Chapter 4: Survival
The man took out a dagger of his own from his ring and pointed at me.
"You like playing with daggers huh? I also have one here. With this, I gauge out your eyes and roat them to eat. Then I will roast your guts where you managed to muster such courage. Then I will roast your chest that survived after getting a kick from me, hahahahaha. I will roast everyone in this world one day and eat them, haha...haha!!!!"
'Is...he...brainless...'
I could not help but question his sanity for a second. I also suffered in my life but even I didn't fall to the extent that this guy.
I just accepted my fate as my body was not moving at all. Death was inevitable at this point. I don't even know why this man wants to kill me.
"Let's finish this quickly now. You shitty brat! You made my mood sour. I don't enjoy killing trash who don't beg for mercy. By the way, a certain someone from House Nerona sent their regards," he said and then was to pierce my heart with his dagger when suddenly, I saw the man stumbled and falling on his knees. He began to feel uncomfortable and clutched his chest in pain.
A grin formed on my bloody mouth as I looked at the man. Even if I'm going to die today, at least I will take this motherfucker with me.
"P-poison...huff...huff...when...dagger?!!" The man muttered in surprise.
From the looks of it, the fucker is only the low-level Deviant if a poison of this meager lethality is working on him. Well, I prepared the dagger for emergency moments like this, but unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to put on a good and fulfilling last fight of this life.
The man fell and lost consciousness as the poison was decently lethal.
I saw the man lying behind me as I tried to move with all my strength. I raised my arm and put the knife in his throat...
*slit*
I mustered all my strength into that one attack and slit his throat. Crimson-red blood flowed out of his throat and created a pool of blood where I was lying. I managed to roll away so that I didn't have to get drenched in that idiot's blood.
Suddenly, the same cold mechanical voice resounded in my head.
[Enemy Killed!]
[Soul Fragment absorbed!]
[Ding! Fire Affinity Acquired!]
"..."
I heard the voice as a strange, unknown knowledge flooded my mind. It was neither painful nor soothing...it just felt...heavy.
A sudden feeling of tiredness compelled me to close my eyes and I fell asleep. I couldn't keep myself awake even if I wanted to.
***
"...Up!"
"....wake...Up!"
"Wake Up!"
"Unm..." Suddenly a male voice entered my ears as an unfamiliar ceiling welcomed my sight.
I looked around cautiously and found myself in a dilapidated place filled with rubble all over the place.
I saw a male and a female sitting a few feet away while frying something over the fire.
The middle-aged man had a big and bulky body as he stood tall around 6.5 feet. Height. He had a thick grey beard, and his long grey hair was covered under a strange military cap. Had a slightly tan skin. He looked in my direction as his sharp black eyes landed on me.
As for the girl, she seems to be in her early twenties or maybe the same age as me. She had a beautiful thin face. His short blonde hair gave her a cute tomboyish look as she clad in baggy clothes. She had fair, white, flawless skin. She also instinctively looked in my direction as she noticed the man's gaze.
"You, brat! Finally decided to wake up, huh?" He said with a smile on his face that didn't suit his bulky body and personality at all.
"Who...are you?" I asked but then felt surprised as I realized that my injuries had healed and I could speak again.
"Relax kiddo. By the way, I wasted three expensive healing potions on you; make sure to pay me as soon as you can," he stated as he looked at his storage ring with a sad expression.
"..."
"Father, can you be serious? We are in the middle of a dungeon here," the girl spoke with the same straight face, but she also took some curiosity-filled glances at me. But, as soon as she noticed my gaze she hurriedly looked at the man.
"Oi kiddo, stay away from my daughter" The man noticed our little eye interaction as he hurriedly spoke.
"..." I silently looked at him in confusion. I don't even do anything, and he thinks I'm wooing his daughter?! Wait for a second; why does a gorilla-like him have a beautiful daughter like her in the first place?!
"You don't know me?" The girl asked with the same straight face as she looked at me.
"...No" I answered. This is the first time I've seen this girl, why would she think I would know her in the first place?"
"See that? He is arrogant. I told you we shouldn't have saved him in the first place!" She screamed in anger as soon as she heard my answer.
"..." I didn't even know what was wrong with this at this point. This father-daughter duo seems to be having bipolar disorder, to be honest.
"Indeed, my princess. He arrogant! Let's dispose of him right now. No one would even discover what happened to him in this dungeon"
The man spoke as he gently massaged the girl's head.
Hearing their conversation, I didn't waste my time as I hurriedly tried to take the dagger out of my ring, but suddenly, I realized that I didn't have my dagger with me.
*screech*
The man threw a dagger, and it landed on my feet. It was my dagger.
"Are you looking for this? By the way, that was damn clean, kid. Are you trained in some sort of combat arts related to daggers?" Man asked.
"Dad, you still haven't introduced us to him" the girl pointed out as she stood up and took out the mask from her ring. She put the mask on her face as her appearance suddenly changed into a familiar one.
"Yana?!" I screamed in surprise and confusion as her familiar face triggered some memories.
Her average-looking face combined with her glasses that are not there for now, she is no doubt the Yana that I know.
She was from the same school I used to go to. Our classes were different, but I saw her a few times back there. But we never had any interaction with each other ever, nor was she one of the toppers, so we never met in any debate, competition, or event. She was just that...average...a person who always goes under the radar in anything they do.
She removed the mask, and her appearance once again changed to her cute, tomboyish look that showed the massive co-trust between the two different appearances.
"Well, at least know me. You are not as arrogant as others say about you. By the way, my real name is Sarah, Sarah Cromwell and he is my father, Fernandez Cromwell." She said.
"Ethan Holmes..." I said as I picked up the dagger and just kept it by my side. I felt at ease now.
"Who was the person you killed?" Fernandez asked as he looked at me with a serious face.
"I don't know. He tried to kill me, so I killed him," I said. I had no regret killing the person.
"Hmm. You look awfully fine despite killing a person..." he asked again, his sharp gaze on me as if trying to see each and every reaction of mine to see if I was lying or not. Too bad I have nothing to hide, nor do I have any intention to hide. I don't sense any danger from them, and they can potentially help me go back home, so better to be honest with each other.
