Chapter 54: Impossible to Refuse
“Here, drink some water,” Cheng Zhu said as he handed three bottles of mineral water to the girls and continued carrying the remaining three.
Shen Qingning was standing off to the side with her usual cold and aloof demeanor, watching Lin Lu and Little Youzi playing with the claw machine with a bored expression.
Cheng Zhu twisted off the bottle cap for his sister, paying no mind to the two girls.
After all, most girls could twist off your head, let alone a bottle cap. There was no need to help.
He glanced at his sister and quickly spotted a Pikachu dangling from the strap of her overalls.
It seemed Shen Qingning had given the Pikachu keychain she had worked so hard to catch to Little Youzi.
Cheng Zhu didn’t say anything, pretending not to notice for now.
After handing out the water, he started searching the arcade for Jiang Wanzhou and Shen Minglang.
“Where did those two idiots run off to?” he muttered, puzzled.
He didn’t find them in the claw machine section, basketball machine zone, or racing area…
Finally, he found them sitting on one of the small benches in front of the dance machines.
Every arcade almost always had two dance machines.
And sometimes, there were actually quite a few people dancing.
Usually, it was customers coming to play on the dance machines, but sometimes, the arcades hired girls to attract attention.
“Damn it. I’ve been looking all over for you, but you’re actually sitting here watching a girl shake her butt!” Cheng Zhu grumbled in disbelief, holding two bottles of Nongfu Spring. “Despicable!”
Then he sat on one of the small benches behind the dance machine and joined the crowd of onlookers.
To be fair, though, the girl dancing, while only visible from behind, had a great figure and knew how to shake it.
She wore tight black denim shorts and a pink crop top that showed off her slender waist.
Tsk. She’s got a black tattoo on her waist, but only part of it is visible. The rest is covered by her jeans, Cheng Zhu thought, noticing the detail.
He felt that the tattoo looked familiar, then he quickly realized. It’s a fucking arrow on her lower back, and it’s pointing at her butt. Tsk, she sure knows how to play!
Jiang Wanzhou unscrewed the bottle cap and said to Cheng Zhu, “This pervert Shen Minglang is debating whether he should ask her WeChat.”
Cheng Zhu responded immediately, “Then I’d better leave, or she’ll notice the guy asking for her WeChat has an even more handsome friend!”
“Get lost!” Shen Minglang snapped.
Cheng Zhu didn’t leave and asked, “What happened to that influencer from before?”
They probably broke up amicably after getting what they wanted, right?
It was 2014 after all. In this day and age, people were willing to sell all sorts of things just to buy an iPhone.
Not to mention, Boss Shen was always generous.
Throughout their conversation, the three of them kept their eyes glued to the dance, chatting without looking away.
Shen Minglang, in a nostalgic mood, said, “Back when Ningning was in elementary school, she loved playing on dance machines. But once she got to middle school, she became self-conscious and refused to play anymore.”
“Now that you mention it, I have some impression of it. Wasn’t it at the arcade my family invested in?” Jiang Wanzhou said.
Young Master Shen nodded slightly, eyes still fixed ahead. “Back then, Ningning was much more lively and cute. Girls really do change as they grow up.
“Of course, CEO Little Jiang, you too. Back then, you were great at shaking your hips—so coquettish. The dance machine was practically your stage.”
“Go to hell!”
Cheng Zhu pictured Shen Qingning’s striking looks and her heaven-defying long legs that could only be described as ‘leg perfection’. If she were to dance on a machine, tsk tsk tsk.
At this moment, Shen Minglang sighed a few more times and suddenly stood up.
The girl had just finished dancing and was stepping down for a rest.
Shen Minglang’s bottle of mineral water was still unopened. He planned to offer it to the girl as an icebreaker. But the moment he saw her face clearly, he immediately turned back. She wasn’t his type.
To his credit, this was one of his better qualities. He wouldn’t throw around harsh terms like ‘ugly’ to criticize someone’s appearance. Instead, he would simply say they weren’t his type.
