Chapter 65: Crouching Dragon, Fledgling Phoenix
After reaching the third floor, Cheng Zhu didn’t rush to find his dorm room. Instead, he set down his suitcase and replied to Lin Lu’s message. “You’ll have to bear the consequences.”
“It’s fine. Ningning never stays mad at me for long!” Lin Lu wasn’t afraid at all.
Little did she know that the consequences Cheng Zhu hinted at weren’t limited to Shen Qingning’s temper.
After chatting with Lin Lu for a bit, he went to find his dorm room—Room 309.
As he approached the door, he overheard a lively conversation coming from inside.
“Man, there are so many stunning senior sisters at Sci-Tech University!”
“What’s so surprising about that? Let me tell you. I just saw a first-year dragging his suitcase downstairs. A goddess-like woman dropped him off at the dorm, but her vibe didn’t seem like a student’s. I suspect she’s his sister.”
The speaker continued, “I’ve memorized that guy’s face. Later, I’ll try finding out what room he’s in. For the sake of his sister, I’ll become brothers with him.”
The room erupted in laughter, but it was suddenly interrupted by a male voice.
“By any chance, does that guy you’re talking about look like me?” Cheng Zhu, with his naturally upturned eyebrows, dragged his suitcase into the dorm room.
The boy who had been joking around moments ago sat frozen in his chair. Looking up at the tall, imposing classmate with an unruly air, he gulped nervously.
As soon as Cheng Zhu stepped into Room 309, he made an impression his roommates wouldn’t forget.
Not wanting to embarrass the guy too much, Cheng Zhu gave him a way out while keeping control of the situation. Smiling, he said, “What’s up? Didn’t you say you wanted to be brothers? Aren’t you going to introduce yourself?”
In this life, Cheng Zhu had chosen computer science as his major, different from his past life. As a result, his roommates were new faces, none of whom he recognized.
Cheng Zhu specifically checked their hairlines, planning to remember them at the peak of their looks.
“Ahem, my name is Liu Feng, and my nickname is Rukawa Kaede,” he said.
He looked nothing like Rukawa Kaede from Slam Dunk, not even remotely similar.
He wasn’t tall and was fairly pale. To give himself a nickname just because his name shared two characters with Rukawa Kaede? That was a bit of a stretch. (Rukawa Kaede in Chinese is Liuchuan Feng.)
“Got it, Chuan’er,” Cheng Zhu replied.
Liu Feng: “???”
Cheng Zhu then looked at another roommate. This boy was a little chubby and looked old. If not for the lack of wrinkles on his face, people might believe he was pushing forty.
Looking naturally older and being a computer science major? This combo was a killer.
But judging by the Cartier Ballon Bleu watch on his wrist, he likely came from a well-off family.
For a college student, wearing a watch of this caliber was impressive. After all, not everyone was CEO Little Jiang.
This weathered-looking guy met Cheng Zhu’s gaze and said two words as if each were gold, “Zheng Qingfeng.”
Cheng Zhu gave a slight nod before turning his attention to his last roommate.
This person was the one who had just said, “There are so many stunning senior sisters at Sci-Tech University.”
He was tall and skinny, with narrow shoulders, making him look like a bamboo pole. His looks weren’t bad—above average among college students. Plus, he was quite trendy, which hinted at a comfortable family background. On his feet were a pair of ‘Big Converse’—Rick Owens’ signature sneakers.
They looked similar to regular Converse, but their price was several times higher.
He introduced himself, “I’m Dong Dong, from Chengdu.”
For some reason, Cheng Zhu had a vague feeling. I think Room 309 has a high chance of producing a hidden dragon or a fledgling phoenix!
These guys didn’t match the stereotypical image of computer science majors in his mind.
After everyone shared their names, the conversation returned to the earlier topic.
Although Liu Feng thought Cheng Zhu had an intimidating look, he couldn’t suppress his curiosity.
