Chapter 5: Ch 5: Can't you be normal? - Part 1
Leo had never ran as fast as he did at that moment. He ran because he feared for his life. The madman that was chasing after him was close by.
That look-alike was terrifying as he followed after Leo, but the real nightmare began once he had been caught.
Leo groaned, rubbing his temples.
"Gods, you're impossible…"
Leo took a deep breath, trying to regain some composure.
"In case you forgot, it's illegal to use powers outside of the arena! If you get caught using abilities out here, you can get locked up! And guess what? I can get dragged down with you just for being here!"
Raven tilted his head, unconcerned.
"The police, huh? Meh. No big deal. It's not as if those cowards can do much against me."
Leo scoffed.
"Oh yeah? Try telling that to the Enforcers when they throw you into a suppression cell."
Raven waved a hand dismissively.
"Please. If they try, I'll just break out."
Leo groaned again, looking ready to have an aneurysm.
"Look, since you're apparently my dad's guest or whatever, how about we just go back home and talk things out before the police actually—"
His words were cut off as the distant but unmistakable sound of sirens filled the air.
WEEEOOO! WEEEOOO!
Red and blue lights flashed in the distance, rapidly growing brighter.
Then came the sharp, commanding voice amplified through a megaphone.
"ATTENTION, UNKNOWN INDIVIDUALS! YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF POWER REGULATION CODE. STAND DOWN IMMEDIATELY!"
Leo paled.
"Oh, fantastic. We're too late."
Raven turned to the approaching authorities, watching as several heavily armed officers in reinforced exo-suits stepped out of their vehicles.
Their armor bore the crest of the city's Power Regulation Unit—a special division trained to deal with rogue ability users.
More sirens blared as additional police cars screeched to a stop, forming a barrier around them.
Several officers raised their weapons, energy batons crackling, their expressions unreadable behind their helmets.
Leo immediately raised his hands.
"Alright! Alright! This is just a misunderstanding! I swear—"
The megaphone blared again.
"KNEEL. HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEADS. NON-COMPLIANCE WILL BE MET WITH FORCE."
Leo gulped. He slowly began to comply, shooting Raven a pointed look.
"See? This is why I told you to stop!"
Raven, on the other hand, looked more bored than worried. He sighed, rubbing the back of his head.
"Man, I really don't feel like dealing with this right now. But if these people want a fight, then I will give them one. You can just stand back and-"
Leo's eyes widened.
"Hey listen, please don't do anything stupid."
Raven smirked.
"Oh, but stupid things are so fun. Especially when someone else has to pay for it."
Before Leo could respond, Raven vanished.
One moment, he was standing next to Leo. The next, he was a blur, reappearing behind the nearest officer.
With fluid precision, he snatched the energy baton straight from the officer's grip before the man could even react.
"Whoa there, guys. No need for all the hostility."
The officers tensed, their weapons shifting toward him.
"UNKNOWN INDIVIDUAL, SURRENDER IMMEDIATELY!"
Raven twirled the stolen baton between his fingers, unfazed.
"Yeah, see, the problem is, I don't really do the whole 'surrender' thing."
Leo internally screamed. Why is he like this?!
The officers didn't hesitate. In the blink of an eye, several of them lunged forward, aiming to subdue him—
—only for Raven to disappear again.
A gust of wind followed in his wake. In the next instant, the officers found themselves disarmed, their weapons ripped away before they could react.
The last thing they saw before being knocked back by a burst of force was Raven, smirking as he spun their confiscated weapons in his hands.
Leo facepalmed.
"Oh my god. We are so screwed."
The tension in the air thickened as the officers adjusted their stances, fingers hovering over their stun triggers.
Their body language screamed unease, their grips tightening around their remaining weapons as they silently communicated with each other through their helmets.
One of them murmured into his comms.
"Suspect is highly skilled. Possibly using system and restricted skills. Requesting immediate backup—"
Before he could finish, a sharp voice cut through the commotion.
"That won't be necessary."
The officers turned, their expressions shifting from apprehension to relief as a familiar figure approached.
Shura Black strode toward them, his posture firm yet relaxed, exuding the effortless authority that had made him one of humanity's most respected figures.
His presence alone was enough to make the police hesitate.
One of the officers immediately stepped forward, his helmet tilting slightly in what looked like respect.
"Shura Black! Thank the heavens. We could use your assistance. We've got two rogue ability users here, resisting detainment. One of them is exceptionally dangerous—"
Shura barely glanced at the group of officers before his gaze landed on Raven.
The younger man stood among the scattered, disarmed officers, looking thoroughly amused.
His smirk was practically dripping with mischief, his eyes gleaming like a predator who had just found a new toy to play with.
Shura let out a long, exhausted sigh.
"Of course, it's you. Why can't you let me lie in peace?"
Raven grinned.
"Hey, old man. Took you long enough."
The officers looked back and forth between the two, confused by the familiarity.
One of them hesitated before asking.
"You… know them?"
Shura pinched the bridge of his nose before nodding.
"Yes, and trust me, this is a massive misunderstanding."
The officers stiffened.
"Sir, with all due respect—"
Shura cut them off.
"Listen. I get why you're on edge, but I can personally vouch that there is no threat here."
The lead officer hesitated, clearly skeptical.
"Sir, we saw this man use abilities in public, and he assaulted several officers."
Shura groaned, shooting Raven a tired look.
"Seriously? Assault? What did you do?"
Raven shrugged innocently.
"I barely touched them."
Shura exhaled through his nose before turning back to the officers.
"Look, I understand your concerns, but trust me—this situation is under control."
The officers still seemed doubtful, but Shura's reputation carried weight.
After a long pause, the lead officer finally relented.
"…Fine. We'll give you the benefit of the doubt, Shura. But if anything else happens—"
Shura nodded.
"It won't."
At least, he hoped it wouldn't. But with Raven around… he wasn't making any promises.
