Chapter 231: 227. Surprise Attack
The spacious dormitory of Dorm 7 was bustling with activity.
A group of work-study students were eagerly devouring roasted meat brought by the noble students, who were previously subdued by them
Sitting at the highest point, on a table, with her legs crossed, Xiao Wu was holding a candied hawthorn, her eyes squinting into crescent moons.
She never imagined it would be so easy to become the leader of the academy.
She felt more powerful than the little kids who still hadn't stopped drinking milk.
Now, all she was waiting for was Tang San's arrival so she could give him a beating.
...
After returning to the academy and bidding farewell to Yu Xiaogang, Tang San went to the Spirit Hall branch for his spirit master advancement assessment.
By the time he was on his way back to Dorm 7, the sky had darkened.
As he walked, his expression grew more serious.
Since the conclusion of the spirit hunting expedition, he noticed he had become weaker.
His body felt fatigued, and it became harder for him to concentrate.
Initially, he thought it was due to residual spiritual toxins from the Mandala Snake.
However, he soon dismissed that theory, believing that particular poison shouldn't cause such lingering side effects.
Given his symptoms, he suspected he was dealing with a mixed toxin, though he had no idea where it came from.
Could it be that his teacher's theory about the Mandala Snake's venom was flawed?
"Haha! Xiao Wu is so powerful! We won't be bullied anymore!"
As Tang San neared Dorm 7, he noticed the dorm was brighter and more lively than usual.
Shaking off his fatigue, he forced himself to focus and walked toward the dorm. At the entrance, his gaze immediately landed on the girl sitting on the table – Xiao Wu.
She looked like a delicate, porcelain doll, fair-skinned with rosy cheeks.
Tang San was momentarily stunned.
Rubbing his eyes and shaking his head, he took another glance.
In the boys' dormitory, sure enough, there was a little girl who appeared to be about his age, looking incredibly cute.
Just as Tang San was puzzled, Wang Sheng, who had just returned after taking care of some bodily needs, walked in and bumped into Tang San at the door.
Surprised, Wang Sheng exclaimed, "Oh? Boss, you're back!"
"Mm? Wang Sheng," Tang San turned around to face him, immediately asking, "Wang Sheng, what's going on here? Who is she?"
Before Tang San could finish, Wang Sheng grinned and explained, "Boss, Sister Xiao Wu is also a work-study student this year. She just arrived yesterday."
"I see," Tang San nodded slightly, but he didn't catch Wang Sheng's peculiar phrasing.
He then asked another question, "Are boys and girls allowed to stay together in the same dorm?"
"Of course!" Wang Sheng nodded seriously, explaining, "We're all still kids, so the dorms aren't separated by gender. I've heard that the dorms are only separated when we reach the Intermediate Spirit Master Academy."
"Oh, I get it," Tang San nodded in realization.
Wang Sheng, however, glanced at Xiao Wu and then whispered to Tang San, "Boss, you're in a bit of danger."
Before Wang Sheng could finish his warning, someone inside the dorm spotted Tang San.
The student immediately ran to Xiao Wu to report his return.
In an instant, Xiao Wu, still holding her candied hawthorn, stood up.
From her elevated position, she looked down at Tang San, her pinkish-red eyes gleaming with a mix of mischief, excitement, and disdain, which quickly turned into an innocent, playful expression.
After being a pet rabbit for five years, she had learned more than just textbook knowledge.
She had also become skilled at pretending to be cute and charming.
With a swift leap, Xiao Wu landed in front of Tang San at the entrance of the dorm.
"You're Tang San?"
Surprised by her sudden approach, Tang San couldn't help but feel nervous.
After all, he had always been obsessed with hidden weapons and had never interacted with girls before.
Ignoring Wang Sheng's helpless gaze, he nodded gently, "Do you need something?"
"Hehe, nothing serious," Xiao Wu smiled sweetly, dimples forming on her rosy cheeks, making her look even more adorable. "I heard you're the boss of Dorm 7. I'm here to challenge you."
"Challenge me?" Tang San was momentarily stunned, shaking his head with a wry smile. "Let's not do that. If you want to be the boss, you can take the title."
"No way!" Xiao Wu frowned, waving her fists. "There's a rule in Dorm 7. If I don't defeat you, I won't truly be the boss. What? Are you afraid of losing?"
Hearing her provocation, Tang San couldn't help but laugh.
He wasn't afraid of losing, but he didn't want to bully anyone.
Even in his weakened state, how could this young girl be a match for him?
"Boss, this is the dorm's tradition. You should take up the challenge," Wang Sheng reminded from the side.
Even if Xiao Wu hadn't brought it up, Wang Sheng would have suggested it.
After all, this was the tradition of Dorm 7, and after five years in the dorm, he felt it was his duty to uphold it.
Every boss had to face a challenge from newcomers!
"Uh... I really don't think that's necessary," Tang San muttered. He didn't expect that, after being Dorm 7's boss for only a few days, he would already face such a dilemma.
He didn't want to bully a girl.
"Why are you so hesitant?" Xiao Wu frowned, clearly eager to teach him a lesson.
If Tang San didn't agree, how could she justifiably give him a beating? Should she attack him directly? That would make her seem unreasonable.
"Boss," Wang Sheng nudged Tang San, reminding him of the dorm's rules.
Under the combined pressure of Xiao Wu's challenge and Wang Sheng's encouragement, Tang San sighed and stepped forward. "Fine, we'll have a little sparring match, then."
Tang San consoled himself by thinking of it as just a friendly sparring session, not an opportunity to bully a girl.
As long as he didn't hurt her, he would maintain his dignity and honor the dorm's tradition.
"What's your name, and what's your spirit?" he asked.
"Great!" Xiao Wu's eyes sparkled.
Smiling brightly, she replied, "I'm Xiao Wu, and my spirit is a cute little rabbit."
"And you?" she asked, her eyes glinting with excitement.
The sight of her innocent face dispelled much of Tang San's earlier frustration. Smiling, he replied, "My spirit is the food of your spirit, Blue Silver Grass."
"Ugh! I don't want that!" Xiao Wu made a face, clearly displeased.
Before Tang San could react, Xiao Wu bent her right leg and swiftly kicked upward, aiming for Tang San's chin.
Though the kick didn't appear powerful, it was extremely fast, catching both Tang San and Wang Sheng off guard.
Wang Sheng immediately retreated.
Tang San never expected such a sweet-looking girl to have such skill and, even more surprisingly, no sense of honor in combat.
Just as he raised his arm to block, the wound on his right arm, from the Mandala Snake's bite, suddenly flared with pain.
"Not good!" Tang San thought, eyes wide.
In that brief moment of hesitation, Xiao Wu's kick connected with his chin.
"Ugh!" Tang San grunted as his teeth snapped shut, biting his tongue and drawing blood.
The force of the blow sent him flying backward.