His earlier remarks were just jokes. He knew a goddess of her level was completely out of his league. Still, he couldn’t resist his curiosity, eager to find out what kind of relationship she had with Cheng Zhu.
“Cheng…” Liu Feng had just said one word when he saw Cheng Zhu glance his way. The words on the tip of his tongue inexplicably turned into: “Brother Cheng.”
He kept feeling that Cheng Zhu exuded a bit of pressure, leaving him slightly on edge.
Unexpectedly, Cheng Zhu waved his hand and said, “Don’t call me Brother Cheng. It’s unlucky. Call me Brother Zhu.”
Hearing Brother Cheng reminded him of Itou Makoto from School Days, whom netizens mockingly called Brother Chéng (Brother Sincere). It didn’t sit well with him. It felt like a bad omen.
Among guys, casually calling each other brother was normal and hardly embarrassing. Only the truly lowly would stoop to calling someone father.
“Brother Zhu, the one who came with you to the dorm earlier, who is she?” he asked cautiously.
The weathered brother, Zheng Qingfeng, and the trendy bamboo pole, Dong Dong, both perked up their ears to listen.
Earlier, when they heard Liu Feng calling her a goddess, neither of them had taken it seriously.
After all, everyone’s taste in beauty was different.
Beautiful was beautiful, and pretty was pretty. Calling someone a goddess? Wasn’t that over the top?
Deep down, they both felt they were a notch above Liu Feng.
However, college students always found relationship topics to be the most interesting. It was a conversation that never seemed to end.
Cheng Zhu opened his bottle of water and took a sip. After moistening his throat, he said, “She’s not my sister, like you’re guessing. She’s a student, a second-year senior sister at the school.”
“Damn, do college students really have that strong of an aura?” Liu Feng exclaimed. “And, Brother Zhu, you met a goddess right as school started?”
Zheng Qingfeng and Dong Dong exchanged glances, becoming even more speechless.
Was he for real? He kept throwing around terms like aura and goddess.
They thought Liu Feng sounded like a loser, and the fact that his nickname was Rukawa Kaede only made it worse. From now on, they’d follow Cheng Zhu and call him Chuan’er!
But how Cheng Zhu had met this college senior sister was definitely worth hearing.
They were all computer science majors, and the gender ratio wasn’t great. Beautiful women in their field were rare, and most of the more capable ones were already thinking about dating outside their major or even seeking older, sensible, and charming women.
So they were eager to hear more!
“It’s nothing special. I met her through a friend over the summer,” Cheng Zhu said straightforwardly.
Zheng Qingfeng and Dong Dong were instantly disappointed. There was no skill involved here!
Only Liu Feng, who had seen Shen Qingning earlier, felt differently.
It wasn’t that he looked down on Dong Dong and Zheng Qingfeng. He simply felt it was impossible for these two to ever form a close friendship with a senior sister of that caliber.
It wasn’t even about being in a relationship. Just meeting her over the summer break was impressive enough!
“Brother Zhu, I’ll follow you from now on,” Liu Feng said, half-joking but with a hint of seriousness in his tone.
Zheng Qingfeng and Dong Dong glanced at him with even greater disdain.
Unable to resist, Dong Dong asked, “Speaking of which, have any of you ever been in a relationship?”
He thought Liu Feng definitely hadn’t, which explained why he acted so clueless.
Unexpectedly, Liu Feng said, “I’ve been in one.”
Cheng Zhu also raised a finger, signaling he had been in one too.
Dong Dong narrowed his eyes. “I’ve been in two, but I later realized it wasn’t worth it. Women just get full of themselves once you give them some attention. Honestly, being single is more comfortable. I don’t even care about dating anymore.”
Cheng Zhu understood and mentally translated: He had been in two relationships and treated them wholeheartedly, but still got dumped both times. Now, he was licking his wounds yet still yearning for love.
Now, all eyes turned to the old-looking, chubby Zheng Qingfeng.
The three of them stared at him, but he shook his head. He still cherished his words like gold, but what he said hit them like a ton of bricks, even leaving Cheng Zhu dazed.
