Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 29: Chapter 28: The Lunch Break Ends

After the baseball game victory, the Jaian baseball team continued their practice, their spirits lifted by the win. Jaian, in particular, was in such a good mood that he didn't follow through with his usual plans to punish Nobita. Instead, he playfully urged Nobita to join the practice.

"Hey, Nobita, don't just stand there! I don't expect you to be a great hitter, but at least try to catch the ball! If you can't, you can still pick it up for the Jaian baseball team!" Jaian smirked, standing beside Suneo, both of them enjoying the sight of Nobita being forced into action.

Nobita, despite not being particularly fond of baseball, didn't want to be left out. He understood the unspoken peer pressure. Being alone wasn't much fun, especially when it seemed like everyone was having a good time.

"Yeah... I got it," Nobita mumbled, his gaze downcast. He was relieved, though, that he wasn't about to get beaten up today. He had managed to dodge Jaian's usual wrath after helping them win the game.

Dekisugi, on the other hand, after contributing to the victory, walked back to the lawn where Shizuka was sitting. He had brought his unfinished drawings with him and, with a focused expression, started sketching again. The peaceful moment offered him the perfect opportunity to continue his work. Though he didn't have much disposable income, he liked to occasionally treat himself to some snacks. But that wouldn't be possible without money.

Shizuka watched him, intrigued. "Dekisugi, are you really going to draw manga here? Won't it disturb you?" She glanced around, worried about the distractions.

Dekisugi smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, Shizuka. The manga's already in my head, so I don't need absolute silence. I can chat and draw at the same time," he explained.

As he spoke, Jaian and Suneo, standing nearby, looked over at Nobita, grinning mischievously. "Hey, Nobita! Don't just stand there! If you're not going to catch the ball, at least pick it up!" Jaian barked impatiently. His earlier good mood was beginning to fade as he watched Nobita struggle to keep up.

At the same time, back at Nobita's house, Doraemon was lounging around, flipping through comics. His day had been uneventful—just the usual boredom of waiting for Nobita to get into trouble. Doraemon often found himself checking in on Nobita to see if anything interesting happened.

"Ugh, it's so boring," Doraemon muttered, scratching his head. "I wonder how Nobita is doing today... probably nothing new. He hasn't made much progress at all." He sighed, his chubby hand reaching into his four-dimensional pocket as if searching for something to occupy his time.

Suddenly, Doraemon's eyes lit up. "Aha! I found it!" He pulled out a device that resembled a small TV, a "Satellite Monitoring TV"—a tool Doraemon had used in the past for monitoring situations from afar.

With a grin, Doraemon activated it, and the screen flickered to life, showing the school playground. Nobita, head down, was being scolded by Jaian. Doraemon watched the scene with a mix of amusement and concern. "Typical Nobita," he muttered. "But, hey, it's surprising—Jaian didn't beat him up today. That's rare."

Doraemon shook his head, half laughing, half frustrated. "Well, Nobita hasn't gotten into any trouble today, so I won't help him. He'll probably ask for another prop to get revenge, but I'm not going to assist him this time." Doraemon crossed his arms, determined. "He hasn't learned anything yet. Always relying on my gadgets for quick fixes... I think he needs to figure it out on his own for a while."

With that, Doraemon decided to take a break from helping Nobita and, instead, was more interested in the latest offers at the 22nd Century Store. He pulled open his drawer and entered the time tunnel, hoping to score some discounted items.

Meanwhile, on the playground, Jaian and Suneo were still giving Nobita a hard time. Although they considered him a friend, they didn't hesitate to taunt him whenever the chance arose.

"Come on, Nobita! What's with you today? Not even trying? So useless!" Jaian laughed, crossing his arms, his eyes still smoldering with playful annoyance.

Nobita, feeling the weight of their words, lowered his gaze even further. He had planned to get some revenge with Doraemon's help after school, but now it seemed that would be impossible. His usual tricks with gadgets wouldn't work today.

Shizuka, walking behind with Dekisugi, noticed how down Nobita seemed. Sighing, she finally spoke up, defending him. "Alright, Jaian, Suneo, you don't need to be so hard on Nobita. He's really trying."

Jaian and Suneo exchanged glances before shrugging and grinning. "Okay, okay, Shizuka, we're just messing with him. But he might actually work harder now," Jaian teased.

Nobita said nothing, simply trudging along, his thoughts focused on the evening. He had plans to borrow some of Doraemon's props to teach Jaian a lesson—but, as always, he knew it would be a challenge to get the right tools.

Dekisugi, overhearing the conversation, smiled to himself. He glanced at Shizuka as they walked behind Jaian, Suneo, and Nobita. "The relationship between you three is really something, huh?" he commented, his tone amused.

Shizuka smiled softly. "Yeah, it's strange. They fight a lot, but they're still friends."

Dekisugi nodded, his smile fading as he returned to his thoughts. Despite their playful bickering, there was a bond between them that he couldn't deny. He just hoped that, someday, Nobita would learn to stand up for himself without relying on shortcuts.

As the lunch break drew to a close, the students began heading back to their classrooms, their chatter filling the air. Dekisugi and Shizuka walked side by side, watching as Jaian and Suneo continued their friendly teasing of Nobita, who trudged along behind them, lost in his thoughts.

It seemed like the end of another typical school day—filled with ups and downs, laughter and frustration—but, in the end, they were all still part of the same world, together.
