Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Taro Narrows His Eyes...
The five individuals present all turned their attention to Taro.
Thanks to the wish he had made on Namek years ago, Taro's body underwent a profound transformation. Not only had he broken free from the limitations of the Elixir of Immortality, but he had also regained his youth. His physique became more refined, his height increased, and his muscles and bones were completely reconstructed, resulting in a perfectly balanced body.
Carrying the spherical spacecraft in one hand and accompanied by the phoenix perched on his shoulder, Taro approached the group.
"Taro?..." The old witch next to Fortuneteller Baba raised her drooping eyelids slightly, her hoarse voice quiet. "Baba, is this the brother you mentioned?"
It had been Baba's persistent request back then that compelled the old witch to venture into the underworld to retrieve the Elixir of Immortality.
Baba, now observing Taro carefully, seemed hesitant.
His appearance had changed too much. Whether it was his stature or aura, Taro now seemed vastly different. Even those familiar with him would struggle to recognize him. Given how infrequently Baba had met him over the years, her doubt was understandable.
"What's the matter? Don't recognize me, Sister?" Taro smiled as he stopped before the group.
"Are you really Taro?" Baba floated over on her crystal ball, circling him once before stopping in front, a perplexed expression on her face. "But how did you become so young? When I last saw you in the underworld, you didn't look anything like this."
Her eyes then flicked to the phoenix on Taro's shoulder. Despite being curled into a compact shape, the fiery bird was unmistakable. The phoenix seemed to recognize Baba, lightly spreading its wings and letting out a soft chirp, almost as if greeting her. This only deepened Baba's confusion.
"Indeed, I'd like to know as well," said the Earth's Kami, standing nearby. He frowned as he scrutinized Taro. "You spent thirty years training with King Kai. What happened? And how did you end up like this?"
The former Kami, Garga, also turned his attention to Taro. Baba's earlier words brought back memories of the two times he had encountered Taro—once in the Hell Tavern and later when Taro came to retrieve the seven birds. Thirty years had passed since, and now Baba's brother seemed entirely transformed.
Wait a moment… Wasn't this person the disciple of Mutaito, the one who saved Earth?
A thought struck Garga, and he discreetly examined Taro's energy level.
"Not overwhelmingly strong, but... definitely much higher than the last time I saw him."
Garga, who had witnessed countless powerful beings in the afterlife, made this assessment.
If he had known Frieza's method of measuring power levels, he would have realized that Taro's energy level was currently around 400. This, however, was a result of Taro's habit of suppressing his ki—a practice that allowed him to fine-tune his control over it and served as part of his daily training to regain mastery of the Muken.
"Well, it's still impressive. After all, he's a martial artist from Earth... And he has already surpassed Mutaito, which is quite remarkable! When he dies and enters the afterlife, he may even be able to train on King Kai's planet. I wonder if he can reach the level of Mitsurugi?'"
Garga mused silently, though of course, the idea of Taro matching Mitsurugi power was just a passing thought.
Back when Garga had stayed on Earth as Kami, he had seen countless martial artists with extraordinary talent, but even so, their accomplishments were always limited. When compared to the ancient spirits training in the vast, universe-scale afterlife, the gap was immense. Mitsurugi had come to Heaven to train a thousand years ago, and the young man before him would find it incredibly difficult to catch up.
If that weren't the case, Earth's recent disaster would have never required Garga to humble himself and ask Mitsurugi to intervene.
"The last thirty years... It's a long story. And I didn't just stay with King Kai," Taro responded, unaware of the fleeting thoughts passing through Garga's mind in the brief moment. Hearing Kami's question, Taro shook his head and said, "Kami, do you know? I learned something from King Kai... You're not originally from Earth. Your homeland is a planet far, far away in the universe called Namek. There, I met the elder of your kind, and it was this elder who helped me overcome the limitations the Elixir of Immortality had on my body..."
"I'm not from Earth? My homeland? A distant planet in the universe? Namek? The elder?" Kami was stunned by the revelation, his mind briefly blanking as memories of his childhood on the planet Earth's Plateau resurfaced—his lonely, helpless youth. "So, I'm an alien?"
The former Kami, Garga, glanced at Kami and sighed, "The reason I was reluctant to let you succeed me, aside from the darkness in your heart, was because I had these doubts... You're a bit different."
Kami forced a wry smile and muttered, "No wonder... My appearance has always been different from others..."
"That place... They were able to help you solve the side effects of the Elixir of Immortality?" Baba's master rasped, her dark, mysterious eyes fixed on Taro, seemingly studying him.
Taro didn't pay much attention, seemingly unaware of Baba's master's gaze. "The Namekians are a creative and capable race. Even Kami himself has some unique abilities, doesn't he?"
With his now profound mental training, Taro could sense that King Kai's thoughts weren't lingering here. Perhaps it was because he didn't have the authority to freely observe Heaven.
Taro continued. "I also saw the Dragon Balls there. With the help of the Elder, I summoned the Dragon and further enhanced my body..." He smiled faintly. "That's how I was able to continue progressing."
"No wonder." Former Earth Kami Garga thought to himself.
"Namek... the Dragon Balls..." Kami furrowed his brow, momentarily perplexed, unable to understand why Taro hadn't used the Dragon Balls on Earth to solve the Elixir of Immortality issue.
"About that..." A muscular figure, the ancient Earth martial artist Mitsurugi, finally spoke up. "Can we set aside the matters of this young man and your heritage, Kami? Isn't Earth facing a crisis right now? It would be better to deal with the demon issue first, then catch up later!"
Taro suddenly turned to him, frowning. "Crisis? Demons?" His gaze shifted, and instantly, he recalled his encounter with the Demon Realm on Earth over ninety years ago.
Using a technique to sense his opponent's energy, Taro immediately gauged Mitsurugi's true power.
"Forty-seven thousand?"
Taro didn't care much, briefly scanning Kami, former Kami, Baba, and the others. He asked in a deep voice, "What's going on here?" Then, he looked toward Mitsurugi. "What's happening on Earth?"
Kami sighed heavily. "It's a group of demons from the Demon Realm!" His mind flashed with the terrifying aura of the two demon leaders. He spoke with lingering fear. "There are hundreds of powerful demons, and for some unknown reason, they've appeared on Earth... and they seem to be looking for someone."
Shaking his head, he recalled the scene where the demons had been searching for someone with a portrait. However, at that time, the image they had was of Taro as an elderly man with white hair. The portrait was drawn from the memory of the Red Demon Queen, so it didn't identify Taro right away. Only Piccolo, who hated the young Taro deeply, was able to recognize him.
Now, though, Taro had regained his youth, but his appearance was still different from the past. After all, ninety years had passed. Even with his rejuvenation, he couldn't fully return to his former appearance. His youth was the result of enhanced bodily functions and a surge in vitality, not the reversal of time.
"They're too strong, over four hundred of them, and each one is far beyond my strength. Those two demon leaders, like demon kings, I didn't even have a chance to fight back. These demons are slaughtering humans on Earth, and as Kami, I can do nothing." He spoke with deep sorrow.
"Didn't you make the Dragon Balls that can grant any wish? Once Master Mitsurugi goes to Earth and eliminates those demons, you can use the Dragon Balls to restore Earth to its former state," Former Kami suggested, trying to comfort his successor.
Two demon kings?
Taro narrowed his eyes...
