receptionist returned a moment later and handed Abel a sleek card with a small black chip embedded in it.

"This is your Hunter ID. You'll start at F-Rank, and as you complete quests, you'll rank up. The chip functions as a camera, recording all of your raids. Any foul play will result in immediate termination of your contract and possible punishment, depending on the severity of the offense."

Abel nodded and accepted the items, placing the chip on his chest and the ID in his pocket.

The chip activated immediately. It recorded a full 360-degree view of its surroundings, bypassing obstacles like the wearer's own body. As long as a hunter was inside the guild or on a raid, the chip was always active.

"If you need armor or weapons, you can purchase them from the guild or ask other hunters for assistance. Enjoy your stay!"

Abel thanked the receptionist and walked away, pulling out his phone to check his bank balance.

$0.00.

He sighed. This confirmed his suspicion that this body had been created for him, with no prior existence. Even the background check had gone through smoothly, meaning the being that sent him here had created his identity perfectly.

'Couldn't the author at least give me some money?' Abel thought bitterly. His dream of going from rags to riches and buying a flying car or one of the luxurious mansions this world had to offer, but that dream had just been crushed.

For now, he needed to find armor and weapons. Luckily, most hunters here were so wealthy and friendly that they were known to lend gear to newcomers.

As Abel wandered around, looking for someone who might help, he noticed a group of people who looked very familiar, two girls and two boys.

They were the same group that the main character joined when he first registered as a hunter in the story.

A smile crept onto Abel's face. Finally, some good luck.

He approached the group's leader, Kyle, and said, "Hey, can I ask for a favor?"

"Yeah, what do you need, bro?" Kyle responded.

Kyle was 18 and two inches shorter than Abel but far more muscular. He had the perfect physique for his size, with black hair and green eyes.

"I'm new to the guild and was hoping to borrow some armor. Do you have any?"

"Oh, you came to the right person, bro. Kyle doesn't know how to say no," another guy in the group chimed in with a laugh.

"That's not exactly a good thing, Vince, you dumbass," a girl snapped.

The bickering pair were Vince, the oldest of the group at 20, who had purple hair, green eyes, and a slim build, and Valerie, a 17-year-old with long black hair tied back by a red gem clip, and hazel eyes.

"Stop embarrassing Kyle. You're making our guest nervous," said a soft voice.

The speaker was Jess, another 17-year-old with curly blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was the most mature of the group, barely.

Abel chuckled nervously, not because of their personalities but because he had zero social skills. Years of being glued to his phone had left him with mild social anxiety.

Kyle smiled reassuringly. "Ignore them. We're a bit weird, but we're good people. I do have some gear you can borrow. Want to join our group? We'll show you how raiding works."

"Please, that would be great," Abel replied.

"Of course! You gotta look out for each other when it comes to demon hunting. What's your name, by the way?"

"Abel. Nice to meet you all."