The chubby roommate, who looked old enough to be Liu Feng’s father, slowly shook his head and said in a deep voice, “They all think I’m too aloof.”
This serious, resolute expression, combined with his deep, steady voice and mature appearance…
One word: legendary!
Cheng Zhu suddenly felt that his dorm life in college might actually be interesting.
The four of them spent about ten minutes chatting in the room.
Liu Feng spoke with the most humility and had a knack for reading people.
Dong Dong was straightforward and upright, though he had a hint of arrogance.
As mentioned, Zheng Qingfeng was a man of few words. His overly earnest ‘they all think I’m too aloof’ left Cheng Zhu unable to figure him out for now.
Finally, at Cheng Zhu’s suggestion, they all started cleaning the room.
Interestingly, how someone approached cleaning often revealed aspects of their personality.
For instance, Zheng Qingfeng seemed to have a touch of mysophobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It made Cheng Zhu realize: “He genuinely believes from the bottom of his heart that girls think he’s too aloof.”
Once they finished tidying up, Dong Dong suggested they explore the campus to get familiar with their environment.
Already familiar with Sci-Tech University and needed to handle something for Keep Coming, Cheng Zhu declined.
“You guys go ahead. I’ve got something to take care of later.” He waved them off.
But honestly, guys loved doing things in groups. Otherwise, why would they insist on dragging a buddy along even to the restroom? Plus, they usually had a solid sense of camaraderie. So the other three kept urging him, “Come on, let’s go together.”
In the end, realizing Cheng Zhu really seemed busy, they had to give up. Before leaving, the trendy, lanky Dong Dong said, “We have to eat together at the cafeteria tonight. It’s our first 309 gathering. My treat!”
When Cheng Zhu looked up, the three of them were already gone. They said they were going to explore the campus, but yeah, right—they were definitely off to check out girls.
He opened his laptop on his desk and started working on his store’s backend. Business is really getting better by the day. The entire market is sure to grow year after year. I’ve gotta say, the market for adult products has a lot of potential.
For now, Cheng Zhu had no intention of letting his roommates or classmates find out he was a sexy lingerie tycoon.
Imagine if word got out a first-year was making a killing selling this stuff on Taobao. He’d instantly be infamous on campus, and even the cafeteria aunties would gossip about him.
Wouldn’t the school reporters rush over with microphones to shove them in his face?
I’ve gotta keep a low profile. That’ll save me the trouble of them asking for freebies for their big nights out.
At 5 p.m., the three of them returned from their outing.
They planned to freshen up, change into stylish outfits, and then head to the cafeteria.
Cheng Zhu hadn’t expected computer science guys to care so much about their appearance, even as students.
So, writing code has really erased a lot of things from you, hasn’t it?
As soon as Liu Feng walked in, he said excitedly to Cheng Zhu, “Brother Zhu, do you know what Dong Dong just did? He’s amazing. He went straight up to a girl and got her WeChat!”
“Oh? You found someone you like on your first day?” Cheng Zhu asked.
But Dong Dong said half-pretentiously, half-innocently, “How can you call it liking? It’s just… we have a bit of a connection, so I thought I’d add her and see where it goes.”
Oh-ho, so the word ‘like’ holds some weight in your heart, huh?
This bastard is trying to test out his new roommate.
“Ah, I see. You mean her looks match your aesthetic,” Cheng Zhu said casually. “Here’s a small, possibly immature suggestion.”
“What?” Dong Dong asked, puzzled.
What Cheng Zhu said next made the three of them pause and give him a long, thoughtful look.
To Cheng Zhu, each of them had their own distinct traits. But to them, Cheng Zhu felt… different, but they couldn’t pinpoint why.
His next words only reinforced this impression. As for Dong Dong, he realized that he might not be the most prominent figure in their dorm room over the next four years.
What Cheng Zhu said was: “Don’t rush into a relationship. Start by being her friend. That way, you can see if her friends are even better looking than she is!”
