Chapter 496: The offensive Part 3
Seeing Luna like that was painful to say the least. In the past, Uriel wouldn't have hesitated to give her a hug, even while he was under Water warlock's influence. Just because he didn't experience emotions it didn't mean he couldn't tell what was the right thing to do. Now, however, things were different.
They were in a dire situation and their time was running out. That's why, instead of giving her the comfort Luna desperately needed, he decided to talk sense into her by using logic and reason.
"Luna, I know exactly how you feel, I'm quite overwhelmed right now, but this isn't the time to be overwhelmed. You say Medusa left with the Mapple corporation, it's unlikely, but even if that's the truth then at least she's safe. We aren't," Uriel spoke calmly looking her directly in the eye and the continued. "I think I know what's going on, but I need your help to figure things out."
"I'll help." Luna nodded with tears still soaking her cheeks. Uriel smiled bitterly thinking that if Nika was there, she would probably call him a monster for not comforting Luna, but he needed help and there was no one more suitable for that than the girl obsessed with cryptids.
"I think Sam lured the two holy rank hunters outside the city in order to create a dungeon beneath this city. What are your thoughts?"
"What are the facts?" Luna asked.
"My first thought was that he wanted to play the long game and slowly amass power in this city until he was able to take control over it, but it seems like Water warlock gave him the confidence to rush it..."
"I asked about the facts, not your opinion." Luna rebuked.
"My bad. Sam created an army of human cryptid hybrids using vampires, skinwalkers, wendigos and eclipses. Mark said eclipses are on our side since their relationship with humans is symbiotic rather than predatory and even though I think he's as fake as the loch ness monster..."
"Nessie is real, use another example, like the holy grail." Luna cut him short.
"But the holy grail's existence has never been disproven... oh! I see what you did there. Fine, I think he's as fake as... as... as a 3 credit bill," Uriel muttered the first thing that came to mind and then continued, this time being more mindful not to fall into what could be an hour long argument about each others field of study.
"there's no reason to doubt him. It seems he's been monitoring my movements and he gave me enough evidence to prove cryptid's presence inside the city and the Fallen corporation's misdoings."
"Continue." Luna nodded.
"As you also know, dungeon structures get repaired when you crush flux orbs nearby, which led me to believe that flux orbs are also needed to create dungeons which would explain how did the nosferatu managed to build a dungeon. Everything points towards Sam wanting to amass power by creating a dungeon beneath the city."
"Your conclusion is correct, but you're mistaken," Luna said with her accustomed blank face and not a trace of her ever being sad. "I watched the Vlog you sent us before the signal went off and I know what's going on. You're assuming the nosferatu built the underground structure because it wanted to, not because Sam ordered it.
You're also assuming that flux orbs are needed to build the dungeon and that's an error."
"Really? I thought it made sense." With just a few words, Luna was able to leave Uriel questioning everything he thought he knew and it made him realize just how helpful Luna was. Even if the one mistaken ended up being her, discussing this matters with someone as intelligent as her was way better than talking to himself.
"You claim there's evidence of dungeons being built by an ancient civilization, let's consider it your starting point. I know for a fact that cryptids have been present in human history, my existence stands as a proof to that, let's consider this my starting point."
"Agreed." Uriel nodded.
"Dungeons and cryptids are tight knit, which means that cryptids must have existed alongside that ancient civilization. Do you concur?"
"Of course."
"When we went to the Alamo, you said that dungeons were some sort of jail to seal a horror that could potentially destroy kill everyone. Then you said that horror were the air spirit people, even though they were peacerful, they could potentially breed with humans and create an abomination. Correct?"
"I think I see where you're going. Dungeons and cryptids are on the same side. The structure being repaired when flux orbs are crushed nearby is a self repairing mechanism, then it means that buildings were most likely built with..."
"Human sacrifices," Luna cut him short. "Sam didn't just turn against the city, he's been plotting against humanity since he came back from Easter Island. The offensive was never meant to kill the titan, you said it yourself, that thing is immortal and it's true body is most likely inside the dungeon.
The true 'offensive' is against humanity and by the time the two holy rank hunters return, if they do, it will be too late since Sam would have already built his own dungeon."
Their conversation came to an end with Luna's finishing explanation and although it was by no means an emotional conversation, both parties felt better afterwards. It was the sort of deep talk Uriel could have with no one in the world but Luna. To no surprise of him, it was a fruitful and humbling experience which made him appreciate having someone like her as a friend.
As they fell silent still looking directly into each other's eyes they soon realized they were blushing.
"Well, then I guess we should start an 'offensive' of our own." Uriel said after softly slapping his cheeks to snap out of his daze.
"Uriel," Luna began speaking and Uriel feared the next words that would come out her mouth, but she continued without minding his troubled expression. In spite of how he acted, he wasn't blind to Luna's feelings for him, but he didn't want to ruin their friendship like he thought he did with Medusa. "You can't go alone. If we are correct, then getting to Sam will be impossible."
"I'm not planning to. There's a few people inside this very ship that can help us, but first we need to warn the citizens about the Fallen corporation."
"And how exactly do you plan to do that? I tried to take as many people with me as possible, but no one believed me when I said this city was in danger." Luna replied.
"That was before the wall fell. Even if it was only a small portion, it could be seen from anywhere in the city and it's impossible it went unnoticed."
"You can convince them they're in danger now, but how will you get them to follow you instead of falling into chaos?" Luna insisted.
"We need a symbol, something that can rally people behind us without question..."
"I have the solution." Medusa said after bursting inside.
"Where have you been!?" Uriel asked, somewhat startled by her sudden appearance.
"Luna opened my eyes recently. She asked me if I was a Dungeon Raider or the heir of the Mapple corporation heiress." She explained.
"Your presence here suggest you chose us." Luna said with the same tone anyone would read a grocery list, but inside her chest her heart raced with emotion.
"I was born in the Works family and even when I tried to run away my family haunted me wherever I went and struggling against who I am is impossible."
"So, you're with the Mapple corp. now?" Uriel scratched the back of his head.
"No, you silly. I'm also a Dungeon Raider, I don't have to choose because I can be both."
"You still haven't answered, where were you?" Luna insisted.
"Come with me, you guys are going to love this." Medusa said as she took them outside the hangar where they expected a Mapple corporation army to appear out of nowhere, though they were unable to see anything other than Medusa looking proud.
"I don't see anything." Luna muttered after scanning the area.
"That's because Miss Medusa is pointing to the wrong direction," Seiren pointed to the west where six Mapple corp zeppelins at big as the Pegasus headed towards the city were revealed. They were at a distance from each other, but the nearest one was soon to arrive. "Mister Jon asked me to evacuate Miss Medusa to the west coast whether she wanted or not."
"How many times do I have to tell you, we're not going to the west coast! We need to evacuate the citizens to the Alamo where they will be safe." Medusa crossed her arms.
"Actually, there's a couple things we need to do before that," Uriel butted in and then continued. "We need to restore phone service and make a Vlog."
