Chapter 38: Upper Moon 5 Vs Flower Hashira
Chikafusa, gasping for air, stands again and steadies himself for another attack.
Before he could attack, Suiryu disappeared from his sight.
"Huh?! Where—"
Suiryu appears behind him in no time, his eyes glowing as he chops at his neck.
"SUN BREATHING, FIFTH FORM: SETTING SUN TRANSFORMATION"
Chikafusa backflips, slices his arm in a swift motion.
Suiryu kicks his waist, sending him flying away into trees.
"You're a wasted potential. Talented yet so weak," Suiryu says, his tone serious.
"I'm gonna put an end to this battle now!"
Suiryu lunges towards him. Before he could land his punch, he heard footsteps coming from the bushes.
The footsteps echoed from everywhere in the eerie silence of the night. Suiryu turns around but no one is there.
Then—without warning.
A flash of silver.
Suiryu's hand falls to the ground.
Suiryu barely registers the movement before his hand is severed clean off.
Pain shoots through him, but his attention is drawn elsewhere—to the ethereal figure now holding Chikafusa in her arms.
A girl.
Her long, dark hair cascading down her thighs, flowing with a steady rhythm of air. Her porcelain skin glows under the moonlight, and her face is undeniably flawless. She has worn a stylish, purple haori over a black dress with floral mesh sleeves.
A delicate moon-star hair clip gleams on the left side of her head as she absentmindedly adjusts it, smoothing her midnight strands.
Suiryu is taken aback by her appearance, he thinks. "Is she a Hashira? She's extraordinarily beautiful, probably the second most beautiful woman I've ever seen."
————
Ai Hanako
Flower Hashira
Age - 18
————
Ai brushes a stray lock of hair behind her ear, her crimson lips curling into a confident smile.
"No worries! I'm back now."
She gently sets Chikafusa down, steadying him on his feet before her gaze sweeps over the battlefield. Blood stains the earth—Tsunenari, Kaito, and Nameless lie motionless, their bodies battered and broken. Her expression darkens.
Suiryu watches in silence, intrigued but unmoving.
Ai's amethyst eyes narrow as she turns to him. "So, you're the one who did all this, aren't you?"
A sleek, albino crow perches gracefully on her shoulder—a striking contrast to the usual black-feathered messengers of the Demon Slayer Corps. Ai strokes its wing before commanding, "Chizuru, inform the Demon Slayer Headquarters. We need Fuji-san and the other Hashira. Right now."
Suiryu tilts his head as the white crow soars into the night, its wings cutting through the darkness.
Ai smirks, crossing her arms. "They will arrive in thirty minutes. You'll be dead, mister."
Suiryu laughs, his voice filled with mockery. "Why do such a beautiful thing like you want to risk your own life? You'll be regretting it."
"Hey, giant bug. Are you done talking trash? Show me what you've got!"
Suiryu lunges at them, his punch a mere inches away from her face.
But he stopped, his fist trembled and his hand started bleeding. His hand melts, falls to the ground as he takes his steps back.
"Aaahh… What did you do?!" He says in agony.
Ai smirks, spinning her sword smoothly in her fingers as she points at him. "I already knew you'd underestimate me. I've used wisteria poison in my sword. This poison was even capable of bringing the upper moon 2 to his knees around four decades ago.
In conclusion, if you underestimate me anymore, you'll be dead."
She steadies herself, her right hand still covered in bandages since she fought 6 years ago.
Suiryu gritted his teeth, regenerates his hand within seconds.
Ai's gaze softens as she turns to Chikafusa. "Yamamoto-kun… What happened to Yoshimitsu-san's brother?"
Chikafusa lowers his head, his voice barely a whisper. "Koji-kun… he's dead…"
Ai's breath catches. Her fingers tighten around her sword, but she quickly composes herself. A gentle sorrow lingers in her voice. "I understand that pain… losing someone you love the most."
For a moment, she closes her eyes. A memory flashes—Ren Hajime, standing before her, his back turned as he walked away from the Corps. That familiar ache returns. She opens her eyes again, shimmering with emotions.
She exhales, her voice quieter now. "This path… it never lets us keep the ones we cherish." Her eyes drift toward Tsunenari's fallen form. "For Yoshimitsu-san, his brother was everything—the reason he kept going. Now that he's gone… how will he go on?"
She looks at Chikafusa once more, her gaze serious. "Attack only when needed, got it? Don't push yourself too much."
Suiryu instantly appears beside her, his kick a few centimetres away from her waist.
She jumps, slamming her high heel into his chest and backflips above him.
"FLOWER BREATHING, SIXTH FORM: WHIRLING PEACH"
As she was about to slice his neck, Suiryu sidestepped but got his throat sliced.
She lands gracefully, blood colouring her katana crimson.
Within a second, she teleports behind him, cutting through his foot's tendons smoothly.
Suiryu tries to kick her, but he can't move his feet. "W-What?! I can't move…"
Suiryu swings a desperate punch, but she dodges and grabs his forearm, swirling around in the air and plucks his eye with the top piece of her heel.
She smiles wickedly, her eyes narrow slightly. "With this shitty strategy, you can't win against us."
She slices through his thighs to his chest and leaps back.
She places her hand on her mouth, her voice filled with mockery. "Ara… I was expecting better from you. But you're a disgrace!"
His throat and wounds swollen from the poison, he vomits blood uncontrollably. "Blarrgghhhh…."
"SUN BREATHING, TWELFTH FORM: FLAME DANCE"
Chikafusa lunges at him with stunning speed, slicing off his half body.
"WHAT—?!"
