Chapter 9: Yamcha Gets Jumped
"You want to fight against Tien?"
Yamcha suddenly interrupted the conversation.
"Sorry to say, King Chappa, but you are not strong enough to fight either of us."
"Even if your entire school attacks all at once, you cannot win against us."
Yamcha warned King Chappa. This guy was overconfident about his strength and was underestimating them.
King Chappa on the other hand, observed Yamcha with a frown. He hadn't spoken with Yamcha yet, but this man was calling them weak.
He was saying that his school's combined strength can't even defeat one of them; this was straight-up insulting.
Clasping his hands together, King Chappa turned towards Yamcha and asked.
"Can I have your name?"
Yamcha smirked and pointed at himself.
"My name's Yamcha. I am Master Roshi's student and Tien's friend."
King Chappa nodded as he remembered Yamcha from the tournament.
"I remember you, Master Tien broke your leg during the 22nd tournament."
Yamcha's face froze; he coughed and waved his hand quickly.
"Do you remember that? Yes, I am weaker than Tien but I am still stronger than you."
"Just like him, I can also defeat you guys. Your group doesn't stand a chance against us."
King Chappa frowned a bit harder; his students were also starting to get upset. This guy was just insulting their martial arts school.
Taking a deep breath, King Chappa decided to deal with Yamcha and his rude words first, and after that, he will fight against Tien.
Getting into his fighting stance, King Chappa tensed up and closely observed Yamcha's posture; he then said seriously.
"Yamcha, if you believe I am weak, please show me what I am missing."
Even after King Chappa took his stance, Yamcha casually shook his head.
"Fighting you alone won't pose a challenge; you cannot defeat me."
"If you guys want to cause me a little trouble, attack me together."
King Chappa clenched his fist; his students were also angry by now. They got up and surrounded Yamcha.
But King Chappa didn't lose his cool; he maintained his master's demeanor and solemnly asked Tien.
"Is it okay if we fight against your partner first, before I fight against you one on one?"
Tien nodded with a happy look on his face; he was wondering how to prove his strength to King Chappa; this seemed like a good way.
Yamcha was weaker than him; if Chappa and his students can't even defeat him, they will consider Tien invincible.
King Chappa's group wasn't actually weak; they had two strong fighters hiding within them, but Yamcha should be able to handle this.
"Please go ahead; I do not mind."
Tien agreed to let Yamcha go first. King Chappa nodded and directly told Yamcha.
"You wanted us to attack together, then that's what you will get."
"Everyone listen to my command: attack using our trained formation!"
The whole martial arts temple moved at once, and Yamcha looked surprised; the students attacked together in a trained formation.
It was as if every student had trained to fight against one person as a group. Yamcha's feelings weren't wrong; this was indeed the case.
After King Piccolo slaughtered Chappa's temple a few years ago, they had trained to fight as a group against super strong men.
King Chappa considered Yamcha's status as a student of the legendary Master Roshi, and decided to go all out against him.
The entire Temple worked together as a team, and attacked Yamcha from every angle. Left, right, up, and down, attacks just kept coming towards him.
"Too slow."
But Yamcha wasn't concerned; he grinned and smoothly dodged every attack. Their combined strength couldn't even touch him.
Despite their teamwork, they were martial artists without Ki; when facing against a warrior like Yamcha, few could put up a decent fight.
Yamcha beat every single fighter one by one; his attacks always took someone out, people got knocked unconscious and were piling around the area.
Chappa's students kept passing out and Chappa was sweating buckets. Forget about their special teamwork, even he couldn't fight Yamcha head-on like this.
If this continues he wouldn't be able to fight against Tien. As he will already lose against Yamcha only, and will have to leave his country behind.
"Give up man, you can't win; just accept defeat and join Tien's Kingdom."
Yamcha advised King Chappa. His sharp but true words made King Chappa's group breathless and hopeless.
After Yamcha's display of strength, everyone felt desperate. Everyone except one man, who instead had a fire lit under his eyes.
The man stopped following team strategy and crouched down; his malnourished muscles bulged as his eyes sharpened.
Tien sensed a sudden spike in Ki and looked towards the man. This was the guy he had sensed before; who was close to Chappa's strength.
He had suddenly decided to go all out when Yamcha wasn't paying attention. Before Tien could warn him, the man attacked Yamcha.
"King Chappa is our beloved ruler; you cannot take him away from us!"
A strong fist struck Yamcha in the kidneys. Caught off guard, Yamcha's eyes bulged and he staggered.
Before he could catch his breath, King Chappa attacked Yamcha, and the man followed closely after him.
Cursing himself for ignoring this man, Yamcha held his sides and blocked the duo's attacks with one hand.
"Huff, good shot. I didn't see it coming."
Yamcha panted as he got used to the pain.
"I remember your face. You once fought against Master Roshi in the 21st world martial arts tournament."
"Your name is Nam; you wanted to win the championship money to buy water for your barren village."
"So your village is under King Chappa's rule. I should have known; you guys dress the exact same way."
Yamcha panted while blocking the duo's attacks. Nam kept fighting seriously and explained his actions.
"I am sorry for attacking you suddenly."
He apologized sincerely.
"But King Chappa has made our village's life better."
"If he leaves, we will once again struggle with drought and poverty."
"I cannot let you take away our king; I must defeat you."
Nam's attacks were full of desperation and effort; King Chappa was also moved by Nam's determination and fought back harder.
What had started as a friendly match at one point had somehow become a war for a village's survival. This made Tien dumbstruck.
Flickering in between the ongoing fight, Tien grew six arms and stopped Nam's, Chappa's, and Yamcha's attacks at the same time.
His intrusion and display of strength startled everyone; Tien's calmness also snapped Chappa and Nam out of their hyperfocused state.
The trio now focused on Tien; he had come forward and stopped their fight. They wanted to know why a master like him would interrupt their a fight.
