Chapter 496: The Pulse and Spark
--
A beating pulse echoed in the void.
It made no sound, and it didn't disturb too much. In fact, the pulse was weak, barely present, yet it's there.
It's a little hard to believe that this kind of movement occurs in a place like this when in fact, there shouldn't be anything here aside from nothingness itself.
This is the Heart of the Void, also known as the Point of No Return to any living creatures of the Primordial Chaos. Continue your saga on My Virtual Library Empire
The Heart of Void lies at the very depths of the abyssal void. Actually, the space it occupies barely spans a hundred miles, yet this zone was the real 'danger zone' in the void simply because this is where the void originated.
...at least, that's what the ancients have told their descendants.
In reality, its size of 100 miles was just a generous estimation. Nothing in the void makes sense to living beings. If there's anything constant in it, it could only be change. Living beings should be wise enough to not measure the void's capabilities according to their logical standards because the void will only prove them wrong every time.
In truth, nobody knows just how massive the void is, including the Heart of the Void itself. Sure, the heart of the void might only cover a humble 100-mile distance, but in a place like that, even a kilometer distance would seem like worlds apart. The void has the special means to mess with people's perception of everything, after all.
And the closer one is to the Heart of the Void, the worse this gets. Even those cutting-edge Void Suits are unable to prevent their users from this.
But whether the Heart of the Void is as big as they said or bigger than they expected, smaller even, it doesn't change the fact that it's a place that no living being could trespass.
The appearance of it in itself was already a warning. The void is already weird, like an uncolored and unfinished page of a comic book or a nightmare-inducing kids' storybook. It's just filled with outlines and such, and it's also crawling with void creatures.
But the Heart of the Void? Well, nobody would miss it. Because it has a color being pitch black, the kind that swallows all light or color. Pure and utter darkness and nothingness. That's the Heart of the Void, the Point of No Return. A line that no living creature could cross.
Many have tried before. Each one was a unique and heroic figure of their era. Yet the only constant factor among them is that none of them lived to tell the tale. Once they entered the Heart of the Void, they were never seen again.
It is for this very reason that this place was dubbed as the 'Point of No Return.'. It is also why nobody doubted that this is where the void originated as well.
With all the known harmful things that the Void can do to a living being, it would make sense why some people would think that there's only nothingness in its heart, which makes the presence of that faint pulse unbelievable.
'The Void hates the Primordial Chaos for disrupting its silence. It is for this reason that it created its own creatures to enact its will. It wanted everything to return to its original state, the Eternal Silence.'
This was one of the most common conclusions Occult Decoders could come up with. And with their recent discoveries, especially after Cedric displayed his talent at All Speak, this passage became even more solid and convincing.
But there is truly a pulse there...it's faint, but it's there. It's coming from the seemingly bottomless abyss of the void. It doesn't create sound nor any disruptive movement. It's just... there.
And it's not alone...
Not too far from where the pulse was coming from were numerous pairs of pale eyes. They appear like orbs of light, contrasting the pitch-black darkness within the Heart of the Void.
These silhouettes either only have a single pair or have multiple ones. However, it doesn't really matter how many eyes they have. What's important is that they are somehow present within the Heart of the Void, and they have formed a perimeter around the origin of the pulse.
It's as if they're guarding that weak and faint pulse from any intruders that might snuff it out.
Even if someone were to come here, bearing extraordinary luck, making it all the way here without losing their sanity due to the pitch-black darkness of this place, nobody would be able to tell what kind of creature they're looking at. Hell, they might not even see them in the first place because these creatures will certainly kill anything that comes here uninvited by their 'Mother.'.
Roughly a month ago, this pulse wasn't as strong as it is now. Yes, this faint and almost unnoticeable palpitations were already considered very strong.
It only got this strong because of the very recent supplement used to it. It was a prime sample, a very rare delicacy that the creature within the pulse greedily devoured, allowing it to show even stronger signs of vitality in its own morbid way.
That supplement was very good, especially since it contains a very faint but very noticeable trace of Primordial Chaos Air, the very element that the void wanted to swallow ever since it appeared.
This supplement was none other than the flesh and soul of the Young Dragon Patriarch.
This Primordial Chaos Air was a unique trait that he never used. Hell, he never even knew he had it. And even if he knew, he wouldn't be able to use it since it is virtually useless. It's because the Primordial Chaos Air was like an ID, which only gives him the identity of someone coming from the Primordial Chaos and nothing more.
Everybody who was born with the Primeval Scarlet Dust Realm contains the breath of Primordial Chaos; some had higher concentration than the rest, especially the race that was born right after the birth of Primordial Chaos.
This group obviously involves members of 'The Six,' and the Wise Dragon Clan stands at the very peak of this ladder.
Moreover, the Young Dragon Patriarch specifically contains a very rich and nutritious destiny that has been devoured by the creature within the pulse, becoming a potent nutrient source to make it stronger and more active.
Just by devouring this one person solved most of the complications that might've killed this creature even before it was born. That's how potent it was.
And obviously, it craves more. The Mother demands more of this nutritious ingredient to not only accelerate the birth of this creature but also make it stronger while it's still incubating.
Sadly, the supply obviously couldn't meet the demand. In fact, any additional nutrient sources of the unborn creature coming from the Primordial Chaos had seemingly disappeared for quite some time now. So much so that not even the puniest ones could be seen.
And since there are no living creatures to feed on, the growth and birth of this creature slowed down considerably. But again, due to the nourishing supplement it just consumed, most of the possible threats to its conception have already been eliminated.
Right now, it wouldn't be wrong to say that this was one of the most guarded places within the void. All of the monstrous creature here was considered as the loyal retainers of this unborn creature. Meaning that they've already dedicated their lives to whoever or whatever it is that's under that pulse.
Of course, one of these creatures was the gigantic blob of eyes and mouth, the very same creature that toyed with the Young Dragon Patriarch and offered him as a sacrifice to the still-growing Prince.
It had managed to join the ranks of the Void Prince's retainers and never felt so happy and fortunate to be here.
Dub Dub! Dub Dub!
Every single one of the creatures guarding the unborn prince was alerted. They hurriedly prostrated themselves in the general direction of the pulse, barely keeping their shit together.
Exhilaration, anticipation, impatience, and excitement flooded their veins. That pulse was certainly louder and more vigorous than before, which only means that the anticipated moment was about to arrive, and they could hardly wait for it.
Some of them could even already see the glorious future before them. They are already imagining scenes of their pilgrimage to the Primordial Chaos, following the Prince as he ushered the return of the Eternal Silence.
However, their daydreaming was cut short by something else.
BOOOOOOOM!!
Alarm and fright coursed through their entire bodies as they barely guarded themselves from the unexpected impact.
Amidst the pitch-black darkness of the void, traces of colors appeared. It was very brief since it was being swallowed by the pitch darkness of the void itself, but it was there too.
Even without words, they immediately knew where this came from. But what truly made them berserk is that these things appeared so close to their dear prince.
That alone was enough for them to bare their fangs to the sender of this explosion.
If only they knew that this was just the first salvo amongst the millions prepared by the alliance...
