Chapter 240: Pure Land Part (2)
I knew it!
Before Veil could finish speaking, Fu Qian was already feeling a sense of nostalgia.
Why am I not surprised at all!
Fu Qian still had a bit of an impression of Veil’s sister, that is, the Beast Claw Girl from the Ring Islands.
He distinctly remembered how Veil, in order to entrust him with delivering something for her, even went so far as to use her charm.
Updated by ℕ○vG○.c○Of course, even now, Fu Qian still didn’t know her name.
It seemed she was quite lucky, to actually have survived the accident in the lab.
To seek Transcendent power and be coaxed into having one’s hand chopped off and replaced with a claw, was quite rebellious indeed.
Dealing with such a rowdy kid was exhausting.
Speaking of which, her sister really had a knack for finding peculiar places to get into trouble. Not to mention the previous Ring Islands, now Byeluk also had its own mysterious ambiance.
At this moment, Veil also looked rather awkward, perhaps she was thinking of something.
“Did Mr. Fu just arrive here?”
Veil adjusted her mood and took the initiative to break the silence.
Updated by N○vG○.c○“Just call me Fu Qian.”
Fu Qian looked up into the distance. The group that had been with Veil was now leaving one by one, with many people constantly turning their heads to look back.
“Indeed, I haven’t been here long.”
“It looks like you haven’t settled down yet. The hotels around here are quite rudimentary. Would you consider staying at my place?”
Veil pointed at the suitcase at Fu Qian’s feet.
“Your place?”
“Yes, I have a temporary spot here, it’s fairly spacious. If you don’t mind…”
Veil’s tone was very sincere.
“You helped convey a message to Riet last time and I haven’t had the chance to thank you properly.”
So the Beast Claw Girl was named Riet.
“It was nothing.”
Fu Qian dismissively said.
“It may have been nothing to you, but for me, it was a matter of life and death.”
Veil smiled broadly.
“So please, don’t turn it down.”
…
Approximately half an hour later, Fu Qian followed Veil to her temporary residence, a delicately decorated two-story apartment.
“It’s very quiet here, with good privacy, great for resting, and it’s been freshly cleaned.”
As she led Fu Qian inside, Veil explained.
“I’m also temporarily staying here, borrowed from a distant relative.”
“You have relatives here?”
“Of course, strictly speaking, this is my homeland.”
Veil smiled.
“Even though my parents left before I was born, I still occasionally came back when I was a kid.”
So that was the case!
Fu Qian nodded in understanding.
He had waited for Veil outside the cemetery earlier precisely because he saw her attending a local funeral, deducing she might be familiar with the area. He didn’t expect her to be this familiar.
Considering he still didn’t have any leads on his mission, Fu Qian’s strategy was very straightforward—search for the anomaly.
After all, the death of a Demigod in this place couldn’t possibly stir up no ripples.
Having someone familiar with the locality would undoubtedly be very helpful at this time.
The apartment had an excellent location and view; Veil’s distant relative clearly came from a well-off family.
By now the sky had darkened. After carelessly throwing his things into the room Veil had arranged for him, Fu Qian went to the bathroom and scrutinized his reflection in the mirror.
A long overcoat adorned his frame, and a bowler hat sat atop his head, making him look every inch the traditional gentleman.
Then there was a knock on the door, and a woman looking like a servant entered, carrying a huge food container. She quickly set up a full table.
It was clear that dinner had arrived.
The maid was visibly surprised to see Fu Qian but maintained her etiquette and said nothing, retreating as soon as she had set things down.
By then, Veil had changed out of her clothes and politely invited Fu Qian to join her for dinner.
The dinner was not particularly large, but there was an abundance of dishes that were exquisitely prepared, and Fu Qian enjoyed it immensely.
“I really didn’t expect to encounter you here.”
Veil obviously didn’t have much of an appetite and stopped eating after a little, smiling wistfully.
“But this place is indeed a great spot for a retreat, I remember not wanting to leave every time I came here as a child.”
“Indeed, but you shouldn’t be able to come in now, should you?”
Shush!
Veil put a finger to her lips.
“Indeed, some methods were necessary, but nobody here knows I am a Transcendent.”
“Why is there such a strange rule, has it been like this since you were little?”
“Yeah.”
Veil nodded affirmatively.
“It’s been a tradition for many years now, and it has the Night Watchman’s approval.”
“I thought they didn’t welcome the Night Watchman either!”
“How could that be? If that were the case, this place simply couldn’t be maintained, after all, any Transcendent who wanted to force their way in would be more than the enforcers could handle.”
“This place needs the Night Watchman’s protection more than anywhere else.”
“I understand now.”
Fu Qian nodded.
It was clear that Veil must have, like himself, forged some kind of identity to infiltrate this place.
“Did your sister specifically run here to hide from you because of this peculiar rule?”
“Maybe, she really doesn’t want to see me…”
When mentioning her sister Riet, Veil sighed deeply.
“When that accident happened at the Ring Islands last time, I found a way to sneak into Inner Island, and fortunately, I ran into her by luck.”
Veil chose her words carefully, considering the accident was allegedly caused by the very person in front of her.
“That’s also when I found out about her hand… Anyway, she had just escaped, was very scared, and just clung to me, crying.
Later, I found a way to heal her from her affliction, then took her away from there.”
“Unfortunately, not long after, I returned one day to find she had disappeared again.”
Veil looked helpless.
“After asking around a lot, I found out she actually ran back here.
Then I found a way to blend in, thinking of keeping a watch over her for a bit, as her wounds hadn’t fully healed.”
This one really had her heart broken!
“Does she know you’re here?”
“Definitely not.”
Veil shook her head.
“If she knew, she would have reported me by now, and I definitely wouldn’t be able to stay any longer.”
What immense resentment this must be!
Fu Qian mused.
But considering her sister chose the drastic measure of cutting off an arm to gain Transcendent power, Riet’s attitude wasn’t hard to understand.
Having no talent herself while her sister was a cultivation genius, it was normal to feel psychologically unbalanced.
Veil undoubtedly cared deeply for her sister, but the more she did, the easier it was to stimulate a defiant mindset in her immature mind.
“Have you heard of a Demigod named Herrom?”
Fu Qian was evidently not very concerned with other people’s gossip, and after a few casual remarks, he swiftly brought the conversation to his own mission.
“Herrom? Of course, I know him.”
“He’s a very senior Demigod who must have been promoted decades ago. It’s said he’s proficient in many bizarre methods and is very powerful.”
“But…”
Veil hesitated.
“His reputation isn’t particularly good, there are claims that he’s quite cold and cruel.”
