Chapter 736: Excessively Enthusiastic
When Mother Qin and Father Qin arrived at the hospital, they found that Wen Ran was not the only one in the room, Bai Xiaoxiao was also there.
After having breakfast in the morning, Wen Ran had asked Gu Kai to take her to the Bai Family home first, and then she had taken Xiaoxiao with her to the hospital.
There was not much she could chat about if it was just her and Qin Mu, so she invited Bai Xiaoxiao. In order to kill time, the three of them were playing Chinese checkers in the ward.
Gu Kai brought Mother Qin and Father Qin into the ward. What they saw was Bai Xiaoxiao, with on one hand, a checker piece and, in the other hand, her chin as she was deep in thought.
Meanwhile, Wen Ran was smiling brightly, looking at Bai Xiaoxiao with a proud look.
On another sofa, Qin Mu had a faint smile on his lips as he tenderly watched Wen Ran.
When she heard voices from the door, Wen Ran immediately turned her head to look.
“Uncle Qin, Aunt Qin,” called Wen Ran.
She tapped Bai Xiaoxiao lightly, and stood up to greet the elder couple.
Bai Xiaoxiao was still holding onto her checker piece, and as she stood she stated, “Qin Mu, I’ll think more about our game.”
“Xiaoxiao, Aunt Qin is an expert in Chinese checkers,” warned Gu Kai, as he glanced at the checkerboard.
Bai Xiaoxiao was currently in a checkmate situation due to Wen Ran and Qin Mu’s moves.
Upon hearing Gu Kai’s comment, Bai Xiaoxiao’s eyes lit up. She immediately turned to Mother Qin and pleaded eagerly, “Aunt Qin, is that true? Can you help me out, please? I’ve been blocked by Ranran and Qin Mu; they are teaming up and picking on me.”
Mother Qin gently laughed, looking towards Wen Ran and Qin Mu.
Wen Ran was quick to defend herself, “Aunt Qin, don’t listen to Xiaoxiao’s nonsense. It’s because her Chinese checkers skills are inadequate, not because Qin Mu and I are ganging up on her.”
The smile on Qin Mu’s face deepened as he said noncommittally, “Mom, you can watch the game without commenting. Don’t get too carried away.”
“You rascal, I haven’t even said anything yet, but with you talking like this, I have no choice but to help Xiaoxiao. Xiaoxiao, come on, make this move.”
Mother Qin indeed was an expert in Chinese checkers. She made a suggestion after just one look at their game that even Xiaoxiao, despite having put plenty of thought into it, hadn’t considered.
Wen Ran cried out, “Aunt Qin, Xiaoxiao was supposed to lose. Now she is outrunning me.”
Mother Qin gently patted her hand, sat down in front of the sofa and said, “Ranran, you could use Ah Mu’s checker piece, as long as he moves it later.”
The checker piece she was pointing at, was precisely the one that Qin Mu was planning to move.
Upon hearing Mother Qin’s words, Qin Mu’s reaching hand faltered, stopping just a few centimeters away from the checkerboard. He looked up at Wen Ran.
Wen Ran had noticed that checker piece earlier. It would be quite useful to her.
However, she couldn’t ask Qin Mu to keep it there because, with Mother Qin’s help, Xiaoxiao might not lose.
If Qin Mu let her have it, then he would lose.
Qin Mu lowered his gaze, his eyes sweeping over the checkerboard as he gave up his previous plan.
Choosing another checker piece, Mother Qin’s laughter grew even warmer. “Ranran, you better make your move quickly.”
“If you overlook one of my checker pieces, I will cross the bridge you’ve built, and it will be my turn.”
Qin Mu spoke with an air of unconcern.
Meanwhile, Gu Kai looked at Qin Mu thoughtfully.
He then called Father Qin to go with him, leaving the four of them staring at a checkerboard…
In the end, Wen Ran won the game. With the help of Mother Qin, Bai Xiaoxiao managed to secure second place, while Qin Mu, who had helped Wen Ran by building a bridge, finished last.
