The stronger one becomes, the more one can feel the warmth of this world. Ye Wen now deeply understood this saying. Though stepping outside the boundaries of Notting City meant his Soul Emperor-level strength wasn't particularly impressive, in this region, he was undoubtedly a dominant force.
The faction bearing the name "Tian Xing" had truly become a formidable power in the Notting City area.
Perhaps influenced by Ye Wen's breakthrough to Soul Emperor, Ah Yin had also become increasingly diligent in her cultivation. She was only two levels away from reaching Level 60 and entering her mature phase, at which point she would no longer need to fear being discovered by Title Douluo-level soul masters.
With the pressure lifted, Ye Wen finally began to enjoy his life in the world of Douluo.
Though it was a feudal era, as a quasi-noble class member, Ye Wen's life was quite comfortable.
Aside from occasionally researching spirit tools and tinkering with small inventions, Ye Wen had started to show signs of slacking off.
One day, as Ye Wen was about to visit a brothel to enjoy some decadent entertainment, he suddenly noticed an eleven- or twelve-year-old boy with light green hair lying on the ground, seemingly in great distress.
Ye Wen didn't suffer from any compulsive doctor habits, but seeing a young boy in such a state and not offering help went against his conscience.
"Little one, what's wrong?"
As he gently asked, Ye Wen adjusted the boy's body into a more comfortable position. Observing the boy's pale complexion, gaunt features, and faint dark circles under his eyes, Ye Wen's expression grew serious. The boy clearly appeared to be suffering from some form of kidney deficiency.
Ye Wen's sharp sense of smell detected a faint fishy odor emanating from the boy. This scent was common among snakes and insects—something Ye Wen would never mistake.
Suddenly, a flash of insight struck Ye Wen's mind, as if he had remembered something important.
At that moment, a tall shadow loomed behind him.
"Could you please hand over this child? I'm his father."
Hearing the weathered tone, Ye Wen glanced back to see a middle-aged man with green hair and green eyes standing behind him. His slender build gave him a somewhat delicate appearance.
"Of course, please take him."
The man silently took the boy into his arms and began channeling his soul power to suppress something within the boy.
Instantly, the boy's pain subsided significantly, his expression relaxed, and he slowly opened his eyes.
Afterward, both the boy and the man thanked Ye Wen and prepared to leave. Watching their retreating figures, Ye Wen called out impulsively,
"Mr. Dugu, if you wish to resolve the issues affecting you and your son, feel free to find me at Tian Xing Academy."
The man froze mid-step, turning back in surprise, but Ye Wen had already vanished without a trace.
This man was none other than Dugu Bo, the infamous Poison Douluo and future Continental Massacre Title Douluo.
He and his son, Dugu Xin, were traveling because Dugu Xin had recently graduated from a junior soul master academy. However, due to the effects of toxins, the boy had become despondent. Dugu Bo decided to take him on a journey to broaden his horizons and lift his spirits.
"Tian Xing Academy? Can they really solve our problems? It seems that young man is no ordinary person," Dugu Bo muttered to himself.
At this moment, Dugu Xin asked, "Father, should we go and see?"
Dugu Bo pondered for a moment, then nodded.
"Let's go and check it out. If they claim to have a solution, they likely aren't just wasting our time. Otherwise, I'll make them regret deceiving us."
As he spoke, a glint of murderous intent flashed in his narrow phoenix-like eyes.
Though only 50 years old, Dugu Bo was already a Level 75 Soul Sage. No one dared to provoke him at his level, for once afflicted by the Du family's unique Jade Phosphor Serpent venom, the victim would either die or suffer severe injuries.
Moreover, his martial soul had undergone a transformation upon reaching Soul Sage level, evolving into the superior variant of the Jade Phosphor Serpent—the Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor.
Its toxicity was even more potent, and as a result, his hair and eyes had turned green.
(A/N: This timeline is based on calculations from the original novel and manga side stories, so it's not fabricated.
- In 2645, Dugu Bo was 78 when he met Tang San [original work].
- In 2630, at 63, he broke through to become a Title Douluo [side story], and Dugu Xin died from toxin poisoning while Dugu Yan was around five or six years old.
- In 2605, at 37, he reached Level 65 Soul Emperor.
- In 2618, at 50, he is currently Level 75.
As for Dugu Bo's son, Dugu Xin, though mentioned in the original work, his specific age isn't provided. Here, I've assumed he's around twelve or thirteen and has just graduated.)
The name "Tian Xing" was well-known in the Notting City area. After a brief inquiry, Dugu Bo and his son made their way to Holy Spirit Village.
Gazing at the clean and tidy campus, as well as the mist-shrouded back mountain resembling a fairyland, Dugu Bo nodded appreciatively. Though the Dugu family's reputation in the Heavenly Battle Empire had waned, their ancestors had once been illustrious.
"Not bad, what a beautiful sight. That place appears to be a simulated cultivation environment. Who would have thought such a remote area could hide such a gem."
At this moment, Ye Wen approached and invited the father and son into the academy. In this place covered with Blue Silver Grass, no movement escaped Ah Yin's watchful eye.
In the principal's office, Ye Wen served them two cups of fragrant tea.
"It seems Mr. Dugu has some faith in me," Ye Wen said with a smile.
However, the experienced Dugu Bo did not immediately respond. Instead, he asked,
"You say you have a way to resolve the issues affecting my son and me. What is this method? If it works, we will offer a generous reward."
Ye Wen shook his head with a smile. "I don't seek a lavish reward from the two of you. Instead, I have a proposal to discuss."
Dugu Bo frowned. If the issue could be resolved with money, that would be ideal—even if he had to sell everything, Dugu Bo would find a way.
But this young man before him was clearly not so shallow.
"Speak. As long as it's not too excessive, I'll agree."
A radiant smile spread across Ye Wen's face. He hadn't expected things to go so smoothly.
In the original story, Dugu Bo played a significant role. Some called him "Old Poison" or "Old Pervert," but those who truly understood Douluo Continent knew that Dugu Bo was simply an honest man. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been sold out by Tang San and still helped count the money, even allowing his stronghold, the Ice and Fire Two-Instrument Eye, to be taken.
"Straightforward, I like that. My request isn't overly demanding. I simply ask that your son becomes my disciple, and that you, sir, accept the position of honorary dean at our academy."
Dugu Bo raised an eyebrow, surprised by Ye Wen's modest requests. An honorary deanship was merely a nominal title—he didn't care about that.
As for having his son become Ye Wen's disciple, if Ye Wen truly had a way to resolve the issues with their family's inherited martial soul, then so be it. After all, the wise learn from the capable. If Ye Wen possessed genuine talent, it would benefit both father and son.
