Dumped When Pregnant, Chased by Ex-Husband

Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Prenatal Examination

Austin Moore had looked down on Aria Knight, that tea-fragranced lady, three years ago, and just thinking about that bastard wanting to divorce his wife for that woman made him angry,

"Scumbag, doesn't deserve my drink. Clara is such a nice girl, obviously easy to bully, how could she end up with a bastard like you?"

Edward Harper chuckled coldly,

"She's easy to bully? Do you know how much money she wants from me?

One billion, she wants one billion just to divorce, she can't wait to change her marital status."

"Oh? That's too little."

The two had nearly finished their stock of liquor, and by the end, their tongues were tangled, Edward Harper still muttering,

"Tomorrow at ten in the morning, whoever doesn't show up is a son of a bitch."

...

Edward Harper had vanished for a whole night, and everyone at the old house thought he hadn't come back last night, only Clara Knox knew he had stormed off in the middle of the night and probably returned to Jade Dragon Bay Apartments afterward.

At breakfast, the old man was cursing again,

"Damned fool, wait until I get to deal with him."

The breakfast was eaten in trepidation, no one daring to speak.

Bella Harper's eyes restlessly glanced over at Clara Knox, curious how she had managed to come out.

Clara had important things to take care of today, and not wanting to stir up trouble, she ignored her.

After breakfast, Clara said goodbye to her grandparents-in-law and left the house alone, without even using a driver.

She first stopped at a pharmacy on the roadside to buy a few pregnancy test strips, then found a public restroom.

She followed the instructions on the test strip, and in less than five minutes, she saw the bright red double lines. She opened the remaining two and tried again, still double lines.

Clara sat on the toilet and started sobbing uncontrollably, she had once hoped so much to have a baby with him, but now that they were getting a divorce, what was she to do?

Edward Harper, before getting intimate with her, even if rushed, would always stop and take precautions, so this baby was not easily conceived.

But his attitude made it clear he did not want to have a child with her, otherwise, why would he be consistent with the precautions.

After crying for a long while and hearing someone coming, she gathered her emotions and came out.

Her household registration book was in her suitcase, which she had left in Isaac Turner's car the day before, so she needed to go to Isaac's home to get it.

Unsure whether he was home or not, Clara first made a call to him, and after two rings, the call was answered.

"Isaac, are you at home?"

"Don't even mention it, my old man had emergency appendicitis surgery, and I came back in the middle of the night to keep him company. I might have to stay here for a few days before going back to Capital City, Scum Harper didn't mess with you yesterday, right?"

"No worries, I just need to get my suitcase, my household registration book is inside it, I'm supposed to go with Edward to change our marital status today."

"Oh, then you'll probably have to wait a few days, your suitcase is in the trunk of my car, I forgot to take it out yesterday, but the home door code hasn't changed, you can go over anytime to stay, the guest room on the second floor is always available for you."

Clara was touched for a long time, and after hanging up the phone, she wandered the streets aimlessly, passing by a bank, she tried to check one of her bank accounts and surprisingly found it was available, figuring Edward Harper still had some conscience.

The account had a few hundred thousand in balance, enough for her to spend for a while.

She planned to rent a place first, and pick up the jewelry design skill she had put aside three years ago.

The ruby pendant that had been stolen was a design she did for a luxury jewelry company in M country called swan, and the contract she signed required her to release one design every six months.

Now with the design stolen, she had to make up for it.

Time flashed to ten o'clock, and Clara felt anxious, unsure how to brazenly explain to Edward that her household registration book was not with her.

She mustered up the courage, found a quiet spot, and called Edward.

At the Imperial Grande penthouse suite, the phone rang several times without answer.

Edward Harper woke up amidst a flurry of punches and kicks, and before even opening his eyes, he heard Austin Moore cursing at him,

"You bastard, snuggle all you want, but what's with the constant groping on my chest?"

Edward Harper was fully sober now, and after seeing the person on the other side of the bed, he kicked disdainfully, almost sending Austin Moore onto the floor.

He only remembered that they had drunk too much yesterday, how did they end up on the same bed?

