The door creaked open, and a mysterious figure entered the room.
軋む音とともに扉が開き、謎めいた人物が部屋に入ってきた。
He walked toward me in silence. I raised my weapon and pulled the trigger—
彼は無言でこちらへ歩み寄る。私は武器を構え、引き金を引いた——
but the gun clicked empty. I had exhausted all my bullets on the other five.
だが、乾いた音だけが鳴った。弾は、あの五人にすべて使い果たしていた。
He smiled calmly and said, “I’m the one who will finish you.”
彼は穏やかに微笑み、「お前を終わらせるのは、この俺だ」と言った。
Suddenly, his hands reached out and tightened around my neck.
突然、彼の手が伸びてきて、私の首を締め上げた。
I struggled, clawed, thrashed—nothing helped.
もがき、引っかき、暴れた——だが、何の助けにもならなかった。
Just as I was about to lose consciousness, he let go and whispered,
意識が途切れそうになったその瞬間、彼は手を離し、囁いた。
“So now… you cling to life? Weren’t you halfway already?”
「今さら……生きることにしがみつくのか？お前はもう半分、沈んでいたのでは？」
Shocked and gasping, I asked, “Who… are you?”
息を切らし、衝撃に打たれながら私は尋ねた。「お前は……誰だ？」
“I am the version of Clinging. I exist in everyone—instinctually.
「私は“しがみつき”のバージョン。誰の中にも、本能的に存在している。」
But when I take control… people cling to anything: people, objects,

He leaned in with a laugh, “I’ll be the one to end you.”

We sat together—me and the sixth version—at the same table,

surrounded by the corpses of my past selves. Silence fell,

A headless man entered, carrying a dueling case.
首のない男が決闘用のケースを手にして現れた。
The sixth version nodded, “What took you so long? Dawn is near.
第六のバージョンがうなずいた。「遅かったな。夜明けが近い。」
We haven’t even started the duel.”
「まだ決闘すら始まっていない。」
“Duel?” I asked, confused.
「決闘？」私は困惑して尋ねた。
He turned to me, “Didn’t you want to destroy me?
彼は私を振り返り、「お前は俺を消したがっていたのでは？」
I’ll give you the chance—if you can defeat me before the first light.”
「チャンスをやろう——夜明け前に私を倒せれば、な。」
He left with the headless figure,
彼は首のない男と共に去った。
leaving me among the dead, trying to grasp what just happened.
私は死体に囲まれたまま、何が起きたのか理解しようとしていた。
Later, he returned.
やがて彼が戻ってきた。
“It’s time,” he said.
「時間だ」と彼は言った。
I hadn’t moved since the night before.
私は前の晩から一歩も動けていなかった。
No sleep, only shock, only silence.
眠りもなく、あるのは衝撃と沈黙だけ。
We walked together to a salt flat.
私たちは共に塩原へと歩いた。
The sky reflected perfectly on the surface, as though I were walking on stars.
空は地面に完全に映り込み、まるで星の上を歩いているようだった。
It was the first moment of peace since I faced my five.
五人と対峙して以来、初めての平穏な瞬間だった。
I smiled—my first smile.
私は微笑んだ——それが初めての笑顔だった。
It felt as though the universe held me gently in its arms.
宇宙が優しく私を抱いてくれているように感じた。
But the feeling shattered.
だが、その感覚は壊れた。
A sudden crack—gunfire.
突然の破裂音——銃声。
A burning pain ripped through my side.
燃えるような痛みが脇腹を引き裂いた。
I clutched my ribs, warm liquid soaking my hand.
私は肋骨を押さえ、温かい液体が手を濡らした。
My blood.
私の血だ。
Across from me, he stood calmly, weapon lowered.
向かいに立つ彼は、冷静に武器を下ろしていた。
“Will you surrender to my conditions?” he asked,
「俺の条件を飲むか？」彼は尋ねた。
“Or shall I finish it?”
「それとも、終わらせてやろうか？」
I tried to think. I needed clarity.
私は考えようとした。明晰さが欲しかった。
But the world faded, and I passed out.
だが、世界はかすみ、私は気を失った。
I woke up in a hospital bed.
私は病院のベッドで目を覚ました。
A voice echoed, “You’re quite the clinger… and a poor duelist.
声が響いた。「お前は見事なしがみつき屋だな……だが下手な決闘者だ。」
That was your chance—you blew it.”
「それがチャンスだったのに——逃したな。」
It was him—the sixth version—standing beside me.
それは彼だった——第六のバージョンが私のそばに立っていた。
“You fought,” he said, “but you were too enchanted by the sky
「お前は戦った」と彼は言った。「だが空に見惚れすぎていた。」
to see me strike.”
「俺の攻撃が見えなかったんだ。」
Before I could speak, he interrupted,
私が口を開く前に、彼は言葉を重ねた。
“I’m taking over now. I am Clinging.
「これからは俺が掌握する。俺が“しがみつき”だ。」
I’m no longer a feeling. I am control.
「もはや感情ではない。俺は支配だ。」
You won’t just cling to survival—
「お前は生き残りにしがみつくだけでは終わらない——」
You’ll cling to people, to objects, to everything.”
「人に、物に、何にでもしがみつくようになる。」
I exhaled deeply… and closed my eyes.
私は深く息を吐き……目を閉じた。
