Fate/Labyrinth

Chapter 4: Chapter 2.1: Interlude

...

Having been awoken from his sleep by the clanging of his bars, Kato Kiyohira was understandably upset. He looked up to see three guards going around the cells, clanging on the bars to wake up the prisoners.

Kato begins to think back on the events of the night before, reflecting on the appearance of that merry, yet quite small woman.

...huh... she was a weird one, for sure... why did she keep calling me 'Admiral'? ...I mean, I get that she's supposed to be the spirit of some great hero, but... it's still kinda weird... and, I wonder if that happened to anyone else...?

...

...it had, in fact, happened to someone else. everyone else, in fact, had a similar experience. all thirteen of the prisoners on this cell block had experienced a summoning of their own. but, of course, Kato Kiyohira did not know this. He knew only how a traditional Holy Grail War was supposed to be fought, thanks to the information provided by that woman he summoned, 'Saber'.

Unfortunately for them all, this rigged game, this twisted punishment for cynical heroes, was perhaps the furthest thing away from what a traditional Holy Grail War was supposed to be like.

Any knowledge those spirits had, was false.

Any knowledge supplied to those spirits via the Holy Grail, was false.

...this was wrong. Every thing, every component that could go wrong, has. every variable has been added, every concept flipped on its head.

Neither master nor servant knew of these changes, unfortunately. ...all but one master, and two servants... incidentally, that master happened to be contracted to both those servants.

...

what a coincidence.

...

...

The prisoners all filed into a large room, adorned with beautiful ornaments and designs of gold and copper. a room that, if not for the giant door at the end of the long room, would be quite beautiful. as it stands, though, The group felt an immense sense of dread just from glimpsing it, yet they did not know why as of yet... Wakata in particular, as an expert in magic, seemed shaken up.

Before the group could do anything else, however, the loud and haughty voice of a snobbish man rang out through the halls, as three figures made themselves clear on a small balcony.

The first of the three was, undoubtedly, the widely hated Monarch of Bouldhaven. known for his childish fits, his narcissistic attitude, and tendency to label anyone who displeases him as a terrorist, he is quite unpopular.

...that, and he usurped the throne from his older brother, who was the rightful heir.

Adorned with fabulous robes and extravagant silk, topped with a regal crown tainted by the wearer's childish and snobbish air, this was a figure that would not inspire fear in the slightest.

however, the two next to him...

one was a woman with light pinkish hair, dressed in an eastern style robe. the robe was blue, with faint flower patterns on it. it seemed to have been made shorter, perhaps for increased mobility. A curved sword lay wrapped to her belt, and a black scarf around her neck. Someone who may have been friendly had anyone else summoned them, but currently wearing a look of displeasure and despair. Even so, every member of the group could tell; this woman could kill them all without so much as a second thought.

The other was a tall man with messy, short black hair falling just over the edge of a piece of adorned silk wrapped around his head covering his eyes. he wore a southern style robe, yet he wore it loosely, seemingly with little regard for the formalities of it. under the robe, he wore a tight fitting, sleeveless black bodysuit, which showed off his impressive muscles. though, despite the muscles to suggest he was a fighter, he wore an amused yet slightly haughty smirk. Even with his eyes covered, everyone present could tell... this was a true Ruler.

Yet, each and every person who was marched into this room could feel something about those two... they were just like the ones that they all just summoned, in their cells.

"Hear ye, hear ye! stand at attention, you lazy scoundrels, you driveling dogs! you have the honor of being addressed by none other than the great Monarch of Bouldhaven!"

Immediately as Kato heard the man's voice, he wanted nothing more than to punch him. the snobbish accent, the upturned nose, the sense of superiority... it fit with what he had heard about the Monarch, at least...

"You stand here today, because I have decreed your deaths! you filthy terrorists shall be dealt with as according to Bouldhaven standard law! ...in but a moment, you dogs will enter those doors! once you do, you will be scattered randomly across my beautiful, royal Labyrinth! I shall enter as well, shortly after you all... many of you will enter, yet only one will leave! Hahahaha! oh, the greatest punishment indeed... what fools! you have not an inkling of a chance to survive! neigh, for that, one must have summoned Daedalus himself... oh, what foolish thoughts indeed!"

...Kato had one thought, looping in his mind over and over as the man spoke. that thought, of course, was a simple "he talks too much". this sentiment, unfortunately, led him to miss most of the further information given.

This becomes painfully clear, as a guard grabs him roughly and muscles him towards the large doors alongside the group. The group halts in front of the door, behind which they can feel an immense magic power brewing.

Just as many get the thought to risk running, the doors are flung open, and every convict there is sucked in as though it were a whirlpool, all thirteen of them.