Austin was on the verge of exploding, ranting about being unclean, and dirty now.

"Scum! You're just scum! You have a wife at home, a mistress outside, and you don't even spare a brother, are two kidneys enough for you, you bastard, were you pretending I was Aria just now?"

Thinking of how he had mistakenly touched her all night long thinking she was that green tea bitch Aria Knight, Austin Moore broke out in goosebumps.

Edward Harper felt irritated,

"What nonsense are you talking about? I've never laid a finger on Aria."

Austin looked at him suspiciously, "Do you think I can believe that?"

"Believe it or not, what do I have to explain to you? I have my own moral standards and won't touch her until the divorce. Besides, Aria is such a pure girl, she wouldn't be so casual about these things."

Austin watched his earnest face and decided to believe him for the moment, but felt a bit nauseated hearing him call Aria Knight pure.

"Have you ever heard that most women find it harder to forgive men who cheat in their hearts?"

Edward suddenly had a name pop into his mind, and he let out a cold laugh without another word.

Who was it that cheated in their heart and even called out someone else's name in their dreams?

The phone rang again at that moment.

Edward glanced at his watch; it was already a quarter past ten.

Wondering if Clara Knox was getting impatient waiting on the other end, he felt somewhat uneasy as he answered the call.

"Director Harper, have you arrived?"

The address as Director Harper almost chased him away, she used to call him 'Edward', with a soft voice that sounded even more pleasant with the lights out.

Edward maintained a calm facade and lied offhand, "Not yet, I'll be there soon."

After a few seconds of silence on the other end,

"I left my household registration book in Isaac Turner's car, and since he won't be in Capital City for these few days, it might take some time before I can go get a new certificate."

Edward raised an eyebrow,

"If you don't want to divorce, just say it, there's no shame in that."

The call ended with a dial tone.

Austin almost laughed out loud on the side. How shameless can you get?

After Clara clarified things with him, her mood slightly relaxed.

Perhaps it was due to yesterday's cold, but she felt a dull pain in her lower abdomen and a bit dizzy.

She hailed a taxi at the roadside and went to the hospital to register with gynecology.

The gynecology and obstetrics department was on the same floor; most of those coming for pregnancy check-ups were couples, with the men waiting in the hall and the women going in for examinations.

Watching each pregnant woman being carefully supported and protected, she envied them for a long while.

After a series of checks, Clara took her ultrasound report to the doctor,

"Your baby is implanted very low, you should rest in bed and avoid physical activity. Make sure to come in for regular prenatal checkups."

Clara's face paled, "Doctor, what consequences will a low implantation bring?"

The doctor reassured her,

"It could easily lead to a miscarriage. Don't worry, just do as I say. Avoid fatigue and stimulation, it will rise later on; just be careful during this time. Also, you have a slight anemia; for now, you should focus on dietary nourishment."

The doctor reiterated a bunch of precautions, such as not having intercourse during the first few months, avoiding emotional excitement, eating more seasonal vegetables and fruits, and so on.

She left the examination room with a pile of test reports and sat in the waiting area to organize them.

A friendly nearby sister saw her alone and helped her sort through them.

"Sister, are you here for a pregnancy check by yourself? Where's your husband?"

Clara's heart clenched suddenly,

"My husband is busy with work."

The sister looked at her sympathetically and advised,

"Sister, a man should be used when needed. If you can't rely on him when you're pregnant, what's the use of him? He must come with you for the pregnancy check. Otherwise, he won't understand the hardships of carrying a child for nine months.

If he can't see how much you suffer from vomiting, when the baby's born, he'll say, 'Isn't it just childbirth? Every woman does it, why are you being so dramatic?'"

As she said this, the sister suddenly tapped Clara, "Hey, look. That's the kind of man to find, handsome and so caring for his wife. Look at how cautious he is, he must be some kind of wife-adoring demon."

Clara lifted her head and followed the sister's pointed direction, and when she saw the person across, the calm she had just managed to gather collapsed like a house of cards, her heart wrenching with pain.