After the game ended, Wen Ran started collecting the checkerboard, just as Bai Xiaoxiao received a phone call.
Mother Qin took this chance to inquire about Qin Mu’s condition, and was relieved to see that he looked quite well.
He looked much better than when he was in A City, wasn’t as thin as before, which eased her worries.
“Ranran, thank you for helping us take care of Ah Mu these past few days. It seems that he really is better off in G City. In A City, he appeared maladjusted and listless.”
Mother Qin took a seat next to Wen Ran after she had packed up the checkerboard, and expressed her thanks.
“Aunt Qin, I can’t take the credit.”
Wen Ran felt undeserving of the praise. In the two weeks since Qin Mu arrived in G City, she had only seen him less than five times. Most of the time, it was her brother who came to keep him company and cheer him up.
“How can you say it’s not your credit?” countered Mother Qin with a smile. “After all, it was your suggestion to transfer Ah Mu to G City.
I was initially worried. He wouldn’t even listen to the doctor in A City. I was concerned his condition would worsen after returning to G City.
However, I didn’t expect him to look much better after being back for less than two weeks.
He doesn’t look so sick anymore. If he went on a blind date now, he probably wouldn’t get rejected by the girls like before.”
“Mom, I’ve only had a few days of peace. Don’t tell me you’re going to start arranging blind dates for me again.”
Qin Mu felt a headache coming on at the mention of blind dates.
He had agreed to go on blind dates in the past, only because he wanted to forget Wen Ran.
However, after many attempts, he hadn’t experienced any positive feelings towards anyone.
After going through that incident, he gave up hope. He decided that if he could forget Wen Ran, he would; if he couldn’t, then he was resigned to liking her for the rest of his life.
With this mindset, he lost all interest in blind dates.
“Alright, I’ll give you a few days of peace. I’ll arrange for the blind dates once you’re discharged from the hospital,” Mother Qin surprisingly accommodated her son’s request.
The real reason she had mentioned blind dates was to gauge her son’s reaction. She believed that he had lost interest in blind dates because of Wen Ran.
However, whether her interpretation aligned with Qin Mu’s actual thoughts was unknown.
During lunchtime, Gu Yan accompanied Father Qin for a few drinks. Meanwhile, Mother Qin chatted with Wen Ran, telling stories about Qin Mu’s embarrassing moments as a child. Although Qin Mu frowned at the stories, he didn’t try to stop her.
Mother Qin and Father Qin came to G City to visit Qin Mu on their way to somewhere else. They left G City in the afternoon. After seeing them off, Qin Mu suggested he discharge himself from the hospital.
Wen Ran looked at him in surprise, “Qin Mu, you just promised Aunt Qin that you’d stay in the hospital and recuperate. Why are you in such a hurry to discharge now?”
What would Mother Qin say if she knew of this?
With a nonchalant expression, Qin Mu casually said, “My mom’s gone, and as long as you guys don’t tell her, she won’t find out. If she calls you, just tell her that I’m still in the hospital.”
Wen Ran twitched her mouth, “Why are you in such a rush to leave the hospital?”
“To go to Haochen for work.”
Qin Mu pursed his lips and looked at Wen Ran, “I heard that Mo Jingteng is planning to acquire Haochen. I’m already healed for the most part, so it shouldn’t be a problem for me to return to work.”
“Acquire Haochen? How did you find out? Did Luo Haofeng tell you?”
Wen Ran stared at him in amazement. A few days ago, Luo Haofeng had only mentioned that Mo Xiuchen was targeting Haochen, but he didn’t say anything about an acquisition. Were they moving so fast?
Qin Mu shook his head, his tone calm and composed, which didn’t betray any worry or sadness he might be feeling about the possible acquisition of Haochen. “No, it wasn’t Ah Feng who told me. You don’t have to worry, I won’t let MS Group acquire Haochen. Perhaps, Xiuchen will be back soon.”