Cheng Zhu smiled and quietly made a mental note about Shen Qingning loving dancing machines when she was young.
Generally, most scumbags had sharp memories. After all, forgetfulness could easily lead to slip-ups.
Just then, Lin Lu and Shen Qingning walked over, holding Little Youzi’s hands.
Two beauties with an adorable child naturally turned heads in the arcade. If not for Shen Qingning’s intimidating aura, someone might have worked up the courage to strike up a conversation.
“Why are you all sitting here? We’ve been looking for you forever,” Lin Lu said, annoyed.
Since no one was dancing now, Shen Minglang said without blushing, “We were just resting for a bit.”
The group spent another half hour playing with Little Youzi in the arcade, using up the remaining game tokens. Just as Shen Minglang was about to buy more, Cheng Zhu stopped him. “No need to buy more. I need to take her home early.”
The little girl would probably start feeling sleepy soon.
With so many plushies lined up by her bedside tonight, she would likely sleep soundly.
As the group left the arcade, Cheng Zhu noticed his little sister was tired, so he picked her up.
Once she was in his arms, he casually picked up the Pikachu keychain on her overalls and asked, “Huh, where did this Pikachu come from?”
“Big Sister Ningning caught it for me!” Little Youzi replied right away.
Lin Lu chimed in, “On the way here, someone said arcades were very childish. I don’t know where she disappeared, but when she came back, she had a keychain.”
Shen Qingning said nonchalantly, “I figured Little Youzi would like it, so I caught one for her.”
Cheng Zhu smiled but didn’t say anything.
It really did seem casual. There was no sign of intentionally bringing up.
Shen Minglang leaned over, picked up the keychain, and looked at it. “It really is Pikachu. When Ningning and I were kids, we loved watching Pokémon. I remember our parents renting the DVDs for us, and we watched over a hundred episodes in one go.
“Oh! I just remembered. You used to imitate Pikachu’s voice back then!” he said, suddenly excited.
The cold and aloof girl swept her gaze over him, and this older brother immediately felt a chill. From the chill, he grasped her meaning and wisely shut his mouth.
On the other hand, Lin Lu, ever the voice actress, actually started imitating Pikachu’s voice. “Pika, pika—”
Her antics made Little Youzi giggle and join in, chirping, “Pika, pika—”
The two of them began to ‘communicate’ like this and even called out to Shen Qingning in the same manner.
Shen Qingning glanced at them and seemed to find it childish, so she naturally wouldn’t join them.
At this moment, Cheng Zhu, still holding Little Youzi with one arm, reached into his pocket with his free hand and pulled out a Pikachu keychain with a troubled expression. “Ah! When I went to buy water earlier, I saw this keychain and thought it was cute, so I caught one for Little Youzi too. I wanted to surprise her, but you beat me to it.”
He shook the keychain slightly. The yellow mouse capable of releasing electricity was indeed cute.
Shen Qingning glanced at the item in his hand and was slightly surprised.
“There’s no need for two of the exact same thing. If we take them home, Mom will probably have something to say about it,” Cheng Zhu said to his sister.
“Huh? Yeah!” Cheng You seemed to have already pictured Xu Yun’s nagging in her mind.
She stretched out her small hand, took the Pikachu keychain from Cheng Zhu, and held it out towards Shen Qingning.
“Big Sister Ningning, you gave me a Pikachu, so my brother and I will give you one too. This way, we’re even!” Little Youzi shook the keychain in her hand.
Cheng Zhu only felt that his parents had truly blessed him with an amazing little sister.
Adorable, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful!
Many children would say, “Then I’ll give you one too,” naturally assuming that anything their older sibling got for them was theirs. Of course, there was nothing wrong with this.
But what she said was, “My brother and I will give you one too,” which made her naturally more endearing.
“Huh?” Shen Qingning was taken by surprise.
But how could anyone refuse such a kind gesture from a child?
It was definitely not because she really liked this Pikachu keychain, nor was it because she had worked hard to catch it at the machine, trying more than a dozen times.
“Then… thank you.” She smiled faintly, and the ice melted away.
