Chapter 8: Ch 8: How about we talk about it? - Part 1
The wooden doors of the Association main office stood in front of Raven and Shura. But while one grinned as he saw these doors, the other took deep breaths to calm himself down.
"Raven, before we head inside, I need you to listen to me carefully. Things are no longer like they used to be, so don't try and brute-force your way through this. Be civil and—"
"Tsk, you yap too much, Shura. Don't forget who you're talking to here. I don't care about some powerless old men telling me what to do. Now, let's go and make some noise."
Raven threw the door open, and the association members sitting inside immediately became alert.
Shura could only sigh and face-palm as he saw this happening.
He felt powerless to stop Raven, so the only thing he could do was some damage control and make sure no one died because of Raven's explosive temper.
"W-Who is there? Is this an attack? Hurry up and call security. We have a terrorist in here—"
An association member quickly recovered and ordered this. He was the first one to recover, but that did not last long.
Raven's hand grabbed the talking member, and Raven gave him the most innocent smile ever when he looked at that man.
"Did you just call me a terrorist? I don't think you understand what you're saying, mister. I would be more careful about what I say if I were you."
A stunned silence followed Raven's words as everyone turned to look at him. For a whole minute, no one did anything, and then, chaos erupted.
Most of the members of the association were old and had been in power for more than ten years at this point.
As such, they were well aware of who Raven was. They only needed a single glance to be able to recognize him.
But for the newer members, it was a different case, and many of them made dissatisfied expressions when they looked at Raven.
Among these new and emerging powers, one was particularly vicious, and his name was Jeremey Horland. He immediately stood up and raised his voice.
"Fucking hell! Who does this man think he is? Someone, get him out of here…ugh, forget about it. I'll do it myself."
The man raised his hand, but nothing happened. Jeremey Horland looked startled as his powers failed to take effect.
[You cannot use the skill Persuasion on the target.]
"What the hell is happening? This has never happened before. Hey—! What did you do? Are you using your skills in real life? Don't you know that it's a crime?"
Jeremey yelled loudly, and his voice attracted everyone.
It was hypocritical for him to say these words, considering what he had just tried to do. But he knew his position well.
He had too many allies to get into trouble, and even if he did, he had the excuse that this was self-defense. He would be just fine.
But first, he needed to take care of this person who appeared out of nowhere and was causing all this trouble.
"Well, fuck! First you call me a terrorist, and now you're calling me a criminal? Don't you know you're just making me more and more angry?"
Raven asked as he finally let the unconscious association leader in his hands fall. Instead, he turned his attention toward Jeremey Horland and took a look at his profile.
[Passive Skill—System control has activated. You will not get to look at target's system profile.]
Name: Jeremey Horland.
Overall level: 55
Special Traits: Leadership: 75
Passive Skill: Persuasion (does not affect user due to difference in levels)
Overall assessment: An overall average man with a capability for leadership.]
That profile was nothing special, and Raven chuckled as he read it. He instantly knew that this man was all talk and no bite.
"What are you laughing at? Do you find all this funny? Fuck! You just don't know how deep my connections run. I even know one of the 'Ten Heroes of Humanity'. If anything happens to me, then you would also—"
Raven could not keep himself in check anymore, and the laughter burst out of his system at that.
"Oh! So you know one of those 'Other nine losers?' Then call for them. Let me see what they can do against me as well."
Raven's confidence was through the roof, and it made Jeremey and the other association leaders uneasy. They needed to take care of him as soon as possible, so they decided to call for backup.
Before they could even call anyone, Shura recovered and quickly stepped inside the room before anyone could be killed.
Shura quickly runs inside the room and places a firm hand on Raven's shoulder. His grip is tight, not enough to hurt, but enough to send a message.
"Hey, that's enough. Let's stop before someone ends up dead here."
Raven glances at Shura, his expression unreadable.
His grip on Jeremey loosens, but not completely. The tension in the room remains thick.
It is clear to everyone present that this is merely a temporary truce—if Raven is not given a compelling reason to stop, he will resume exactly what he was doing, without hesitation.
The association members, previously frozen in fear or anger, suddenly find a lifeline in Shura's presence. Their desperate gazes shift to him, silently pleading for help. Someone finally speaks up, his voice trembling yet insistent.
"Shura! You have to control him! Teach him a lesson! He can't just come in here and do whatever he wants!"
Shura doesn't respond immediately.
He knew Raven too well. A fight won't work—Raven is not in the mood to listen, much less be subdued. If anything, challenging him would only make things worse.
Raven might have been coined as 'humanity's saviour' but he was closer to a demon most of the time. He was ruthless and liked to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.
Taking action was not going to work. Instead, Shura takes a deep breath and chooses the one approach that might actually work: reason.
