Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 27: Chapter 26: Baseball Game During The Lunch Break {part 2}

Jaian's angry roar called Nobita from his daydreams back into the present, and he quickly straightened up, folding his legs together and standing at attention. "Here!" he shouted, trying to appear more composed than he felt. Jaian nodded in satisfaction, turning to Shizuka and Dekisugi, who were sitting on the lawn, eating their lunch.

"Shizuka, Dekisugi, just watch how we win this baseball game in the next class!" Jaian said with a grin, clearly proud of his team's abilities.

Shizuka smiled and nodded in response, looking forward to watching the game. Dekisugi, however, was watching the field with great interest. It was his first time seeing a baseball game played live. He had heard of baseball, but had never participated in it before, and now he was curious about how it worked.

"Dekisugi, what position are you going to play later?" Shizuka asked, pausing her lunch to look at Dekisugi. She had never seen him play baseball before and was curious about how well he might do.

"I'll be a hitter, it looks relatively simple," Dekisugi replied after a moment of thought. He wasn't too familiar with the other positions, but he figured hitting seemed easy enough – just swing at the ball when it's pitched.

"Batter? It looks easy, but it's actually pretty hard. And if you get struck out, Jaian will be really mad," Shizuka warned. She had played baseball with Jaian enough to know how serious he was about winning, especially when it came to the team's performance. If Dekisugi got struck out, Jaian would surely be angry.

Dekisugi just smiled confidently. "Don't worry, Shizuka. I may not be great at everything, but I've got this batter thing down. I'm not worried."

"Alright, I'm full," Dekisugi said after finishing his lunch, standing up and stretching. Just as he did, Nobita stepped up to bat. He was looking unusually serious as he moved into position, preparing himself for his turn.

The first pitch came in and... "Strike! Strike out!" Nobita missed it completely, and Jaian was watching from the side, clearly furious. "Stinky Nobita! You've been struck out again! You're really making me mad!"

Jaian's shout was loud enough for everyone to hear, but Nobita just stood there, looking as though he might burst into tears. He wasn't upset about being scolded; he was scared of Jaian's anger. The fear of getting beaten up was too much for him.

Dekisugi, seeing Nobita's distress, decided to step in before things escalated further. He ran toward Jaian with a smile. "Hey! Jaian, let me have a turn at bat. How about you let me try? I promise, you won't be disappointed!"

Jaian, still seething from Nobita's strikeout, turned to see Dekisugi running toward the field. He looked surprised. "What? Dekisugi, you want to play baseball? Can you even do it? You're going to take on the batter position on your first try?" Jaian couldn't believe it. Dekisugi had never shown any interest in extracurricular activities before, so this came as a surprise.

"I can handle it. If I mess up and get struck out, you can do whatever you want," Dekisugi said confidently, ready to take on the challenge. He wasn't one to back down, even if he hadn't played baseball before.

Jaian and Suneo both laughed. Jaian's laugh sounded more like a sinister chuckle, as if he was already imagining how he would "fix" Dekisugi if he messed up. "Alright, if you say so. But don't say I didn't warn you. You mess up, and I'll make sure you regret it."

Dekisugi wasn't worried in the slightest. He had faced challenges before, and this was just another one. He took the bat from Nobita, who was still sulking about his strikeout, and positioned himself in the batter's box. With a swift swing of the bat, Dekisugi was ready.

The pitch came in, and Dekisugi, with sharp focus, swung at the ball. The crack of the bat meeting the ball echoed across the field, and Dekisugi's eyes followed the trajectory of the ball. It soared through the air, farther than Jaian had expected, heading straight for the outfield.

Jaian stood there in shock. "What the... how did you...?" He was stunned. Dekisugi had hit it cleanly, and it was headed for a solid distance.

Shizuka gasped, her hand flying to her cheek. "Wow, that was amazing, Dekisugi!"

Nobita blinked in disbelief. "Dekisugi, you actually hit it!"

Dekisugi grinned, watching the ball fly through the air. "Like I said, I'm not bad at this."

Catcher, still dumbfounded, quickly ran to the outfield to retrieve the ball. "This is just luck," he muttered under his breath. "You won't get another hit like that."

Shizuka smiled back at Dekisugi, her face turning slightly red. "I knew you could do it."

The opposite team pitcher finally returned, looking frustrated but determined. "Alright, let's see if you can do it again, Dekisugi. You may have gotten lucky the first time, but I won't let you hit it again."

Dekisugi just nodded, his confidence unwavering. "We'll see. This is just the beginning."

And with that, the game continued, but the dynamic had shifted. The pitcher was no longer as confident in his dominance, and Dekisugi had proven himself a worthy opponent. What had begun as a simple lunch break baseball game had turned into a more intense competition, and the rest of the game promised to be a thrilling match.