Suiryu's upper body detaches from the rest of him, his mind reeling, unable to comprehend how the tides turned so quickly. He crashes onto the blood-soaked ground, eyes wide with disbelief.
Ai steps forward, pressing the heel of her shoe onto his ruined face. She gazes down at him, utterly composed, her voice laced with satisfaction.
"This is where you belong."
Chikafusa wastes no time, leaps at him and about to slice his head off.
">———BLOOD DEMON TECHNIQUE: EXPLOSIVE FIREBLAST———<"
A massive explosion erupts. Ai instinctively leaps back, barely evading the worst of it, but the shockwave still hurls her and Chikafusa through the air.
As the smoke clears, Ai lands on her feet, barely shaken. Chikafusa, however, crashes hard, his arm and forehead dripping blood.
"FLOWER BREATHING, FIRST FO—"
Crack
The tip of her heel snaps. Her balance wavers and she falls backward.
"Ahh-!"
Suiryu seeks the opportunity and instantly appears in front of her before she could fall to the ground.
Her eyes widened in shock, unable to move due to the imbalance of her body.
">———BLOOD DEMON TECHNIQUE: BLUEFIRE FIST———<"
His fist ignites with searing blue flames, driving forward with such devastating force that the ground quakes. The impact detonates, shattering trees, ripping through the earth, and enveloping the battlefield in a blinding storm of dust and debris.
"HANAKO-SAN!!!" Chikafusa screams, his voice echoing through the cloud of dust.
Some moments later, the smoke clears, revealing a giant crater on the mountain. Ai Hanako stopped moving, her eyes half-closed as she lost consciousness. Blood pools down beneath her.
"HWAHHHAAAHHAAAHHHAAA!!! AAAAHHHAAHHHAAHHHAAAH!!!" Suiryu laughs madly.
"No matter how much women try, they will always be beneath men," he says.
Lord Akaza always hated me for my disrespect towards women. And for my biggest crimes.
But in the end…
I never cared…
————————————————————————
In the dead of night, a shadow slipped through the unlocked window of a small apartment. Suiryu, only twenty at the time, moved like a phantom through the darkness, his hands greedily snatching ornaments and valuables.
The soft click of a door unlocking froze him mid-step.
A woman entered, her face illuminated by the dim moonlight. Her eyes widened in terror.
Before she could scream, Suiryu lunged.
His hand clamped over her mouth, his voice desperate yet deceptive.
"Don't scream. Don't call the Corps. I'll leave everything, I swear."
She struggled violently, her breath coming in panicked gasps.
His grip tightened.
As soon as he let go, she snatched a flower pot and hurled it at him. The ceramic shattered against his back. Pain flared up his spine.
His face twisted. His breathing turned ragged.
"You shouldn't have done that."
Like a rabid beast, he lunged again, forcing her down. His hand muffled her screams as he tore at her clothes with brutal force.
"You're gonna regret it!"
And then he did what he shouldn't do…
When it was over, he stood over her lifeless, broken body, his chest rising and falling with exhilaration. He wiped his hands on her torn dress.
I NEVER REGRETTED IT!
Like I hadn't committed a crime at all.
Even when Lord Jigen turned me into a demon, he made me believe that I hadn't done anything wrong.
The next r@pe attempt I had done was when I saw Lady Eliza, 29 years ago.
Her divine and otherworldly beauty enveloped my senses, and I couldn't control myself. I underestimated her like an ordinary woman.
I lunged at her, pinning her on the ground.
She chuckles, "Already so eager, aren't you? My insatiable man."
Before I could even process her words… before I could move… my entire body vanished.
I couldn't feel my limbs. My vision blurred. The next thing I knew…
My severed head rested in her delicate palm.
"You deserve to die!" she snarled, her voice colder than ice.
I would have died right there, my soul obliterated. But then he appeared.
Lord Jigen.
He stood before her, calm as ever, his gaze unreadable.
"Eliza, you can't kill him right now," Jigen says in a calm voice.
"Why did you even have to recruit such a person to your army? Won't you say anything about what he was going to do with me?!"
"I just don't want him to die so early. It will ruin my future plans."
She sighs heavily, "Fine, I can't deny you. But if he repeats his mistake again, I won't listen to you anymore and kill this fool."
"I understand…" Jigen says calmly.
I was one breath away from death that day… but he saved me. Again.
————————————————————————
In the present time.
Suiryu steps over Ai's unconscious body, leaving her in a pool of blood as he leaps toward Chikafusa.
The boy barely stands-his head bleeding, his breathing ragged. His vacant eyes seem lost, as if his mind has drifted elsewhere.
"You've messed with the wrong opponent. Farewell!"
Suiryu swings his fist, the force behind it enough to shatter bones. It closes in-mere centimeters from Chikafusa's face.
But then.
Chikafusa vanishes, reappearing beside him.
SHING!
Suiryu stumbles back, his arm severed cleanly at the elbow.
"Huh?!"
For a split second, his vision lags. He didn't see the attack. He couldn't react. His eyes widened in disbelief.
"Isn't he the weakest one here?"
Then he sees it.
A crimson mark spreads across Chikafusa's forehead-the Demon Slayer Mark.
Chikafusa gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with fury. "You monster! Why did you hurt my friends? Why did you kill Koji-kun? Why did you kill people?"
His body shivers at his words, remembering what Yoriichi said to Muzan centuries ago.
"What's driving you to kill innocents? What exactly do you want? Tell me!"
Suiryu takes a step back, his legs trembling.
"This aura… this power… this mark… he looks like Ren Hajime…"
