Chapter 161: Shame Before Snow
Early the next morning, everyone left the hotel to set off.
As soon as they stepped outside, they saw many Royal Army troops rushing in one direction.
"Hurry up–!!"
"Move it now–!!"
"It's the Kingdom Army!" Several people recognized them right away, since they had dealt with those soldiers just yesterday.
"The day after tomorrow, we're finally going to extract the magic power from that huge magic crystal!"
"Hey! If you move too slowly, you won't make it in time!"
"Huge magic crystal?" Natsu asked, puzzled.
Wendy said, "They must mean everyone from Magnolia."
Lucy grew worried. "They'll start extracting the magic in two days? We'll never make it in time on foot! What should we do?!"
Carla added gravely, "Once they begin draining the magic, there'll be no way to turn everyone back."
Su Yan's expression darkened. Hearing that his friends and family were being turned into raw magic energy didn't sit well with him at all. He almost wanted to transform into his blue dragon form, fly straight to the Edolas royal capital, and blast it away with his dragon's breath. Yet he hesitated because there were countless innocent people in the city. Though the ones responsible deserved punishment, the entire population might not.
At that moment, a flying machine appeared in the sky above and descended where the Royal Army had just gone.
"Let's grab that," Su Yan said, pointing at the airship. "We can use it to get to the capital."
His companions all brightened. They'd had enough of traveling on foot; flying would be much faster.
"Great idea!"
They immediately dashed off in pursuit of the Royal Army.
Before long, they reached the spot where the aircraft had landed, finding a large contingent of Kingdom soldiers guarding it.
"Who's there?!"
The Royal Army spotted them at once.
"It's Lucy from Fairy Tail!"
"There are two Lucys!"
"Arrest them all!!"
Natsu raised the magic sword in his hand. "This time, I'll redeem myself!"
Wendy hefted her jar-shaped magic weapon, the air cracker. "I've figured out how to use this!"
"Let's go!!"
"Yes!!"
"Ugh!!"
In just one exchange, Natsu and Wendy were both knocked flying.
"That didn't work at all…" Happy sighed, face-palming.
Carla wore the same dismayed look. "As expected, they still can't manage…"
"These two idiots…" Edolas' Lucy muttered when she saw Natsu and Wendy go down. Soldiers were now charging at her and Lisanna, so she immediately fought back.
"Watch me!" Lucy (Earthland) declared, stepping forward before Su Yan could act. She pulled out one of her Zodiac keys. "Open! Gate of the Golden Bull—Taurus!"
A golden magic circle flared, and the humanoid bull Celestial Spirit emerged. "Hoo—!! Lucy's figure is safe with me!!"
"Huh?!! Two Lucys again?!" Taurus was momentarily stunned.
"Don't worry about that—just beat those guys for me!"
"Aye—!" Taurus bellowed and charged the Kingdom soldiers.
"Waaah!!"
"Ughhhh!"
Taurus excelled at mowing down weaker foes, but these soldiers were no pushovers; they managed to keep him occupied.
"Take out that summoned creature—then go after Lucy!"
"Wait—?!"
Lucy couldn't summon another Spirit at the same time, so her offensive power was close to zero right now.
"Su Yan, help!!" She dashed behind him for cover.
Edolas' Lucy watched and couldn't help sighing. This scene was becoming all too familiar. She'd already seen both Natsu and Wendy hide behind Su Yan in the same way.
She turned to Lisanna. "Do the Earthland Fairy Tail folks just hide behind Su Yan?"
"Haha~~!" Lisanna laughed, having witnessed plenty over the last couple of days. In normal times, Natsu would never do this; he was usually the one charging forward. But without magic, he was effectively helpless. Honestly, Lisanna figured she'd have done the same thing and let Su Yan handle it.
Just then, the soldiers realized Su Yan was a threat and moved to attack him.
"Om—-!!"
In an instant, Su Yan unleashed his conqueror's Haki. A crushing aura spread out and slammed into the Royal Army.
Their eyes rolled back, and they collapsed one by one, foaming at the mouth.
Su Yan's command of conqueror's haki was at such a high level that even magicians with decent power had trouble withstanding it. For ordinary soldiers, there was no chance.
"All right," Su Yan said. "Let's head for the capital."
Edolas' Lucy couldn't believe how swiftly the entire skirmish had ended. She was used to fighting the Kingdom's forces herself, always running or hiding whenever they showed up. The Royal Army held most of the available magic power and possessed the best magic equipment, so she had long assumed they were unbeatable.
Yet now, after just two days with Su Yan and his team, she'd seen her view of the world turned upside down. Soldiers who once seemed terrifying had crumpled like paper before Su Yan.
And now they were really going to invade the Royal Capital—that enemy stronghold. She wasn't sure she was ready. Still, this man named Su Yan seemed unstoppable. Why wasn't there anyone like him in Edolas' Fairy Tail?
Meanwhile, the rest of the group didn't give it a second thought. They had witnessed Su Yan's strength time and again. Against foes like these, overwhelming them was only natural.
